Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Is 15m even long enough for panelists to sit down and stand up again at the Daisuki and Production IG "panels".

They actually overlap, at least a majority of them last an hour. Funimation's is 2 hours I think.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Main page has been updated with UK BST times. Today we should expect to see possibly Crunchyroll but definitely Sentai Filmworks and Viz Media panels.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Rightstuf will announce new titles at their panel, they have a hint to start off:
Hints and Notes from Shawne:
A found ring.
"Approved" and waiting the final paperwork. People will be pleased.
Something different in the retelling.
A negative and a positive.
Not sure about this one. Still likely a long shot.
Captured on film.
In training.

That makes more sense.

Next query has to be holy moly would I not want to listen to "Funimation" yabber on for two hours.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Reminder: Viz Media panel starts soon - 9:15pm to 10:15pm

I'll update the thread in case any additional announcements have been made.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Tokyopop <3 AX 2015 News:
Relaunch in 2016:
- "publishing relaunch" print and digital
- new manga, art books & collectors editions.
- our plan is start in 2016
- why start in 2016? it takes a while to get titles. we have to talk w/ publishers, asking to give us another chance.
- "as the publishing business has stabilized, there will hopefully be enough ppl to buy & sustain a publishing biz."
- "we are in talks w/ TV/film/game companies to do original manga based on properties, do stories in their sandbox"
- "the publishing world has changed. many JP companies already have US companies to publish their stories."
- "i promise if you pay attention over the next few weeks, we'll have news you'll be excited about." - stu levy
- Levy is talking about difficulty getting JP manga titles fr. top publishers like Shueisha, Shogakukan & Kodansha
- re: jp manga "we're going to find the hidden gems that are not yet famous." + "tell us abt your fave gems." - s. levy
- "we'll be more upfront about the licenses that we're after." we're in talks now & are close to announce new titles."
- TokyoPop Media - 20 properties in development. we're close to announcing a few shows. one is called "Knockouts."
- TP show "The Knockouts" is loosely based on "Battle Vixens." you can watch trailer on YouTube
- we're developing shows based on "Riding Shotgun." "its going to be huge in a few years"
- "we don't have that much money to spend on movies & TV deals -- we don't use publishing $ to develop film/tv deals."
- "it takes a long time to develop TV/film properties -- we will hopefully have something to show you next year."
- TP on social media via Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, YouTub to "engage TP community"
- TP is planning on showing videos of anime reviews via their resident "critaku" on their YouTube channel
- "we're looking for a clever title for our #critaku" show on our YouTube Channel - tweet it at us
- "pop comics" is an app - "ours will be focused on ppl who want to upload their own comics, like YouTube."
- "pop manga" self-publishing mobile app will launch w/ invite only beta. keep 100% of copyright
- comix uploaded to pop manga "we don't own it, we don't have right of first refusal."
- pop manga content is free to readers, ad-supported. 70% of ad revenue goes to creator
- "we won't be publishing more Hetalia manga after vol. 6 since creator has decided to step away fr. that series."
- Hetalia v. 6 is the last volume available in JP. the creator got an offer fr. Shueisha to do a series for ShonenJump
- Q&A time. Q: are you considering light novels? A: we did it in the past. but translation costs are higher than manga
- Q: are you going to publish classic TP titles? A: it depends on the JP side. it's not all up to us.
- Pop Comics is looking to be a worldwide comics platform -- not a play for TP to get IP.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Some of that Tokyopop news is actually pretty exciting. People tend to slam Western-originated manga, but tie-in stuff could be very cool. Their StarCraft stuff of a few years back was very cool. And it had one of the best stories of Simon Furman's career outside of Transformers comics.

Could be some very interesting stuff afoot!

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

I bet Manga are rubbing their hands in glee at the though of a BluRay Death Note box.

In all seriousness though, I'd love to upgrade my set, as the existing Manga DVD box is stupidly big.

Also, reading that Tokypop stuff is interesting, but I just can't take them seriously - more original Western stuff? Nope, not for me. It almost seems like they're admitting defeat already re. New Japanese licenses. Ie. Everyone else is doing it already and doing a better job than we could hope to.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

I'd also be up for replacing my incredibly large Death Note DVD set. Great show that I definitely wouldn't hesitate buying again on Blu Ray.

Are you sure about that? No HD master exists for the show, and we all know what happened when Viz gave the job of upscaling DVD masters so subatomic digital. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a massive pile of shite again. Viz are getting as bad, if not worse than Kaze when it comes to quality as of late. It's nice to see Viz picked up the second season of K though. I imported the JP BD for the movie so I can't say I'm in a rush to pick it up, and I hear Kaze will most likely have it for the UK so there won't exactly be a great version available.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

LotGH...dang that might end up saving me around a grand haha. Thanks Sentai!

Well I'll see how it is before buying then. I had no idea they've botched something similar up before.

Re: Anime Expo 2015 News Thread

Can't say I feel desperately inclined to buy it, but I think it's nice that someone is finally taking a punt on LoGH at last.
