UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

The other reason this and AZ are taking longer is that I'm pushing for at least full cour sets. But that takes time and effort so hang with me, trying to make the best possible release we can for folks :).

I like this post a lot. But I like the 'at least' part especially.

In your latest newswire it states that the DVD version of Kill La Kill Part 3 is OOP, however on your store it says the Blu-Ray version is sold out ..is this a mistake or are you just waiting for more stock of the Blu-Ray?

Nope, not a mistake. Was literally a case we were sold out and waiting for a delivery of new stock on the BD version. The DVD units we have in our shop is all we have left though.

EDIT - Meant to add I've actually just been updating various listing on our web shop, and have updating KLK3 BD to be in stock once again :)

Cheers for the reply Jeremy :thumb:

DRR x2 was only released a few weeks ago and you got the assesses before AZ Which came out a few months ago. Thanks ANIPLEX

Steady on, it's not their fault just sometimes contracts take longer or such :). We're on it though and it'll happen, just got to be patient sometimes I'm afraid!

AP

Hmm they deliberately make AUS and UK release take a long time UBW has not got a date here to AUS but came out in AUG in US

Or maybe UK and AUS distributors aren't pushy/insane enough to ask for £40 for 3 episodes and have to wait as a result? Seems unfair to blame AoA because we want stuff cheap, especially when we're fortunate to be getting cheap releases in the first place.

From the sounds of it AoA are trying to push AL closer to their model, which I personally would hate because I'd never be able to afford anything :( (and to be honest, I don't know a lot about the UK anime industry, but I can't see that model being sustainable here), so I hope AL keeps fighting the good fight.

I have to admit, while I don't mind the AZ or DRRR delay as it's clear Anime Ltd is pushing for a superior product at a no doubt cheaper price, the UBW delay does bother me a little, especially as MVM did originally say it'd be out by the end of 2015 which no longer seems to be the case.

While I appreciate and hope we might get a cheaper UBW when it does come out, I'm of no doubt many sales will have been lost to the U.S. Import by this point.

It's not strange that the UK and Australia would have to wait since they will most likely release a significantly cheaper version. The Japanese UBW box 1 costs about $290 on Amazon Japan while the Aniplex of America version costs $180 on RightStuf and they had to wait 5 months to release their set.

AL originally said outright they would be doing two sets of 12 episodes for AZ, the first of which would appear during Q4 this year. I'm guessing AoA had a strategy change at some point, and that was no longer an option for either distributor.

I don't think MVM have anything to worry about, the prices for that are genuinely insane, especially for people who aren't part of the Fate hardcore.

I suppose the thing I'm trying to get down to is - when delays happen (or more specifically, when the period between a US and UK release becomes longer) what is the core reason? Is it purely contactual (ie. they simply won't let us release it this early, no matter what) or is it down to resources and manpower (ie. we could have released it at exactly the same time, but we had to physically create the assets, sort things out, sort distribution channels and packaging etc. etc.)

I mean, in an ideal world the UK would release every anime title day and date with the US, but that's never going to happen unless someone like an ADV returns that actually exists as a company in both the US or the UK (say for example if Funi suddenly started releasing UK editions too - but like that's ever going to happen).

That said, I think it's pretty neat that we've beaten the US to the punch on certain titles like Space Dandy and Bebop - and even have UK exclusives now like Samurai Flamenco.

Okay so basically the reason we get delays is due to UK being cheap it makes sense considering GL UE only now selling out a year later and that was only £90 much cheaper than the US version. Tokyo Ghoul is the only AL title I've seen to sell out fast and thats due to it being hyped up when its an average anime at best

I think it's mostly contractual, because AL who seem eternally busy managed to day and date Mobile Suit Gundam with the US. (Although stuff gets released on a Monday in the UK, and a Tuesday in the US, so I can't see it happening regularly.)

Also, FUNi said on their recent ANNCast that they would be announcing concrete international expansion plans next year. The UK seems like the obvious candidate for expansion, and they have just signed a deal with Universal that would probably help them distribute titles over here.

And i would easily spend another £100-150 on UBW set I though I already own both JP parts

You've said this already, and I so have I, but again-- You are the exception, not the rule, regardless of whether you think they should or not, many people are simply not willing to spend lots of money on a single release. To put AoA's pricing into perspective, Viz are currently selling digital versions of all 72 volumes of the Naruto manga for less than $180. 72 volumes of Naruto or 10 hours of Fate/Stay Night, I'll leave you to work out which you think is better value for money,..

Tokyo Ghoul does seem weirdly meh given the amount of fans it has. I'm happy it sold really well for AL though :D, and I may pick up the standard edition to watch it uncensored.

You can already get MSG in the US so we 6 weeks behind and yeah i know I'm not the rule and the reason i moan because I'm willing to pay if for imports like if i watched GL before i got the AL set i could have easily went for the US set i didn't though i am also getting the AUS set. But I pay for what i want and i would much prefer faster higher quality more expensive releases to slow cheap ass sets like some we get from MVM thats why i hoped AL could get FSN but hey they couldnt.

I'm sure they talked about day and dating at some point. Never mind, we get a nice box and whatever the treats Andrew was talking about for part 2 are. We're clearly the winners in all this...

Also I hate digital manga i will be getting the three paperback sets for £100 each manga is much better physically

I was just pointing out the comparative absurdity of that price strategy, the fact you can pick up an entire long-running manga for less than a 27 episode TV series should be shameful. I wasn't actually suggesting people brought Naruto instead...

6 weeks isn't that bad. Hell, it takes me three weeks to receive anything from the US anyway. (I know there are places that ship early, but I do not trust them.)
