UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I kind of feel like Terraformars might have actually sold decently if it had been a full cour set, but I imagine the 6 eps strategy could very well kill it.

It always amazes how well the manga seems to sell in Japan.

I don't know, the strategy does allow you to skip the six crappy early episodes, and only buy the enjoyable last 7 episodes.

Of course it sells well, it's very nationalistic, and puts Japan as the centre of the world, in league with all the other powerful allies (and Russia), with China as the bad guys ...

I guess this isn't based on any actual evidence but I don't think the anime market is the same as it used to be (at least the UK/western market) so I don't think you can rely on how poorly something did a while ago as an indicator of how it would do now. Even if I'm completely wrong, I think there's still something to be said for re-examining old ideas rather than assuming things will always be the same.

I suppose it's also worth looking at the way things were released in the past, I suspect an Anime Limited style release might do better for something like Cardcaptor Sakura. The difference between a Blu-ray and DVD release might also be relevant (not to mention VHS).

You can thank Warner Bros. Japan for the release format.

Huh, I would have thought it would be Kaze themselves doing it. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time they've done something like this, unless as you say all of them are in fact from Warner Bros Japan.

They are releasing it but the format of 2 boxsets for one cour is something that came from licensor.

I think it's their first time doing that since they gave up (as well as the other distributors) on releasing those 4eps per DVD boxset.

Great to have a run-down of the details - definitely glad they've decided to go with individual plastic cases instead of a Guren Laggan style digipack - looks like it'll make for a much sturdier, smarter solution.

Full Metal Panic! Ultimate Edition details are up!

Here

Looking great! I can't fully picture the plans for the packaging but it sounds good.

Andrew & Co, when it comes to the standard releases of FMP, will they also be getting a DVD release? I can't be sure if it was confirmed but there must've been a reason why I put it on the schedule.....

Looks decent, still not 100% on buying it at over £100, but a step closer for sure. Really happy to see them move away from the digi-pack for this one too as I really hated how cheap it made the Gurren Lagann Ultimate Edition feel, although to be fair I had a lot of issues with that release which is why I'm so cagey about this one....

I'm curious how it will work though, maybe it will be kinda like the Destiny LE box but with 3 slots to fit the cases in rather than 1....

Wouldn't be against that idea myself.

Fear not! Zavvi has it at a tasty £99.99 if you're that way inclined....link here.

Interesting that Fumoffu definitely isn't getting an individual release. I think the Funimation release is Region B compatible anyway, maybe that's relevant (although I believe all three seasons are the same).

Not that it matters, seeing the details emerging is getting me excited again and it looks like it'll be a pretty good package.

I might switch my pre-order over to AL's shop but I'll probably wait until closer to the date just in case someone offers a crazy good price.

Having just checked my Amazon order and seeing it's sitting at £105, I think I'd rather pay that extra £5 than risk Zavvi sending it in a jiffy bag or something lol.
Is that price from Amazon including the £10 discount they did a while ago? If not then I must have missed a drop in price at some point.

The FMP Ultimate Edition looks pretty good, liking that it'll be 3 individual blu-ray sets with a hardback artbook. My ideal price would be around £80-90 as i've already got the USA sets so i'd have to sell those if i want to buy AL's set.

Is Fumoffu not a spin-off, rather than a straight sequel?

Because if it is, I can't help but feel the "season 2 of 3" wording might very well sabotage the standard releases' chances...

Edit: I'm assuming this is limited, but does anybody know how many copies it's limited to? The post doesn't seem to say.

The Ultimate Edition does look very nice. I'll hold out for a price drop around the £80 mark.

Yeah. It's a spin off (actually my favourite, of the three lol).
