UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

That's pretty worrying to hear that they're directly contrasting the UK and US markets - especially as a) I'd heard UC 0079 had done pretty well by all standards, and b) this was one of the 'bigger' Gundams, and with a dub to boot.

This is kind of what I was getting at above, by the time you get to the 'less famous' Gundams, and some of those being sub-only, the sales are inclined to be lower - so if Sunrise aren't overly happy with the sales already, what are they going to say down the line?

Although part of this reminds me of the situation with Toei and DBZ/One Piece/Sailor Moon and Manga's anecdote about how they just couldn't accept that UK telly wasn't like US telly and that they wanted to hold out for a proper TV run of those shows before they were released to disc.

If we're all excited by how well MSG is doing here and Sunrise is disappointed, it does sound like a mismatch in their expectations. The US has had lots of Gundam on television and has a much bigger audience; the fact that so many people have embraced a BD of a really old show with almost zero nostalgia appeal in this country is amazing. Hopefully the kinks will be ironed out quickly so we can blow them away with sales of the later editions.

I wonder how well the expensive import of Origin is doing? They must have figures on the UK 'release' of Origin and Unicorn, so there's an interesting spread of data to compare and profile the UK audience. I'd like to see a wallet-friendly release for the more mass market friendly seasons of Gundam eventually (even though I love Origin and think the LE sets are incredible).

Well I'm definitely going to pick up zeta and the 0079 movies myself now along with every other UC thing that comes out apart from ZZ. Hopefully AL can give them a reality check about UK sales and delays from releasing the shows get closer to the US.

While obviously not being privy to the current financial details of the distribution partnership, surely what would happen is that AL have to change to a direct licence model (like with G-Reco) and take all the financial risk while Sunrise get whatever payment pleases them? It would make no sense to stop their property being sold altogether.

The reason for the delays are currently because Sunrise's sales team in Japan is not happy with the numbers in the UK in comparison to the USA for Part 1 & 2 of the original series more than anything. We're pushing ahead in the meantime and packaging has been approved - but we're waiting on sign-off for menu's now while this discussion goes on :). It's likely a bump in the road, but there's more at play than just an AL delay, won't stop Zeta or the Original Trilogy coming out anyway and I'm pretty sure business as usual but yeah, the joys of paperwork!

[EDIT] To add a bit of context - this is a new market for them - the USA is a more familiar one. So what they'd rate as big in the US obviously won't match here at 1/10th of the market size. Zeta's delay hinges on menu approval etc - which isn't helped though when the above discussion is going on at the same time. The EU team there remains supportive though so it's more about re-education. I understand folks frustrations as surprisingly enough, we feel frustrated too ;).

G-Reco is on schedule as that's a direct license at least :).

Best,

AP

.....Don't do this to me, 2016. We all know this franchise could break my heart :(

Anyone had their Samurai Flamenco Part 2 ship from AL store? Usually AL are pretty good and get the titles to you a few days before launch, no sign of that this time though.

Presumably the delay meant that they have only just gotten their stock more recently. They did post an unboxing on their site so hopefully that's a good sign and that it was just recently is probably another indicator that stock has only just come in.

Don't worry they've been shipped over the last day and today :)
Have only just had a chance to update the status of all of the orders for it on our shop due to me QC'ing [title redacted - 'cos it's a secret :p ] so expect it any day now!

Thanks for confirmation. This secret title, I'm fully expecting a "we've licensed SECRET TITLE and it'll be released NEXT WEEK" :p

Same here, I was planning on watching AssClass once Part 2 released so for it to be delayed to a TBA date is disappointing :(

The Eden of the East CE does look great though, £29.99 is a great price too but without the films it's a deal breaker for me. Hopefully AL can pickup the films and release them both in one CE at which point I'll definitely get the TV series CE, until then I'll stick with my Manga UK set.

The Eden of the east set is cool, but the lack of movies is a "no-go" for me. :(
Funimation restriction? The serie is not complete without these 2 films.

re: Assassination Classroom
Just to clarify, is delayed to TBA only because we discovered this problem today. As it's a Friday that prevented us from being able to get new date confirmed today. But either way we wanted to let you guys know today rather than waiting until next week.

So will likely have a new date confirmed next week :)

Is there any possibility of AL posting a list of which cinemas are showing Your Name dubbed and which subbed? I'd love to book my ticket, but my three local cinemas don't specify on their sites if they are dubbed or subbed screenings.
