tenchi muyo ryo ohki disc 2
black butler disc 6

tomorrow

black butler OVAs was fun to watch i think the 2nd or 3rd was about the characters and what they thought about a season 2 that episode was funny

Rewatched Itchy Strawberry Marsh Marrow this afternoon. I felt like I needed a laugh and had forgotten just how top-notch the comedy was ("Sasazuka, stand in the hallway" almost had me on the floor in stitches despite having seen it before). The DVDs upscale beautifully as well. It's a shame it was only distributed for a relatively short period of time due to Geneon's untimely demise, it's a show that really deserves to be available again for new fans.

I love Strawberry Marshmallow. Miu is evil incarnate, in the best possible sense. She represents the dark desire we all have to ceaselessly annoy everyone around us.

I heard the show didn't do too well for Geneon, which isn't all that surprising given its "cute" aesthetic. Unfortunately it meant that a lot of people got the wrong idea and missed out on a really sharply written sitcom.

The manga went down with Tokyopop as well =(

Miu is great. That's a very similar reason to why I love Tomo from AzuDai as well, the scene where she grabs the keys to Chiyo's summer house, throws them into the long grass and just stands there smiling is one of my all time favourite comedy moments.

And haven't you at least watched You're Under Arrest Fabio? I poured my heart and soul into those verging-on-thousand-word posts and not a single comment from anybody. I'm starting to feel like a mutual acquaintance of ours (not that I've talked to him in a long time - he's probably a well adjusted bank clerk with a mortgage and a young family by now).

Alas, I haven't watched any You're Under Arrest beyond the OVAs. I don't think I could cope with the drop-off in animation quality between the OVA and TV series, and the whole thing just seems a bit too nice and sanitised for my cynical tastes. Needs more death, or infidelity, or just some boobs. I worry that YUA is to the police procedural what Fujishima's Ah! My Goddess is to romantic comedy - Zzz, in other words.

But even though I didn't comment, I did read your essa--er, review, and I'm sure others did too. It's just that YUA has never really been all that popular, most likely because it lacks the elements I mentioned above =P

And you wouldn't be far wrong. I chose YUA over AMG because with the setting it seemed like there was more potential for it to be interesting (also car/motorbike porn... and uniforms... and Natsumi). I'll soldier on into the later seasons since I did pay for them, but I don't think I'll be bothering with AMG now.

Azumanga Daioh 1-5

Thought I'd rewatch...okay, Mr. Kimura is still the most hilarious character ever. Getting a substitute to watch over his class just so he can sit in and watch the girls swimming, then sit there like he's totally focused.

Then sat there crying when he was thrown out of the pool. This is just too damn much, I'll die of laughter xD

Also, there's this exchange:
Tomo: Why did you decide to become a high school teacher?.
Kimura: BECAUSE I LIKE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS, THAT'S WHY! xD.

Also...he looks just like a maths teacher at my old school.

I read them too, but yeah - not much I could really add.

I watched a fair bit of YUA on the French channel (as "Équipières de choc"), before I finally picked up a couple of the OAVs in English. While I enjoyed the artwork and the attention to detail, the show felt decidedly less interesting when I actually understood what was going on.

It's one of those things that I'd happily watch if it were streamed, on tv or even shown at an anime club, but I wouldn't like to spend a lot of money on owning it.

One of my friends has AMG though and I'm tempted to give that a shot out of morbid curiosity.

Madlax - Up to episode 20

This is probably the slowest series I've watched in anime - it only starts to get going at around episode 16. Liking it better now than previously, but I think Bee Train could have condensed it all easily into a very good 13 episode series, instead of dragging it out into 26 episodes.

GAIIIIIKINNNGGGG - Complete - Sure, you could tell it was a kids show, but i enjoyed it, and ain't ashamed to say so. Was great fun. I do love the design of Gaiking as well, always have. I'd recommend it to anyone that has an interest in mecha. Also Gaiking the Great is pretty epic. And i like how they end it very much open. If they wanted to, they could start a new series after it all.

Also got in the latest Space Brothers episode. Now just catching up with everything else i missed over the expo weekend whilst i was away in london.

To quote Wikipedia,
Miu is nicknamed "Mi-chan". Miu has been described as "Yotsuba Koiwai with fangs".

Not read much of the Strawberry Marshmallow manga but the anime is very funny.

Current viewing,
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episodes 25 & 26

Oh Edo Rocket Episodes 15 & 16

Airgear Episodes 3 - 5

Baka & Test 1-4

This is a fun show that's somewhat dragged down by stale romantic comedy elements. Two girls making boxed lunches for the male lead, like good potential waifus! One of them is a terrible cook! The other one is a tomboy with a propensity for violence! Nosebleeds! lol!!!1

Even the delightful Ayana Taketatsu can't salvage anything of the awful lesbian character who showers the tomboy with plainly unwanted attention (and the male lead with, yes, more violence).

Other times the comedy is actually funny, though - I think I've mentioned hand-table before, while Shouko forcing Yuuji to sit through the longest films ever made, twice on the bounce, is always amusing - and the avatar battles put an interesting spin on what would otherwise be fairly standard anime wackiness.

I think she's better described as Satan's daughter - with fangs =P
