Any plans on acquiring the rights to the gundam movies anytime? (the ones that remade the tv series)

Unlikely, did those once at Beez and they didn't perform so well!

Ahh, that's a shame to hear - people seem to hold the movies in higher regard than the original series, although I suppose releasing the series makes more sense as it's never come out here before.

I guess the deal with Sunrise doesn't necessarily mean we'll be getting absolutely everything Gundam-related that RightStuff is planning to bring out? I imagine a lot of it depends how the original series does sales-wise first? But would be fantastic to get Turn A at somepoint soon too.

At this rate, I imagine Sailor Moon is more likely for the UK - probably as DVD only from Manga, as Madman recently picked it up for AUS.
Madman released CCS too, three years ago.

I hope Manga don't pick it up, I really don't. A PAL mashing is the last thing Sailor Moon deserves.
Madman are doing their own masters, and their own masters are usually PAL.

Just listening to the podcast at the moment and it was nice to hear the team discussing the point i raised regarding spines on AL's releases and Andrew makes some good points regarding design format changes - thanks for addressing it, very much appreciated
The problem with Tokyopop wasn't so much that they changed their logo, but that they changed their logo mid-run for some series.

If you were listening to the podcast, we were "some forum" that was mentioned once or twice. That said, I doubt 5 or so people on a forum is enough to justify a licensing decision.
Reputedly ADV licensed at least one show due to fan demand on Anime on DVD and it panned.

If it's between SM and CCS, I doubt either would tank, but SM has casual fans, I don't think CCS does. Either way, I don't think AL were being serious about acquiring either at this point, so this discussion is a bit redundant. Andrew sounded more serious about SM than CCS, but he said that it probably wouldn't happen for a long time.

Out of curiosity do we know the ADV title that panned or did the name of it never come out?

Speaking of AL pick-ups, I'm personally more interested as to what came out of that NTV meeting Andrew had a few weeks back. Especially given this Fandom Post report that came out a few months back...

It would be interesting see what AL would do with a long running series such as that - I know it's now finished due to the manga hiatus but we haven't really seen what AL would have in mind for a Shounen and so I would be inclined to find out what they'd treat us to.

I don't think they have it. If they picked anything up at all, it's probably more likely to be Death Parade, but I think AL could do something really cool with it if they did....

Their comments with regards to Fairy Tail make me think they're planning to stay away from long running shōnen series for a while though.

I imagine Sailor Moon would probably sell better as it's much more widely known - ie. I'm sure people on the street would have a vague notion of what Sailor Moon was, even if they'd never seen it - much like Dragonball Z does.

That said, I think CCS benefits from a lot of fond nostalgia from people of the generation that saw it airing on CITV after school - ie. the Pokemon/Digimon generation.

re. Hunter x Hunter 2011 - I do find it very odd there hasn't even really been a whisper about it, or even talk of a dub at this stage. I wonder if it occupies some unique position in licensing where they waiting to try and get it on TV before giving it a Western physical release? It'd be perfect for Toonami or something like that. In the years since it started airing it's become one of the most critically acclaimed anime ever - ie. on MAL it's rated the 5th best.

That said, as good as the show is, I don't see it as an Anime Ltd release - it's much more a Manga style title. I agree on Death Parade being right up Anime Ltd's alley.

If you read the Fandom Post article, it sounds like negotiations didn't even start for the US until June this year, and I'm going to bet there was competition over it. So it's probably more a case of nothing being announced, because nothing is yet certain. I'd personally hope FUNimation get it, as I vastly prefer their dubbing.

I think Hunter x Hunter is very well designed and I can see AL doing something cool with it, but it would probably be more traditionally in Manga's wheelhouse.

Fair do, if it was a stright run from SAILOR_MOON_01X1_MADMAN.ISO to SRMUN01X1_MANGAUK.ISO then fair play, I trust Madman to do conversions a lot more than the house overfiend built. It's usauly when that's in house that everything goes the shapes of seveal fruits.

ADV did a lot of stupid crap. That's why they changed their name and they now hide from creditors least they get their thumbs broken off as well overdue payment.

If they released Cardcaptor Sakura I'd happily buy it, although NIS America have a nice set out at the moment and so I'm considering buying it. But for those without a region A BD player, I think the idea of a CCS release would be awesome - as someone said above, it will be most likely the generation of kids born in the late 80s through to mid 90s that will have fond memories of this being aired after school

I think I'm a jinx. Every time I place a pre-order on the AlltheAnime webstore, it gets delayed. Just pre-ordered Prism Illiya about 3 days ago.

It's interesting that the AL shop has competitive prices for Illya and Ping Pong (at least). I hope they stay up for a while because I'll probably switch my orders to their store if the prices are the same at the end of the month (might need to wait to get paid since, as I understand it, their store takes payment right away for pre-orders).

I know they take payment within 24 hours if you pre-order using paypal but don't know about paying by card.

I've pre-ordered 009 Re:Cyborg and Mobile Suit Gundam Part 1 from their store for two reason. Firstly the prices were good and secondly that the money gets taken straight away, i don't have to worry about having the money come release day.

SM already tanked for MVM. It was dub-only, but that's exactly what the casual fans would want. No idea how well Cardcaptors did for Contender, but they never finished it (IIRC it was the movie first on VHS and DVD with a foil cover and lovely Cheerful Scout menus, followed by four double VHS volumes with free stickers, but then two extremely barebones DVDs and nothing after)

I can't even remember where I read/heard it. It might have been an ANNCast or something.

I feel if Sailor Moon was given another shot, it'd do better. I'm not expecting amazing numbers, but it's a title that's well known enough that it's command a certain number of residual sales.

I mean, God, if you look at some of the newer no-name titles that are coming out from Kaze etc. over the coming months, anything has got to do better than them, right?

Are you kidding? I'm sure Terraformars is going to sell like hotcakes with the "neo-nazi overtones" crowd. :D

(Although for what it's worth, Terraformars is an incredibly guilty pleasure of mine.)

Plus it's the only English release (exc. Japanese sets) of the series as of late.
