I never expected it to live up the original, but when you slot Diebuster into it's chronological place in the Gainax canon between the likes of FLCL and Gurren Lagann I think it fares just fine. Gainax had to change with the times like every studio, but I think all those shows are illustrative of the fact that they managed to stay relevant and maintain their distinct identity even as they changed, which is no mean feat. It even wins this:

Watching this, I realise that Funimation did a brilliant job in reversioning the credits sequences with English text that maintain the intent of the original animation.

Normally they just stick plain white font text titles on the front.

Oho, this one slipped under my radar. Let's put that right.

I've laid into Diebuster here before, so I'm not going to put the boot in again (and all the finer details have been lost to memory). What I will say is that while I'm not overly fond of the hyper-kinetic FLCL/Gurren Lagann style, the main reason I don't like Diebuster is that it failed to elicit any emotional response from me. I can watch the final scene of Gunbuster now and have (manly, fyi) tears streaming down my face all through the credits, and my heart broke for Noriko so many times during the show, but I wasn't able to connect with any character in Diebuster and didn't really care what happened.

The final scene of Diebuster tied it into Gunbuster beautifully, though. Shame the Beez release is missing subtitles during it. Grumble.

Anyway, what I came here to say was that I have just (5 years behind the times as usual) discovered the Lucky Star OP. I don't think my life will ever be the same again.

Surprised ayase didn't use a small loophole in his "hard mode" to put the OP to this season's Fujiko Mine, one of my favorite recent OPs.

Also the ED for the second season of Kimi to Boku is lovely, and both theme tunes from Sakamichi no Apollon.

Again, yes. I'll be disappointed with myself if I didn't mention this at some point in the past. I also enjoyed trying to sing along in Portuguese.

When you go to/click the embed section on the YouTube video, The Box that says "Use old embed code" needs to be ticked for it to work.

Lately I've been listening to the Sengoku Basara opening, it's quite catchy once you get into it.

Still say the GaoGaiGar opening is quite epic though.
