UK Anime Distributor Crunchyroll/Funimation/Manga UK Discussion Thread

Pleased to see Eupho on the schedule and very surprised about Kaguya-sama. I really hope they will release seasons 1-3 as well because the AoA sets are expensive and the S1 one doesn't even have the dub (Kaguya-sama being pretty much the only anime where I care about the dub), and it would be just plain weird to release the movie alone without the three seasons leading up to it.

I'm not huge on Demon Slayer but together with Kaguya-sama it's making me cautiously optimistic about AoA licenses getting UK releases again. Fingers crossed for Vivy and LycoReco...

its been listed on the press release, I would assume it will appear when the december lineup is up with retailers. For some reason the article just says "Limited" for any LE across it.
ah my bad for not actually reading the press release! I had just assumed that the January line-up was the only new set of titles

I think with the last two slates CrunchyUK is just soft catching up with AOA stuff that was skipped over.
Hopefully they will eventually release Boochi BD here at some point.

Darling in the Franxx re-release is questionable, considering how our Blu-Ray set is still commonly available, otherwise good Jan 25 Home Video slate.

The one thing I notice during the last three slates is the lack of Isekai home video input here.

Not counting stuff like Mushoku, Tensura and Konosuba as we definitely get those, but the ones off such has Am I Actually the Strongest? and The Great Cleric.

My guess is that the recent Isekai's releases have either been poor sellers due to overpriced or the severe decline of the Isekai genre in general is now starting to effect in the west.

Normally we be getting stuff like Sweet Reincarnation and The Saints Magic is Omnipotent, but guess they don't want another set of Isekai shows that won't sell.

Was the Manga release bad?

That's a shame I was considering these steelbooks
They did their own subtitles, which is usually a bad sign and in this case they're rubbish. Iirc the Manga releases were also authored by the idiots who just used the auto chaptering at 5 minute intervals rather than properly separated between op, 1st half, 2nd half, ed, preview.

It could still be swapped over to the Aus discs which iirc are fine.

Any word on Love Live Superstar - Season 2 Blu-ray? I read that a season 3 will soon be airing. I have season 1 on Blu-ray but there's been no word of Season 2's release.

Nothing yet. The season 2 dub has not been released yet on CR. If you don't need the dub, you may want to consider the Japanese volumes with English subs. Got a used set of season 2 recently for around 7000 yen before shipping from Mandarake.

So then the US Season 1 discs in the steelbook will be using the Funimation Region A discs, instead of the Manga Region B discs the UK S1 will have? I guess if S1 was never released as AB, they were forced to use different discs for each region. I do have all three US steels pre-ordered since I'm big into anime steelbooks, even though I already own the LE digibook sets for the three seasons.

There are Funimation B discs afaik, iirc the only modification Madman made to the Aus discs was to add their logo on boot up.

Either way using the Aus discs would be a big upgrade over the UK ones for season 1.

I own the Aus Blu-rays of AoT season 1 & can confirm they are not Funimation discs, as both the Madman & Aus classification board logos are printed on the discs. It looks to me that Madman cloned the Funi discs & changed the region code to B, which then begs the question, if Madman authored their own region B discs, why didn't Manga use them?

That's what I expected, for the most part Madman usually cloned the US release, put their boot up animation at the start and put labels that complied with Aus law.

I was wondering why I hadn't received any dispatch notification for Eighty-Six and turns out it's been silently delayed by a month to October 28. (Edit: Oh, they did mention it in the schedule update, I just missed it since my attention was drawn to the newly announced releases.)

On the plus side, the back cover image on Amazon confirms that the extras will include the music videos, which is another W for it over Viz's US release.

I’ve been charged for the HMV exclusive Mobile Suit Gundam - The Witch From Mercury Steelbooks so expecting those to ship soon.
Yeah, I was charged yesterday for them. Probably won't ship until Saturday I'd reckon.

I won't get them until December though when my aunt is coming south visiting my mother.

Shipping from NI to Ireland is considered an international package by Royal Mail and as such is pretty expensive, An Post going the other way consider parcels to Northern Ireland as domestic post.
