I got the GKIDS Steelbook from CR this week. It's really nice.
AL got to pay the bills I guess, and if the shounen stuff helps them do that, good for them. I just wish it wasn't entirely at the expense of everything they have that interests me.
I’ve got zero standards; I’ll buy and watch anything once.
Case point 1: I’ve been getting the Bleach (and Naruto) CE releases. I haven’t watched a single episode of Bleach. In fact; I don’t think I’ve even seen my promos or trailers.
Case point 2: One of my growing piles is Gundam. Half LEs and half from AL’s BOGOF sales. I recall calculating that there are several hundred hours pending in that pile alone, and the most (closest thing) I’ve watched is my Macross set from decades ago.
Case point 3: I diligently buy any and all of MVM’s DotW offerings (and all the stuff they had in clearance). Some is really bad (and some are absolute gem, far more deserving of a CE than Netflix stuff). But I still add them to the shelf in the alphabetical location.
My main issue with the bleach sets at the moment is that the releases seem a bit lacking in the CE department: I did consciously opt to try the ‘first press’ versions for the (three, tiny) cards (and sleeves), but it’s so minor and half hearted that I won’t bother again.
Sure; the first comes with a box and artbook (but it’s more a B&W sketchbook, with a handful of simplistic colour illustrations at the end).
The rest (aside from the sleeve and cards) are just on-disc OP/ED, gallery, and dub(!) commentary.
I’ve yet to decide if I start watching once pt5 ‘completes’ the first set, or if I need to wait for the rest first.
