UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

LotGH is a very good show, but very long. It goes too 100+ episodes from memory. I'd imagine that that would be risky. Also the reason I can't see AL going after SM.

Remind me who just licensed LOtGH for the U.S.? But yeah, I think at that length it'd be a real struggle to bring over here.nthat said, it's one of the few shows ranked in ANN's Top 50 that hasn't got a western release yet.

Sentai have got the anime. Viz's Haikasoru imprint has also licensed the first three instalments of the original novel series, with more to come if they sell well.

Yeah. I'm just happy that LotGH has been picked up. I'll definitely support it, but I don't think it'll sell all that well. It'd be weird to have an Ultimate Edition for it, without the OVAs and Movies. I'd imagine it would end up costing much more than all of the current UE's combined lol.

A Mushishi, JoJo and Aria Ultimate Edition would be ideal (for me lol), but if Anime Limited are only going for older series then Kino's Journey, Rurouni Kenshin , Yu Yu Hakusho and Haruhi Suzumiya would be pretty cool. If Director collections could count, then Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Millenium Acteress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika and Paranoia Agent) and Masaki Yuasa (The Tatami Galaxy, Ping Pong, Kaiba and Kemonozume), would be awesome, too. Doubt any of them would ever happen, though.

especially the clean front of the blu-ray case, no bbfc, no AL logos, just perfect :)

eh, i dont like how it's purely geared to the first arc, yet this is designed to hold both arcs, the box even has "phantom bullet" is

I thought the idea was that you put the subsequent collector's editions in the box with it, like Manga used to do, but with the box in the first volume instead of the last.

Totally get where you're coming from, but in fairness - it's where the image is from and a good chunk of S2 is set there - there's no one artwork to encompass the whole season in that respect and we felt that was the most stunning of the artworks. It also seemed smarter than two separate boxes for a four part series :).

Worked really well on the material we printed on too!

I'll be interested to see the quality of the transfer - I presume when it says upscaled it's because the show wasn't animated in HD to begin with?
Here's some quick caps I took primarily from episode 1 of Funi's discs. Remember that these aren't necessarily representative of Anime Limited's release, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect. (JP release is apparently similar to Funi's)
-FMP
-FMP Fumoffu

Whilst I haven't posted any screenshots from The Second Raid since I don't want to risk any potential spoilers for myself, It's definitely worse than the first two seasons for sure. Episode 1 has some weird bars on each side of the screen, and from the little I watched it has much more noticeable video issues. I would completely believe that Kadokawa screwed Funi over with the masters supplied.

Does the Funi release use two BD50s for TSR?
3x BD50s for FMP
1x BD50 & 1xBD25 for Fumoffu
2x BD50s for TSR

TSRs second disc has the equivalent of five and a half episodes on it as well as a 7 part location scouting feature @ ~2gb each.

EDIT: Checked the post on the site and Anime Limited's discs have exactly the same extra features for each season.
If it's the same masters I'm kind of hoping that they at least change the subtitles since it uses Funi's old hard to read style.

Thanks for checking.

Yeah I just did too. Wondering why AL's second disc is a BD25 if everything else is the same.

Either it's an error or they've created their own masters for TSR. I don't know much about the JP BD release of TSR, but one would assume it's better than Funi's. If it is an error, it's an easy one to make. Almost every Funimation release out there consists of 1xBD50 and 1xBD25. They very rarely use 2 BD50s for a 12/13 episode release.

Amarays in the FMP Ultimate Edition? Oh no...
An Ultimate Edition is a bespoke product. The digipacks in the Giovanni and Patema UEs look and feel like some serious effort has gone into them, along with loving attention to detail. Amaray's on the other hand are something I associate with cheap mass production, so they look and feel completely out of place to me.
I do understand why AL have done this, after the GL fiasco they probably never want to see another digipack ever again, and I know they can't please everyone, but I still feel disappointed. It looks like the rest of the set will be of the usual high standard though so I will still be buying it, it's just going to take me a while to get used to it.

Tweet states this is Funimation's masters. I was hoping they could have done a new version of the Blu-Rays as they don't look too great.

I don't think digipaks are an issue if they are the size of the hubs, it's when you have oversize ones it causes an issue.
It would be nice to have a digipak in a sturdy box which could slide in the larger Ultimate Edition case, but that's probably going over the top. It would keep the digipak from getting bent/crushed/damaged.
