Wow Tokyo Ghoul Root A is sold out on AL's website. Not sure if its a temporary thing or that they really have sold out on their site.

Actually sold out of Collector's - standard is out soon thankfully! All that is available in retail now is all that's left...

Best,

AP
Good thing I just got the dispatch notice from Music Magpie in the last hour. Ordered Zeta on the early bird today as well.

Noticed earlier that I probably could have ordered Zeta for £32 on music magpie at the weekend with the 20% off code. Only would have saved around €0.50 myself though due to needing it reshipped which costs €3.50 per item.

Regarding the hold ups on certain releases, I think it's worth adding my voice to those saying we'd sooner something like Miss Hokusai have the time taken over it. As eagerly as I'm awaiting that one, the world isn't going to end if it takes a while to appear, and a quality release is always worth its weight in gold to me. (I'm currently sitting through AL's Lord Marksman and Vanadis release on DVD and AMAZED at the quality of it.)

Also, not sure how much use this might be to Andrew, but one of the aims of my Youtube reviews has been to throw a spotlight on things like Samurai Flamenco, which seem to fall short of getting the love they deserve. I've had the show on my mental list of things to check out once both parts are available. I might be able to see about fast tracking that one...

Sucks about Samurai Flamenco, had hypothesised that the sales was the cause of the delay. Awful thing is I'm highly tempted to sell part 1 and be done with it now. That's another trade off Andrew didn't mention, people buying part 1 and waiting to watch with part 2, but then selling it because part 2 is nowhere to be seen and then not buying part 2. I'll give it a month or two and if I hear nothing I'm just gonna sell it and maybe watch sometime on Netflix, which is something i don't usually do.

Hoping Hokusai makes July. Been my most wanted release all year tbh.

Disappointing to hear that Samurai Flamenco has performed so poorly; a friend of mine is a super huge fan of the series and would love Part 2 to be released. One thing I was curious about, was that with Part 2 already being released in France but without English subtitles
I took a chance on getting the French release of part 2 of "Samurai Flamenco" because the first part had the French dub and French subtitles. The good news is that the @Anime (French arm of All the Anime) version does have English subtitles, even though it's not mentioned on @Anime's website or on the slip covering the back of the BD. You can see that the release was designed to be sold in the UK as well as France like the first part, with the slip covering the back being the only difference between the countries.

It's disappointing to hear SF Part 1 didn't sell well at all, and I appreciate them still pushing to release part 2.

While I myself completely understand not releasing until BBFC costs are recouped, I hope others don't turn it into a Manga situation (where they won't buy until all parts are out). It's obvious this is just an isolated case as I don't think anyone expected this title to sell hugely well. I'm looking forward to getting part 2 when it does come though.

Every time I hear about niche titles being strangled by the additional burden of the BBFC I feel depressed. It wouldn't have helped its sales if they didn't exist, but it certainly would have lowered the break even point -_-

Since a bunch of people are now waiting to find out what happens, I think there's a good reason to go with a Crunchyroll stream if one can be arranged to bridge the gap aside from the marketing angle...

Now you saying that makes me want to get the French release even though i want to support the UK release but i love SamFlam and really want part 2 and not sure i can wait.

I think Samurai Flamenco would fair a bit better if it were just a simple standard edition release (split into 2 parts of course because Aniplex). Back when the set was revealed I'm pretty sure they said it would be the start of a potential experiment with subtitle only releases on Collector's Edition Blu-rays. The show didn't do well everywhere else and it's too much of a risk to pull it off especially as the show gets weirder later in the series. The sub-only Blu-ray only experiment should have started with later acquired titles like Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Sound! Euphonium.

I'm not saying the Collector's idea for SamFlam is bad, I really like what they have done for it. It's just that the show has done bad enough that they shouldn't have taken the risk to make one for it, unless of course it had to happen because of Aniplex.

I'll admit that I haven't yet picked up Part 1 and that was because I had other titles to worry about (Aniplex titles expiring in the US for example) and the lack of funds, but I do think a standard edition release and more legal streaming (like making it accessible on Crunchyroll rather than just Netflix) would have helped the show out for UK fans a fair bit more.

Posting a disclaimer in advance that Samurai Flamenco itself may not be the best release to seize on to make this particular point, I think this pretty well points to the concerns I have over the 'CE first, SE later' sales model.

Simply put, not every show warrants CE treatment, very few (in my personal opinion) deserve it and some are just flat out silly to consider doing one for. If CEs become a regular dictate on the part of licensors (for the sake of argument - I have no idea what Japan's involvement in these things might be) then I can see more than a few rude awakenings on the horizon.

I'm not angling this as a criticism of Anime Limited, mind you. If there's anything we can trust them with, it's their knack of putting out very nice products, and this show in particular has 'special case' written all over it. Here's hoping it doesn't prove to be a complete dud long term, sales-wise.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this, I might investigate this avenue now.....

Anime Limited Unboxing - Aldnoah.Zero: Season 1 Collector's Edition [Blu-ray]

The set looks nice, but stacked discs in a digipack is a HUGE NO.

I repeat my previous assertion that digipacks should be left the heck alone, distributors cannot be trusted...

The set looks quite nice, would have liked some mecha art on the digipack though since there isn't any on the artbox.

I don't see a problem with the stacked digipack tbh, if it wasn't stacked it would be as big as Durarara's digipack due to the 4 discs.

Discs stacked without hubs have a tendency to get damaged or scratched, especially if it's DVDs they're holding.

Fortunately, this is less of a problem for BDs, but I'd still rather not encourage it.

I agree if it was DVDs that were in a stacked digipack i'd have an issue with it as i've had problems with DVDs getting scratched in them before but as you say it's for BDs so it shouldn't been an issue as you have to do serious damage to a BD to scratch it.

I knew someone would bring up GL, you can't really use that as an example as the problem with GL was the digipack card being too big for the disc holders so they had too much space to move around. If it was the stacked digipacks in that set that was the main issue they wouldn't be using them again for another set.
