Heavy Object - Episode 01
20 minutes of set-up and 3:40 of stupid pointless crap the show could do without. I think there was more plot in the preceding 7 second FUNimation logo than there was in the actual show, and the dialogue between the Qwenthur and Havia was clunky as all hell. It's weird because they spend almost an entire episode just on back story and the actual set-up is way less complicated than the show thinks it is and could quite adequately have been summed up in a 30 second VO.
It does however give off a lot of potential, and I'd maybe suggest people wait and see what the reaction to future episodes is before deciding whether or not to watch it, if they're currently on the fence about it. The show's designs are great, even if the Objects themselves are a bit bland looking, and there's some great CGI integration in there too.
I was slightly put off by was the ambiguous prologue at the end that basically comes from nowhere, where Qwenthur and Havia are walking in the mountains and they're randomly attacked by objects, is that supposed to actually have happened currently or is that a flashforward to something that's about to happen? It kinda came across like somebody realised that the entire episode was full of set-up and added it in a last minute panic to get people to come back for the second episode.
Also, that's a hell of a long and quite frankly stupid set up for an out of place and not very funny breast fondling joke. Just stop perving on women and actually do some bloody sci-fi. I'm told Index and Railgun were killer for this as well, but if they don't tone it down or make it a hell of a lot less clunky, I may be out.
