UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Excellent news, looks like it'll be a release similar to Kill la Kill with it being in more than 2 parts and having a box to house all parts.

Well that is certainly one hell of a surprise right there. Anime Limited have already thrashed the other distributors when it comes to announcements already.

I'll still be going for the Aniplex sets for consistency reasons (and the OST), but what Anime Limited is providing for the UK will make up for the cost and parts that the UK is forced to put up with.

Heck I guess we can all ignore the whole 'one franchise should stick with one distributor' now that Sword Art Online has gone to another distributor. @Anime released the Extra Edition so perhaps they could get that as well.

UPDATE: Hold up.. does this mean Anime Limited could pick-up the Madoka Magica Movie Trilogy? I see why not.

I could see this being a big seller for AL, seems to be a popular property, but something I have zero interest in.

Like I said on another thread, I had Aniplex's release of SAO pre-ordered, but I just cancelled it, I'd rather give my money to Anime Limited.

Damn that US set is nice, shame it's no doubt region locked as it can be had for less than £30, and lets be honest Anime Limiteds release probably won't be as nice. I am somewhat interested anyway.

I already own Fuse but the quality of the UK BD market seems to increase each time AL makes an announcement :D

One of my friends will be very happy about this news.

R, hoping someone will ask a Manga rep about the SAO II thing tomorrow and record the results

They already released the Madoka Magica movies in France, so I'd be curious to know if they have the UK license. Same with Sword Art Online: Extra Edition.

If they do, I hope they announce it soon. The Aus version comes out on the 8th and if I haven't heard anything by then I'm ordering that one. I hope they do pick it up and give it a CE. I'd definitely be willing to drop some cash on a really nice CE. The Aus CE (The only Blu Ray version available) is just a standard Blu Ray with a slipcase and some post cards.

Whoa, I wonder what happened there? I honestly thought "franchises sticking with one company" was still a thing, I guess it isn't. Could it be a matter that Manga isn't in a place to pick up new title other than DBZ/FT/OP and are relying on KAZE/Animatsu for titles now? If so, why didn't Animatsu jump all over SAO 2? It's so odd...so many questions! Man, i hope there isn't some bad blood for this acquisition, I'm aware of one person not being happy about the Baccano BD situation already.....

Everyone seen the comments on the FB post? Irritating. I can understand the frustration, some don't like CE's and prefer standards right off the bat but at at the same time their anger blinds them from the bigger picture, it's like they refuse to look at matters from a different perspective :/ just relying on their anger or whatever..they just loose their marbles right away and that backhanded comment towards a member from this forum was pretty annoying, had to hold back and be nice ;)

I've not even seen the first season of SAO, it didn't feel like my type of show so I don't know if I'd get A/L's release. Fuse looks interesting, will get that.

I think a lot of Anime distributors in the UK have just really complacent, with hardly any competition up until now to drive them to instigate anything, Manga would go for the big releases, and MVM would pick up everything else that's already out in other regions like AUS and US and now Anime Limited have come out and are being proactive, at least that's how I see it.

I love how people conflate RRP and actual selling prices whenever it suits their argument. Manga UK's SAO RRP of £30 for a defective release is ok, but a decent release at less than a tenner more (and probably the same price for the subsequent volumes without the box) is suddenly daylight robbery? If it went straight to standard edition everyone would have to wait a year anyway since the show is so fresh and Japan wouldn't like an aggressively priced competitor on the market. Sheesh.

That guy who said he would just fall back on his 'fansubbed' BDs shot his own argument in the foot in his own first post, too. AL shouldn't have wasted their breath replying to someone like that.

I can understand not liking LEs and the current state of the market, but praising Manga UK's utterly crummy release of s1 compared to the same deal only much better from AL makes no sense! Manga UK already explained over and over that they weren't allowed to release a cheap edition from the start with SAO. At least most of the people in that thread seem to be reacting more normally.

Sorry, I think I was just reminded why I don't use Facebook.

I'm quite content with the releases they got, though i did find it surprising to hear that they got SAO II after Manga released the first series. I don't tihnk it'll make me interested in watching it? As i've never really taken a fancy to SAO, but it's nice to see it get good treatment here either way. On the other hand, i'd be tempted to pick up Fuse, especially since i've always liked the film releases from AL.

On a happier note for me too, I love the fact that we have a rough time estimate in place now for Full Metal Panic! Ultimate Edition. Do we have any ideas for content in it or pricing? Or was it more just a confirmation of time frame?

To be fair, we don't know if this release will be smooth sailing either :p Agree with your sentiment overall however.

They're mainly working with Sentai at the moment, while Anime Limited have an existing relationship with Aniplex.
Whether something precludes Animatsu licensing from Aniplex, whether they just haven't ramped up to that yet, whether for some reason they didn't want it or whether they were outbid - you'd have to ask them.
