UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

I noticed Southampton got stiffed YET AGAIN with Summer Wars and Wolf Children cinema showings.
Both Picturehouse and Showcase are showing them elsewhere though!
Strongly worded email sent to Showcase, I'll let Picturehouse off as they only have 2 screens, but Showcase has them in double figures!
None of my local cinemas in Colchester has them either. I ended up going to the Norwich Odeon for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and I'll be going to the Norwich Vue for Summer Wars. I don't know if I have a shift for Wolf Children, so I haven't booked anything for that. I've been to Norwich for general visits more than a few times, so it's no problem if I have to go to Norwich for a film.

Norwich from Colchester is further than I would have to do. 60 odd miles is dedication!
Only 20 odd to Portsmouth for me, but who what's to go there!

Is a real shame Colchester hasn't shown any of these, I adore these movies as well so would've loved to see them on the big screen, especially The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

Likewise here in Hull, our Cineworld (who I’m an Unlimited member for) never shows anime and very rarely will Odeon or Vue.

1hr drive to Sheffield or Leeds usually and for the extra cost it hard to justify.

@Hanners what is the situation with Kakegurui Season 2? In 2021 AL said said that people have nothing to worry about regarding them releasing Kakegurui's second season only to never release it. Like, people expressed worry about AL not releasing Kakegurui's second season due to AL having a track record of not licensing and releasing second seasons of March Comes in Like a Lion and Amanchu and AL said "Let's just say you don't have anything to worry about in that regard in Kakegurui's case" only to never give any updates or news regarding the release of second season and then just never releasing it. Has the license for season 2 expired or has AL just given up on ever releasing it?

I reckon there's about as much chance of anyone from AL addressing what the hell happened with Kakegurui s2 as there is them addressing why we got pretty much every Gundam under the sun bar 0080 and 08th MS team, two of the most well regarded series in the franchise.

Once AL decide that - for whatever reason - they're not engaging on a particular issue, that be that. Prove me wrong, Hanners, I dare you.

I did post about Gundam just a few days ago, so those thoughts still stand. ;) For those two titles specifically, there's still plenty of appetite for us to release them, but there are a whole other bunch of factors in terms of what we release when, and as mentioned in that previous post each title is it's own individual license, so it's not just a bucket of Gundam that we dip our hand into so much as individual titles to license, which is where those other factors come into play.

On Kakegurui Season 2, that's also something that gets a "number of factors" answer, as what seemed straightforward enough in 2021 has turned out not to be the case, and there's really not anything else to be said about it publicly at this point.

Honestly, these both fall into some hard lessons being learned on our side about what we talk about publicly and when, so at this point we'll usually only talk about plans for things when they're as locked down and confirmed as they can possibly be, so any changes will usually be relatively short delays rather than anything more significant or long-winded.

@Hanners I'm very excited for Carole & Tuesday, and with the previous announcement on Devilman Crybaby, do you think we will see a continuing trend of "streaming jail" anime start to become available for home release licensing, or is this just a couple of lucky escapees?

Also just want to say thanks to someone for Her Blue Sky because I adored it at SLA and I had given up hope!

(Not that I expect you to be able to say anything but Id love A Whisker Away, Drifting Home, Blue Period, Summertime Rendering and The Tatami Time Machine Blues one-day!)

I think it depends - if it's a strong title then there's certainly a desire for us to pursue it, but there are always holdbacks and the like to factor in when it comes to streaming titles on these platforms, and also things like dub access etc to consider too. Ultimately, we always want to release great content when it's available for us to do so, and there are certainly titles along those lines that we keep a keen eye on!

Any reason why the movies you put out in cinema only a handful of cities get them? Mainly london? Surely if you have some sort of deal with odeon you would screen them all over the country? Im guessing a miku who cant sing will also be a handful of cities?

I bought Arcane S2 i CE edition, due to fact that looks amazing, I remember how quick S1 was sell out (and I almost didn't manage to buy it) and my membership will be disappearing in next 2 days.

I've done the same. I actual missed out last time but got it when they did a small restock from cancelled preorders. Not waiting this time, plus as you said there is the membership discount too which helps bring it down a bit more.
