UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Is there any possibility of AL posting a list of which cinemas are showing Your Name dubbed and which subbed? I'd love to book my ticket, but my three local cinemas don't specify on their sites if they are dubbed or subbed screenings.
You have three local cinemas showing it?

*Writhes with jealousy...*

Another week, another batch of delays :p The last of my amazon pre-orders (Ass Class Part 2) is delayed. Sort of glad i've given up on the pre-order lark

Eden of The East looks good though, may snap up the early bird offer, even if i'm sure it wont' come out in November :p

By "local" I mean "within two buses and under 1h30m on those buses". The closest of the cinemas showing Your Name is still a 35 minute bus journey followed by a ~15 minute walk though. There is also a 10 minute walk to the bus stop.
For comparison, my actual local cinema is a 25 minute bus journey and ~3 minute walk. My favourite cinema, however, is a 3 minute bus journey, followed by a ~25 minute bus journey, followed by a 5 minute walk. Sadly, neither of these is screening Your Name.

It occurs to me that I may have access to too many cinemas, as there are another two cinemas, both ODEONs, that would meet my criteria for "local", but they aren't screening Your Name either.

I wasn't being entirely serious, I'm not sure I have even have three cinemas within 90 minutes of bus time away.

Cheltenham seems to have fallen through the cracks, as I'm in the unfortunate position of being about 40 miles away from three different screenings, none of which are to my knowledge easily accessible by bus.

I have a showing for both Your Name and Akira 10 mins from my house but I'm not really interested in seeing either one, I might go just for the sake of it tho...maybe. Now if I could see In this Corner of the World...

Pretty pissed at the AssClass delay, it's a show I've been wanting to see for ages now and it annoys me to no end that me, the person who's actually willing to part with money to watch it still hasn't seen it while a bunch of people I know sailed the seven seas for it and have all moved on from it by now.....

Anyway the Eden of the East set looks great, but it's also incomplete in my eyes so I'm unlikely to buy it (I already have the series, don't see the point in double dipping without the movies included), so that's a real shame really.

It doesn't really help you now, but Assassination Classroom has been available on Funimation Now since launch.

Yeah but I heard nothing but bad things about FuniNow so I was waiting for the BD to watch in acceptable quality/without having to deal with a buggy player.

If it's any consolation, I'm not sure there's much discussion to be had, so it doesn't seem like you're missing out on much by waiting. However, it seems like several of us are watching, so we could always try and time it close together.

Whilst I don't think it's a very discursive series, it would be interesting to hear what people think. Especially those that are far removed from their school days. I do wonder whether some of the things Assassination Classroom is going for resonate with an older crowd or not.

Are you calling me old buzz? ;_; Tbh I'm not actually all that into the discussion side of anime anyway, mainly because I'm not very good with words lol (I do like reading other peoples discussions though).

Like others, if Eden Of The East had the movies I may have kept my pre-order and sold the Manga complete set, but for me without the movies it's not worth double dipping.

Surprise! A brand new podcast just went live...

