This made me uncomfortable to be honest but I'm gonna give it a chance and hope it improves.

Demon Slayer episode 1
Good first episode. Looking forward to this one.

Joshi Kausei episode 1
I thought it was bit average but seeing as its so short it could just be a light palette cleanser between shows.

Midnight Occult Civil Servants episode 1 This looked like a series that could be interesting. Sort of reminded me a bit of Phantom in the Twilight from a few seasons back.

Not quite what I was expecting, but an interesting first episode.

This looks like an intriguing show. I'm interested to see where it goes.

Well, I'm not going to lie but this was just LEWD as HELL. Yep this is going to be my seasonal guilty pleasure for obvious reasons. 😉😜

Boogiepop and Others ep1-3

Really had no idea what to expect from this series, but it certainly got my attention - I understand the comparisons with Paranoia Agent, although what immediately sprang to my mind was Lain, if Lain, but horror. My only slight reservation is that, while I particularly liked the puzzle box-style narrative construction, after finishing the first arc, I can't help wondering if I'd have liked it as much without that. Some of the character motivations were a little too hazy for my liking, certainly compared to similar-ish beats in (the apparently not as recent as I thought) Inuyashiki.

Definitely going to stick with it anyway.

Got about 5 mins in before turning it off. This just isn't appealing to me at all.

RobiHachi Episode 1 (Dropped)
I really did not like this at all. It reminds me way to much of Space Dandy.

Things I've watched lately, part 1:

Punchline eps 1–12 (complete)
I thoroughly enjoyed this. To me, it's like a bit of a blend of Kill la Kill and FLCL. The writing's fantastic, because all the seemingly random components of the story actually serve a purpose!

Space Adventure Cobra
I enjoyed this a lot more than I might've anticipated at some point in the past. There's unavoidable old-school casual chauvinism in here, it being a product of the '80s and all, but if you can accept that that's how it is and just go along for the ride, it's a really well-structured film. I always knew I was going to enjoy the visual side of it: it's directed by Osamu Dezaki, after all. Can we crown him the "Sultan of Sakuga" or something? 😁

First Squad
This Japan/Russia co-production was another one that stood up better than I anticipated. It was the DVD version I watched, so it doesn't include the "documentary" segments I once read about. There's no Japanese audio track on the disc either, so I watched it in Russian with English subs for the sake of authenticity. Also, I'd feel a bit lost watching anime with no subtitles to read. 😅
