Rightstuf's summer sale has been on-going and I wanted to make at least two big orders whenever possible, and it is a shame that the discount codes won't work during this sale but at least I can get some decent deals along the way.

2020-09-08 (51).png

This first order is focused solely on Sentai Filmworks because I want to try and catch up on their releases as much as I can, similarly to Funimation, but the challenge here is that Sentai's prices aren't the best so its hard to jump in whenever possible. The exchange rate is decent but not great so now was an alright time to sort out a new batch. For context it was roughly this time last year that I had ordered some Sentai titles during their sale so it's good timing I suppose as well.

Now granted you are best holding off until the Christmas sale to get some better deals, but what we have right now is roughly the same as Sentai's summer sale. There was also stock issues on a number of titles so there were some that didn't make the cut, most notably And Yet the Town Moves which must have spiked in sales due to Heavenly Delusion.

So here we have 8 Blu-ray releases, which in total costed me a lot but according to my notes I saved almost £100 against UP1 so that's not too bad. The haul was split into two groups; the newer releases, and the re-releases which are older titles that have been re-authored with some amendments including revised translations and sub layouts whenever possible so it's worth looking into these versions if you had yet to own them.

For the newer releases we have Monster Girl Doctor, Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, and YA BOY KONGMING!

I am a fan of Monster Girl Doctor's anime so I wanted to own the series on Blu-ray, while many had overlooked it I liked the premise and the cast is interesting. I have the novels so I can read the rest of the story. Then we have the 'fanservicey new ecchi show' that I was curious to check out with Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, so there's nothing else that needs to be said there. Last but not least we have YA BOY KONGMING! which is considered to be one of the best shows in recent years, so I look forward to it. Probably the highlight of this haul.

For the re-releases we have Broken Blade, BTOOOM!, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Gugure! Kokkuri-san, and PUNCH-LINE.

Now you might see this line-up and go "hang on a sec, Broken Blade and PUNCH-LINE have UK Blu-ray releases" which is true, but they have been re-released in recent years by Sentai so those old UK releases are pretty much redundant especially with Broken Blade as that was a 10 year old disc which could do with some updates (and the cover art was not particularly appealing for my shelf to begin with). Broken Blade is also a mecha series animated by both Production I.G & Xebec so it's one that I wanted to check out as well. Meanwhile I have seen PUNCH-LINE when it first aired and it's a great underrated show by the creator of Zero Escape if you have not yet checked it out, I highly recommend it.

Next we have two shows that had also received UK releases but only on DVD, and were re-released in recent years too. BTOOOM! is one of the few anime that I had watched before I joined the legal streaming venture, and its a fun battle royale with grenades series so I was happy that it got re-released since the previous set came out a decade ago. Whereas Dusk Maiden of Amnesia I've heard a lot over the years and now was a good opportunity finally watch it. I know the original release included OSTs so the music must have stood out to get that sort of treatment.

And then we have Gugure! Kokkuri-san, because I heard its a solid comedy series so I look forward to it.

There we have it. Fun fact I almost added Rent-A-Girlfriend limited edition but I decided it wasn't worth it as it would have made the shipping and VAT even more expensive therefore I replaced it with three more titles instead. To Love Ru was also tempting but it literally just came out so there's plenty of time to revisit it.

I'm tempted to add the first two to my second RightStuf sale order, and I've never heard of the third one so I may check it out as well. Do you (or anyone else) know if they will hold them all until my pre-order of Sgt Frog 3-4 is released in September or send them in two batches?

As far as I am aware, international orders will be held until all items in the order are in stock. So in other words, your Sgt Frog item will put the order on-hold (Discotek titles tend to arrive 1 month early so your order would ship out around late August or so).

Right, that's IT until Christmas (a rash promise).
RightStuf B'day sale second order:
Princess Tutu Blu-ray $13.13
Those Who Hunt Elves Blu-ray $21.86
Kakuriyo Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Complete Series Blu-ray $41.99
The Familiar of Zero Complete Series Blu-ray $27.5
Seitokai Yakuindomo Movie 2 Blu-ray $14.99
Sgt. Frog Seasons 3 & 4 Blu-ray $41.97 (You saved: $6.30) $35.67
Ranma 1/2 DVD Set 1 (Hyb) $14.34

Tutu and Ranma are presents, Elves and Zero are upgrades. I saved 15% on one item with my discount code! But they work out at an average of £30 each, which is not too bad considering.

how nostalgic, I read the manga and novel omnibuses (omnibi?) over a decade ago but never got around to watching the anime.
another one to add to the ever growing wants list.
I already owned the (now out of print) novel set, and I am afraid now that I also own the anime my collectors brain will compel me to get the OOP manga set too just for completion's sake. The manga was cancelled too so I think there's only two volumes.

You said you weren't and I felt so sorry for you that I was going to offer to buy Seitokai movie 2 for you. I'd charge you of course 😃.

Yuuna of the Hot Springs DOTW.
Because I only have one copy.
What if something happened to it and I couldn't access the Yuuna fanservice?

I mentioned it before that I wanted to sort out a second order through Rightstuf's summer sale and now I have done so. But this time we have one title that currently isn't part of the sale but is currently going out of print.

The title I'm talking about is Hayate the Combat Butler, a long-running shonen series that has four seasons and a movie compiled into one ultimate collection by Sentai Filmworks. While the individual seasons are somewhat still around, it's the complete collection that is my preference as it shares the same packaging design as the Patlabor re-release and would be the more recent discs approach.

While it's true that this could take part in the sale, I am convinced that people, including resellers and Blu-ray forum individuals, are waiting for that opportunity so I decided to use one of my 15% discount codes (on top of my 10% GotAnime) to get the price down close enough to what it could go for and order it now. It's not cheap, which is why I reduced the items for this haul.

As for the rest of the haul, I call it "fanservice featuring mature themes" - Demon King Daimao, Infinite Stratos Season 1, Made in Abyss Theatrical Collection, Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time and Queen's Blade: Rebel Warriors collection.

Demon King Daimao, much like Broken Blade, is one of Sentai's first Blu-ray titles and had a surprise re-release in recent years which got my attention even further. Infinite Stratos Season 1 is also another older title of Sentai's to get a re-release, which is interesting in itself as Season 2 seems to be strictly exclusive to the replica limited edition box set (which I do own) and so instead of a complete collection set it's just the first season, which I suppose is a benefit for me in this case, so it's nice to be able to finally start the franchise with this set.

Made in Abyss Theatrical Collection is an oddity as MVM have released Dawn of the Deep Soul, but I was disappointed they didn't want to release the compilation films so I wanted to get this version so that I have them.

Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time is the only series in this batch that I have watched prior, and it is no doubt a questionable series but it's dumb enough that I wanted to own it and it's a shorter show so pricing-wise it wasn't too bad. And speaking of ecchi, I finally get to own something out of the Queen's Blade franchise with Queen's Blade: Rebel Warriors collection which includes the Beautiful Warriors OVAs as well as the Queen's Blade: Rebellion series which was also released first on Blu-ray back in 2013.

Funny enough both Infinite Stratos and Queen's Blade: Rebellion each included OSTs in their original releases, but with my experience looking at Sentai's OST library it's most background music and not to my tastes so I'm not bothered by missing out on them in all honestly.