For those that don't have time, here's what was said...
  • What's on this podcast? "Stuff." "That's not how you pronounce delays." :p
  • Yesterday's Newswire
    • Assassination Classroom: Season 1, Part 2 (BD only) - The discs are in UK cases, not US cases. These won't fit the box that came with part 1, so they're going to be swapped before release. [Which I jokingly predicted would happen. Oh dear.] The news is so breaking, but we'll probably have a date within the next week. The crew are really disappointed, but like seeing supportive comments on forums.
    • ... (prolonged discussions of iPhones, iPride, headphone jacks, wireless headphones and how one garrotes Russian assassins without a headphone wire to do it with)
    • Free! Eternal Summer - 3rd October. Too wet, we have to dry it off. Delayed a week due to a delay in stock delivery. Kerry stands 100% behind the product and it's marketing and anyone that objects can fight her. But Kat jokingly suggested "Wet Hot Summer" and Kerry took it seriously. It was a splash of excitement in the depressing world of marketing...
    • Empire of Corpses - 26th September.
    • Eden of the East - CE was shown in the newswire. Digipack, artcards, stickers (which Kerry likes and Kat says "make it so"), also contains the 40p official logbook, that has never before been translated and an English AL exclusive. Includes an event map and team discussions (discussions between cast and crew members), a dissection of the mobile phone (which may or may not have a headphone jack) and an interview with Kenji Kamayama. As well as 90 minutes of on-disc extras. Also has blue foiling that isn't visible in the pictures. Date is currently unconfirmed, but they're working for November. Until 25th September, there is a £29.99 pre-order offer on AL's webstore.
    • Your Name - They have licensed it, will be releasing on DVD/BD in the future, but will be released theatrically across 78 UK cinemas and 1+ locations in Ireland on 24th November. Also, the first anime in competition at the BFI London Film Festival with three screenings. (One of which is sold out.) Visit www.yournamethemovie.co.uk for more info.
    • It's doing really well in Japan, better than The Boy and the Beast and Toho's expectations. There's an interesting opening sequence, which plays more like a TV show opening, and warms the audience up to the music from RADWIMPS.
    • It has been rated 12A and does not treat the audience as if it's stupid.
    • Andrew suggests we keep an eye out for the food scenes, which is the industry way of screaming "Haha. We got all the Ghibli animators." Andrew suggests they will continue working for Shinkai, and we might see a Ghibli-esque-ness within these sequences.
    • A lot of the trainlines are apparently locations near studios, and it will make the audience nostalgic to go back to Tokyo (if they have been).
    • Andrew highlights and compliments Manga on their work getting Akira and Dragon Ball in cinemas, and suggests that their work with National Amusements has helped get Your Name into cinemas. Rather than riding off Manga's coattails, they're working to create an ecosystem that allows wider releases to be possible. [Andrew has previously said that he has Manga's blessings in working with National Amusements.]
    • Andrew says that buying tickets and using an unlimited card to buy tickets, even if you don't go, will help films go wider.
    • Kat is currently cutting a new trailer for the film, because Kerry isn't sure Toho's does the best job. They suggest Kat's new trailer might be worth waiting for. Kat suggests avoiding recent Japanese trailers as she thinks they perhaps give away too much information.
    • If this does well, there are good possibilities for theatrical lined up for the future. "This is a chance to make a really big statement." They also think it's an excellent film.
    • Gonna Be The Twin-Tail! - 10th October. Delayed due to a delay in the delivery of stock. They seem exasperated, but promise it is coming.
    • More news on Funimation titles will be coming in the future.
  • Scotland Loves Anime's line-up has been revealed
    • Apparently SLA (not Anime Ltd.) are subtitling A Silent Voice, and they will have it's EU premiere.
    • The UK premiere of Kizumonogatari 1 & 2 in Edinburugh
    • European premiere of Girls Und Panzer: The Movie, Jeremy wants everyone excited to tweet in. Andrew wants everyone excited by other films to tweet in...
    • www.lovesanimation.com is the place to go for tickets
    • Ticket sales are going very well.
    • Andrew's looking forward to it, especially Redline. The AL crew would like to know why you're reading this and not booking Redline tickets?
    • Kerry is looking forward to Belladonna of Sadness, which keeps selling places out.
    • They would also like to highlight Momo's Divine Sea Warriors, which will be accompanied by a discussion about it's importance from Jonathan Clements. (A Clemmentary... :p)
  • They will be at MCM Scotland next week. Their will be a Scotland Love Anime panel, followed by the anime guest of honour, Reo Kurosu, who will also be doing signings. They will have Berserk signing cards available. Sunday afternoon, AL will have a panel. There will be news.
  • MCM London is coming again, and who knows where things will go from there.
  • They're trying for a new podcast to go up just before MCM Glasgow, they intend to talk about the Crunchyroll/Funimation hook up then.

Then how does it fit inside the collector's box? It's designed to fit a US BD, not a UK one. A UK BD fits in there, but only if you take the book out...
