UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Oh nice. The best Gundam OVA and seriously the worst missed opportunity for AL imo.
I just fail to believe 9 years(!) in it hasn't been possible to have it ready for a UK release. I'm not discounting things like BBFC rating fees or anything, but it’s a short Gundam themed OVA set at Christmas. Work on it earlier in the year, drop it in time for Christmas, give a UK release to a great OVA in its own right AND win good karma with the hardcore Gundam fans going into the following year (which on this occasion, will mark a decade).

I'm hardly asking for the moon on a stick by persisting with this.

Speak for yourself, I demand lunar icecream now! :< (Jk, and I agree with you) :)

A few things that caught my eye from the Ask Andrew stream:
  • More Gundam in 2025's roadmap, including potential for 4K. Something happened for the 2024 schedule hence the slower turnout.
  • The Night is Short, Walk on Girl's license was renewed so there is room to potentially offer a new release with the GKIDS English dub.
  • Andrew is currently in the process of hoping to clear the rights to secure the Netflix English dub for Devilman Crybaby, with the show currently planned to release in mid-2025.
  • It's up to the streaming platforms if they want to make Love Live! available for UK streaming.
  • Blood: The Last Vampire is confirmed for 4K.
  • Perfect Blue 4K screening is also causally confirmed for next year.
  • EUREKA: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution is scheduled for early next year.
  • "Stay tuned" for the Lupin the IIIrd Koike Trilogy (Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Blood Spray, Fujiko's Lie).
  • Cardcaptor Sakura the Movie 1 is why Anime Limited held off on releasing The Sealed Card all this time. They secured the rights for the second film years back (2018) but not the first film so they wanted to have both before moving forward, so stay tuned on that.
  • Andrew would love to release the BLEACH and Naruto films. They don't have them currently.
  • Andrew confirms there are reasons why Disney+ exclusive anime titles have yet to be released for home video outside Japan, but for reasons he can't delve into them. A little bit more complicated than other platforms. He's a fan of Heavenly Delusion and Summertime Rendering.

I mean, we've had this before. They promised a lot of Gundam a few years back, it didn’t happen and we were later told plans had to change.

I'm not saying this isn't true or that it's Anime Limited's fault, but how many more times will it happen? Given next year will be a decade of them handling things here, I hope we're not facing something like the 45th anniversary in 2019 where they just fastracked everything with previous BBFC rating onto Blu-ray.

(And yes, I understand all those titles were new to certain people.)

And if we're getting more of it in 4K, will they at least make sure booklets don't go to print with massive errors?

I'd be curious how AL would deal with the Shippuden movies (if they were to get them); whether they would release them in groups maybe or a complete set.

I paid £37 for the complete Shippuden movie set (7 films, including Boruto the movie) from Australia, so not sure if I'll have the appetite to buy them again for jacked up prices.

Watching the VOD. Fair play to Andrew for acknowledging fan frustration on Gundam.

As for dropping a colony on them...well, one canonically hit Dublin with minimum damage. Though going full brunt with one on Glasgow might be doing Scotland a favour...

(I have direct Glaswegian heritage, I can say that!)

time to post this again (although it's more of an accurate depiction of the annual rainfall!)

Need more context on this, doesn't it imply HE or at least Anime Limited has signed an NDA with Disney otherwise why would he be bound by it?
