Anime Expo 2015 + SDCC News Thread

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Somebody find Andrew and demand an answer! Lol

Original Macross - well it's been released three times on dvd so the market may be tapped out, but the rest? Really????

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Never seen Gundam apart from the little bits I'd catch of Wing on Toonami back in the day so I have no care for the series and will not be getting the BD's, but Utena sounds cool and I might pick it up down the line. Maybe.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

The Funimation panel has ended and it was pretty much full of filler. The only new announcements that weren't leaked were the simulcasts for Venus Project: Climax and their involvement with the Dimension W anime adaptation.

I won't be up for NIS America so someone can announce it (starts 2am for Games, 4am for Anime).

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Huh, didn't expect Funimation to actually be on the production committee for a show anytime soon. I believe the trailer showed Bones as the animation studio (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe they decided to buddy up after working so closely with Space Dandy. Other than that, as said above, Funi's panel was a glorified advert for their new releases and streaming service.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Crowds reaction to Noragami seemed pretty positive. Just ordered the LE from up1usa off the back of that

It's apparently one of the best animes of 2014. I won't be surprised if the LE sells out.

Funnily enough, I will be doing the same. One of my friends told me the other day that the series is really good and I should give it a shot. Couldn't have come at a more convenient time to be honest.

Think they said they had some stock at the con so maybe up1usa will ship soon(ish?).

Wasn't it up1usa you were getting all your LE's early from?

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Wow, Nozomi, where on Earth did all that come from. Impressive.

The Pony Canyon Q&A sounds like it was downright bizarre.

Funimation Panel:
- *panel finally starting with Pretear theme - Pretear has been licensed by Funi but never released on home video*
Used to have the ADV release of Pretear, its a good little show if you like the your magical girl/harem/romance anime.

HOLY CRABSTICKS WITH SWEET POTATO SALAD!!!

Didn't I say there'd be Gundam?

And lo, the Gundam did come to pass, and it was voluminous in its abundance!

May not have to wait so long for news in the UK too ;).

Nozomi Entertainment announced new details on the Gundam franchise:
- Mobile Suit Gundam on Blu-ray
- Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
- Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
- Mobile Suit Victory Gundam
- After War Gundam X
- Turn A Gundam movie collection
Quite an amazing haul of Gundam licences, but will all the others be on BD too? I certainly hope so.

And will I have to fork out for either import taxes (or a trip to the US, which frankly might work out cheaper) to buy them, or will someone scoop these up for us here in the UK? Not that I'm looking intently in the direction of Anime Ltd. or anything.

i feel that look and will raise you an MCM Comic Con Manchester for more info.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

I was hoping for some news on Yuri Kuma Arashi & Barakamon from Funi. I've always passed on their LE's cause they're quite big and I don't have much space left but I'd jump at those two shows receiving the special treatment.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Recaps from NIS America panel:

Anime:
- The Pilor's Love Song coming to Blu-ray Premium Edition (2015 style) September 22nd.
- No new details on Love Live! Season 2's release but it's coming.

Games:

What's the story behind this? It's included on the Japanese Blu-Ray release, isn't it?

It's a poorly animated filler episode directed by Tomino that he basically thinks is so crap it detracts from the series. As for why it's left in in Japan I guess we can only speculate, but I suppose there would be a certain nostalgia factor there and fans might be upset if it weren't included, but it seems Tomino believes the show is better introduced to new audiences without that episode. Kind of like the particularly drunken night out you and your old friends can look back on and laugh but which you wouldn't relate to new ones.

It's easy enough to find if you do want to watch it, but you're really not missing much.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Wow at the Gundam stuff, and double wow at the hints of a UK release. I'd love to complete my collection by adding Turn-A, ZZ, X and Victory sets to it! Plus the original series on Blu-ray is certainly a very tempting prospect...

As for comments about nobody wanting Macross in the West? Utter crap. And I'm quite apalled - though not surprised - that Harmony Gold are resorting to 'you want this because we tell you so' tactics.

I think it's safe to say that there's probably more demand for the likes of Macross Frontier, Zero and the original series than there is for endless repackagings of Robotech and its shoddy (and infrequent) follow up movies. I seem to recall ADV already doing something to prove that point Stateside.

HG almost literally make my blood boil. I really wish Big West/Studio Nue would grow a pair and finally take them to the cleaners.

Seriously, how many times to HG need to learn the same lesson? There is very limited interest in anything Robotech at this point, as the lacklustre Shadow Chronicles movie and the lack of a sequel, and the recent aborted Kickstarter proved. What do they think is going to happen from here?

Re the original series' continued appeal - there's the blu rays that are out in Japan. I'd literally kill to have English-friendly versions of these as they look absolutely stunning, but again, thanks to HG we can kiss those goodbye and instead donate body parts to fund the imports which then have to be remuxed.

Thank you HG for your continued 'commitment' to the anime industry in the west....

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Is there a transcript of the panel or anything with that HG comment in context? Not that I'm trying to deny that they said it, but they seem to be strenuously denying it on twitter.
