UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

As AL have pointed out before, it's not fair to compare their release plans on Aniplex titles with non-English speaking or non-American countries, as they are licensed by Aniplex directly, whereas pan-American territories and English-speaking territories have to go through Aniplex of America.

So, even if AL has both French and UK & Ireland rights, they won't have come from the same licensor.

Four Aniplex titles, all licensed by Anime Limited, have been added to Netflix in the US. Only one of them (Aldnoah.Zero) is available in the UK (the others are Durarara and X2, and SAO II)

Last time I checked US Netflix also had all Madoka movies and Expelled from Paradise so I think they just have all Aniplex titles :p

They also have the second Persona 3 movie but not the first, mindblown.

When are ATA planning to release Aldonah Zero considering it is now on Netflix?

They'll have to wait until at least January 2016. Aniplex's second volume is due for November and usually everyone else has to wait at least a month or two.

It'll be Q1 as waiting on assets etc still - Australia appears to be the same as it remains unscheduled there...

Authoring starts this week on Durarara!!!x2 and I've all the packaging assets so the fun begins :D.

Do you guys have to use the same crappy cover art the US and Japan got for Durarara!!x2?

I quite like the cover arts for x2. :p

The disc art could use something different but I don't mind if they have to use the same as the others.

Has it been confirmed anywhere how many parts you will be releasing it over?

I actually like the US versions cover art, I'll probably buy them if Anime Limited is doing it the same amount of parts.

I don't, all the characters look slightly off and it really annoys me. They seem to have been based off the LN's illustrations, rather than the anime and as a result they look slightly different to the character designs.

I think I'd be less bothered if they were further away from the character designs, it's the fact it's so close, but so far that winds me up.

Well, this is a personal thing but I quite like it when companies use more detailed art for the packaging rather than a direct representation of the animation style in the show. There are some examples which are sort of weird (the old Viz DVD covers for Ceres Celestial Legend used Watase Yuu's floaty shoujo art which looks incredible but nothing like the cheap anime style of the series itself). But then you have things like the Diabolik Lovers DVD cases in Japan, where the LE artwork uses the original illustrator's work and they look so much better than the anime designs that I can't open my wallet fast enough.

Nothing like the show's art style: http://www.amazon.co.jp/DIABOLIK-LOVERS ... 00KFSW58M/
The accurate version: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A2%E3%83 ... 00EF6TK74/

The Durarara!! x2 covers are supposedly by the anime's actual character designer, so while it looks as though he was going for a more stylised look to match Yasuda's illustrations I think if anything the television artwork is probably the thing falling short due to budget constraints. For what it's worth I really like the covers.

I'm sure they said before that each part will be split in 2, so 6 in total to cover Shou, Ten and Ketsu.

So DRR x2 was only released a few weeks ago and you got the assesses before AZ Which came out a few months ago. Thanks ANIPLEX

I wish Sora no Woto had used Kishida Mel's art on the covers, even if only as a reversible option.
looking at the Durarara x2 discs on CDJapan, the designs are very much in line with the original series (which were mirrored in the Beez DVDs). Ironically, while I can recognise that a show is based on his designs, I'm not overly familiar with Suzuhito Yasuda's own artwork.

I believe that was a rumour, and AL's only statement on the matter so far is that they don't know and won't speculate. (That was back when they first announced the licence, you'd hope they have at least a vague idea now.)

Reminds me of what happened with Steins;Gate - remember the uproar when Manga changed the covers from the full-detail character art to the super-moe shots of Kurisu?

Steady on, it's not their fault just sometimes contracts take longer or such :). We're on it though and it'll happen, just got to be patient sometimes I'm afraid!

Would be interested to know that too - How many eps is it per release? Is it half-cour sets?

The other reason this and AZ are taking longer is that I'm pushing for at least full cour sets. But that takes time and effort so hang with me, trying to make the best possible release we can for folks :).

Andrew

That's interesting to hear - for it's worth I'd definitely be in favour of full cour sets, even if it meant waiting a little bit longer.
