UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

That's the on-disc extras, the Japanese releases come with a large booklet separate to the manga chapter as well per part which we'll be working on too :). On disc extras for that kind of release are always less interesting than the packaging ones to be honest anyway :). So I was referring to the print component there - sorry for the ambiguity on my part!

As I say, we can only work within the lines of what we have there on it and as always, just because it's been listed doesn't mean there won't be firstly special deals on All the Anime's site and secondly doesn't mean that it's the final fixed price. We will always try to fight that corner too but as you know, we have some limitations on this particular show...

The booklet would have to be closer to a fully-fledged book for me to consider £40+. I have to wonder who this release is for, huge fans will want the OST and I don't think anybody else will be able to justify that pricetag.

Are you at least using AoA's disc masters?

I will say, that SRP for Erased is disappointing. For me, it's prohibitively high enough (£10 per episode?!) that I'll be waiting on a standard edition. Alas, Andrew, you can only do what you can do.

Shame, as it's a neat little show by most accounts.

I'm personally concerned that the CE will never sell out, so Andrew won't be able to convince AoA to let him do a standard edition.

Surely if it did, theoretically, sell that poorly, retailers would administer their own discounts just to shift stock like they've done with other titles in the past?

Not a guarantee with restrictions - but as I said folks and you may recall from previous times, the price is not final until I submit the product for approval. So I appreciate all the feedback as always folks ;). Doesn't mean I can do anything usually as normally we're already at that stage by listing, but every so often there's a window of opportunity...

Creating our own one for this one with someone good on the mastering frontier - but that said like I say don't be surprised if there's a chance to buy for under £40 too :).

SAO pricing is hard to hit if we want to do something nice, but you never know - I always specify my pricing for the committee varies depending on what extras we can access so you may want to wait before fetching torches and pitchforks anyway :).

It does feel somedays though that whatever I do to help is a pretty thankless task and whatever we do won't be enough for some to buy it though...ho hum!

Best,

Hmmm, Erased was one of the best series I've seen in recent times, and I was happy when AL got the licence, but a two-part release with KLK CE prices makes me think twice. I've become much stricter with what I get on BD lately, especially with anime as it's comparatively more expensive than everything else. As much as I loved Erased, I don't know if this release will be for me. It's unfortunate that Aniplex are playing hardball with AL on this.

Out of curiosity - what would have made you happy then :)? I mean we're stuck in a 2 part format anyway for this one but I'm curious as it never hurts to know :).

A one part release naturally :p The recent Universal releases pretty much represent my ideal for a 1-cour CE

In all seriousness, if we're talking a two part restriction on a one cour series, something akin to SAO2 would work for me. If my understanding is correct, when you take out the OST, that's essentially what we're getting anyway (rigid case and booklets), just at a rather higher price.

Keep in mind Andrew that I'm fully aware that this is out of your hands. As soon as Aniplex licensed this I knew that there would be strict restrictions. I still intend to buy many AL releases in the future, just maybe not this one right away!

Is there any chance of designing the the rigid box around "The Town Where Only I Don't Exist", as used on official merchandise, rather than the, in my opinion, awful English title?

The ERASED booklets are a lot chunkier than the SAO ones as a heads up, but ideally that's what I'd be shooting for - £39.99 - £49.99 SRP but it wholly depends on licensor approval. I'd add that one being in December is a tentative price point still so people should wait and see what's coming :). I'm just waiting to confirm the booklet page count before I can propose something as we can't really do a release at a price that loses money either of course and the number of unit sales SAO II gets will be 2-5x that of ERASED most likely :).

For £69.99, yes :D. Alas I've been asked to downgrade the price now so the official English title it is, sorry!

;)

Fair do's, I'll keep an eye and see what the final proposition looks like.

My rule of thumb is generally £24.99-29.99 for a standard 12-13 ep Blu-ray and £34.99-44.99 for a CE 12-13 ep Blu-ray, with anything above that considered case by case. This mostly covers 90% of releases at current UK price points anyway, so I naturally have to ask more questions at anything above that!

Split the difference between £60 and £70 SRP and have "The Town Where Only I Don't Exist" on an O-card?

For actual buying points at least our shows usually stick in that when discounts are applied etc by retailers where we can :). But yeah, ERASED is the odd one out there but it falls within the usual area which differs alas. Totally can respect the logic anyway too!

Welp! I'm going to have to ask for money & gift vouchers for Christmas, lots I want to pick up from Q4 & that's without other title's being placed within.

The Anthem of the Heart
Belladonna of Sadness
Erased: Part 1
Genius Party & Genius Party Beyond
The Murder Case of Hana & Alice
Ouran High School Host Club
Persona 3 the Movie #1 (Movie 2 depends on my enjoyment of the first)
Pigtails and Other Shorts
Project Itoh: Harmony
The Tatami Galaxy
Tokyo Marble Chocolate
Your Lie in April: Part 2

:S

Considering Lupin the Third (2015) too..

EDIT: Was Mind Game licensed? I swear I saw something about it when checking Twitter at work over the weekend. Am I making it up or is it truly (& hopefully) the case?

With Erased I am guessing there won't be a standard/cheaper version? I'm sure I remember Andrew saying that about SAO II.

Adding my usual disclaimer that I am not a doctor (and an additional one that I am not Andrew from Anime Limited) I was under the impression that SAO II was as likely to get a standard edition as anything else, but not for a considerable amount of time.

Quick note to Andrew here as well, on a personal level: Thanks for being your usual forthcoming self on the forum. I appreciate it can't be easy to deal with some of the concerns / disappointments that surface from time to time.

I say this as somebody who complains a LOT, and mostly about prices. I guess that's one of those things you have to rationalise with the old adage 'it is what it is', and I for one hope that the input is helpful - even if it's not necessarily what a distributor might want to see on these boards.
