Attack on Titan Discussion

I have been really impressed with this anime. I think that it's living up to all of the hype so far. The animation is fluid and beautiful and the music is impressive and I like the characters a lot. Episode 3's light relief was also genuinely amusing.

I was holding myself back from watching it because I expected another Sword Art Online, but after hearing the buzz around the show I decided to give the first episode a shot. I was impressed, though I echo Prof's feelings on the main character. It doesn't help that he's voiced by Yuki Kaji.

First couple of episodes of this were pretty cool, but I'm not overly convinced by the central premise. I guess I will give them time to expand on it, but how everyone isn't just dead by now is a little beyond me.

I really loved the way episode 4 ended. "I know, I'll give a nice, protagonisty inspirational spee-OH **** IT'S THE COLOSSAL TITAN!"

Don't worry though guys, I started the counterattack on the Titans:

I am getting annoyed though. My Waterstones order of volume 1 of the manga was dispatched on the 16th and hasn't arrived yet. I've emailed them and told them to send me a replacement.

Haha, same! It was all "YAY WE'RE ALL SUCH GOOD FRIENDS!! LETS GET THE TITANS WOOO" then ... BAM! XD

I like the show a lot more after four eps, although this is largely down to the introduction of some more likable characters such as the head instructor and Sasha. Eren is obviously a bit of a straight-forward lead character at this point, and Mikasa - for all that they have done with her appearance during the time interval so far - is still not well developed enough either.

On one hand it feels like the show is flying along almost off the rails with the timeline shifting so suddenly, on the other hand it really feels like they need to get to a point where we are given some more significant information about what is going on. The existence of the Titans themselves is not easy to rationalize even from the in-world perspective that we have so far, I would be most interested is skipping aggressively backwards in time as well as forwards to give us a bit more to speculate on as to their origins.

I read somewhere that Funimation are trying to acquire it.

Sounds legit. It seems to be "THE" show of the moment so I imagine all Anime license companies around the world want to get their paws on it. It's the type of show that'll appeal to non-anime fans too so it could be a pretty good seller.
Interested in seeing who picks it up here, its a very MangaUK show but Anime Ltd could get hold of it too.

FUNimation already have streaming rights, so I can see them picking it up, releasing in around 3013, then MangaUK will sub-license it from them.

Fix'd
*Points to Mirai Nikki*
I think my one was fine.

I'm putting that one down to Kadokawa, and them totally not being too busy dubbing 3.33 for a release next month ;_;
That said, Funi do seem to be taking their time getting their titles out recently - not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Two shows I've heard which are meant to be coming from them soon are Sankarea and Guilty Crown, yet nothing has been said by Funi about either.

At the end of the day I'd rather have longer delays between titles than 1080i ****. Sentai seriously need to stop licensing absolutely everything and trying to get it out ASAP as it's resulting in a serious decline in quality. At least Funi's releases tend to be decent.

Funi have been doing this for years and been put to shame by Sentai's relatively timely releases (although I agree that the recent 1080i "issue" is also unacceptable, it's not like Funi have ever been held up as paragons of quality control, and specifically when it comes to the quality of their BD transfers too), so there's no need to give them free passes on anything just because it's easier and more trendy to blame the Japanese. Funi are a blight on the industry.

Episode 5 was everything that I was wishing for when I watched SAO! This is how action/fighting is meant to be done!

The main characters getting their arses handed to them and watching them struggle to defeat enemies and no last minute saving the main character, unlike SAO.

Episode 5

I was not expecting that ending! Which was quite impressive as there had been so much drama online that I was expecting a major twist. I still have no idea where the series is going, but with the recent episodes being this entertaining that's not too much of a problem.

I'm sort of glad this week's aired on Crunchyroll late as it makes the wait for the next episode a tiny bit shorter.

Episode 5 was...amazing. Luckily, I watched it on the big TV using my brother's XBox 360. It was brilliant. Definitely Anime of 2013 so far.

Episode 5.

What the hell? How did Eren even manage to get to the giant's mouth that quickly after it dropped Almin in its mouth?
