i want to get my mum in to other anime

i want her to watch

the count of monte cristo
romeo X juliet
spice and wolf
baccano
vampire knights
giant robo
and a few others

but it'll take ages til we finish FMA BH, we still have the FMA BH movie to get though and the mini episode, and 50 episodes of the main series,

Code Geass R2 Episode 10-17

This is a series I have to sit down and make sure I give my full attention too, and when I do I just can't stop watching. It really is brilliant. Also, loving the beautiful drawings by CLAMP during the ending songs. They're a real treat to look at.

Mardock Scramble: The First Compression
Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion

I'd heard a lot of comments about The Second Combustion not being as good as The First Compression and to be honest, I have to disagree with them. Maybe it was because I watched both films back-to-back instead of with a gap of a year or so, but I thought they really connected well. I imagine the people who thought this liked the more action orientated side of the first film, whereas for me the focus was always on Rune Balot. I saw the first film as her being thrown into the situation, with this one being where she had to pick up the pieces of that. I also never felt that the casino segment was long, because it had the fantastic symbolic use of the roulette table. (Also, was that Ben from Tiger & Bunny at one of the tables?!).

I so hope we don't have to wait long for The Third Exhaust though!

Mardock Scramble 2. I have literally no idea if I just watched the standard or director's cut, the menu is so confusing. In any case I was enjoying the film well enough through the first half of the film, then the director suddenly decides to turn it into Casino Royale and I just got left behind (I know there was supposed to be a point to that roulette table stuff but it went right over my head) and the obsession with eggs is getting silly now. The trailer for the third (and last?) film gave a release date of september 2012 (for japanese cinema presumably) so I would expect it to get released here next year and I'll rewatch the first two films again then, hopefully I'll 'get' the whole gambling thing a bit better then.

Yeah, I found the menu a lot more confusing than the first film's too. Although when I went into the special features bit, I found out that the standard cut is hidden as a special feature.

With the roulette table stuff, I got the impression that the main moral was turning negatives into positives, which reflects on Rune Balot's situation - she was killed by Shell and has been saved. With being saved, she has gained new abilities but more importantly, people she can trust. I feel that what Balot was taught was, although a situation may look bleak and you may feel the world is against you, you can turn it around and make it spin the other way.

I guess that makes sense, I just need to remember that when I watch it again next year.

Today, Gundam Seed Destiny disc 5. I've been busy the last few weeks so I've fallen a long way behind on my anime viewing but now I can get back to normal. :)
