fav anime themes

what are u guys fav anime themes? mine have to be most of the openings and ending themes of bleach, naruto, gundam seed/destiny and fullmetal alchemist. what about u guys?

I thought this was going to be a really interesting question about the actual themes present within certain shows and what's our preferences, but... its an OP thread. Planetes' and Hikaru no Go's second opening are standouts for me.

I'll admit to being a big fan of the catchy opening themes in anime. Personal highlights for me (off the top of my head) would have to be:

Gundam SEED Destiny opening 2

Gundam 00 series 1, opening 2

Eureka Seven, opening 4

Wolf's Rain

Ghost In The Shell, Stand Alone Complex, 2md GIG

RahXephon

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040

and

Gundam: The 08th Team.

My favourite themes are the line between reality, fantasy and insanity (i.e. Satoshi Kon) and battle of the minds and what is morally "right" (i.e. Death Note/ Code Geass)

On topic, since I class themes as different from OPs I'd go for "Near's Theme" and "Mello" from the third Death Note OST, "Nightmare" (various but usually Knightmare related) and "O" (Zero's theme) from the first Code Geass OST and "Black Knights" (Black Knight's Theme) from the second.

The only OP's I can think of that I'd class as themes rather than songs are HT for Trigun and whatever it's called for Elfen Lied.

Similarly, the war between Good and Evil, in almost any form, makes me take notice. This, of course, doesn't mean I want things to be black and white, but a focus on the inherit grey-area that comes with it. I suppose both Death Note and Geass do apply.

More than anything else, the question(s) of 'what it means to be human', 'what makes a person a person' etc is something that I will watch almost anything on. Certain parts of Fullmetal Alchemist hit on this very well.

I second the whole fantasy, reality and insanity tropes. I also like explorations of the definition of the human soul and spirit so Satoshi Kon and Mamoru Oshii especially with their directorial sleights of hand and use of philosophy and just beautiful images.

As far as end themes go:
Disgaea, the various Outlaw Star themes and agaom Master Keaton.

I guess mine is a close tie between the Crystania and Lodoss TV opening (Crystania here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4K4gFirXAaA).

The Crystania movie also has a sweet intro if you can sit through the opening scene.

I'd say they definitely do, especially with Geass. I think it's best described by the quote ir2 where Zero asks "what do you do when there is an evil that cannot be defeated by justice, dirty your hands with evil to fight a greater evil, or fight with justice and surrender to evil, either way evil remains" =3 (Can you tell I just got r2 box 1? XP)
