UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Just got done with the podcast.

Entertaining and informative as ever. Looking forward to hearing anything that might come out of MCM in a couple of weeks.

At this rate, I imagine Sailor Moon is more likely for the UK - probably as DVD only from Manga, as Madman recently picked it up for AUS.

Cardcaptor Sakura would be nice - but I mention it only because it seems to be a staff favourite from comments in the podcast. In the case of both shows, I can imagine putting them through the BBFC could be costly due to the high episode counts.

Great listen, really nice sounding group of guys, I need a job there! Shame Export Documentation has nothing in common with Anime licensing!

I wager Cardcaptor Sakura will come eventually. 70 episodes is definitely a lot to but releasing it as 3 seasons could be a possibility? Nice limited to 1000 releases with 20 odd episodes each for say the RRP of the gundam releases (ALs longest show to date) and i'd be game.

I hope Manga don't pick it up, I really don't. A PAL mashing is the last thing Sailor Moon deserves.

And I would ahve agreed before DBZ got put through pretty much in the one go.

Yeah, that's a good point - although I wonder if Manga had more money back then, when they were owned by Starz? I presume they're only bankrolled now via income from what's sold?

They basically said 1 of the two and laughed then sort of discounted sailor moon unless theres a fixed BR so i think Cardcaptor has massive chance because i think it would sell just as well Sailor moon would and if they git the film as well they could create a ultimate edition

I think you're wrong. Sailor Moon Crystal got coverage in the Metro, it's big. Cardcaptor doesn't have that kind of appeal, and probably wouldn't get coverage, even if whoever owns it paid for it....

Just listening to the podcast at the moment and it was nice to hear the team discussing the point i raised regarding spines on AL's releases and Andrew makes some good points regarding design format changes - thanks for addressing it, very much appreciated

I'd be more inclined to buy Cardcaptor Sakura than Sailor Moon. I'd almost certainly buy a Cardcaptor Sakura release, Sailor Moon would depend more on what else is out and if I have money in the budget.

I'm still holding out hope for a Nichijou Blu-ray release though. Maybe 2016 is the year.

To be honest, the impression I got was that they weren't being especially serious about either title, but Sailor Moon was the more likely of the two.

Given Toei splits rights up and Jerome M has said they want TV deals for their titles and will hold out unreasonably long times for them, I think it'll be a long time before we get it anyway.

If you were listening to the podcast, we were "some forum" that was mentioned once or twice. That said, I doubt 5 or so people on a forum is enough to justify a licensing decision.

Well we already know that "some forum" is Andrew's favourite so if anything we should all be blessed.

It's a shame he didn't say the exact same of this forum because that would have provided free advertising.

I think I'm the doghouse though. I think one of the posts Jeremy mentioned during the Fairy Tail bit was mine.

The post I'm thinking about wasn't intended to be slightly tongue in cheek, and did follow several posts in which I questioned the assumption they had the FUNimation deal, but I don't think that came across.
