Hunter x Hunter-Episodes 131-135

Episode 131: Wow. Just wow. That was an absolutely amazing, 10/10 episode. So much raw emotion packed into this episode and the part where it went into high contrast black and white with red was just sublime, I love it when shows experiment with different art styles and techniques throughout the show. This also really highlights the massive contrast in tone between the start of the show and the end. Like, if I'd seen episode 1 of the show and then you told me later there was a scene where Gon pulverises a skull into dust with his bare knuckles and then keeps punching the bloody remains on the floor I'd be tempted to not believe you. I really wonder where the show is going to go from here because if what Pitou assumed was correct and Gon loses the ability to use Nen then I have no idea how the last arc will play out of the end of this one for that matter.

Episode 133: I wonder why Palm can say with such certainly the King is going to die. Did she gain some prophetic powers now? I'm intrigued. Also didn't expect Youpi to die so easily.

Episode 135: If there was one thing I wasn't expecting for this arc it was a touching, heartfelt ending. Well I suppose it isn't technically over yet but I suspect the next episode will be the transition episode between the two arcs.

Yeah, that episode is pretty damn incredible.

I really like how in this part Gon essentially becomes the bad guy - I certainly wasn't rooting for him anyway. His anger consumes him so much that he essentially stops being human, and Pitou is presented in a far more human light - as the healer, against Gon's absolute, unwavering rage. I suppose it also flags up the futility of war - if everyone is always seeking revenge for a life taken, where does the cycle of killing end? But yeah, the scene where he punches Pitou's head into a bloody pulp is easily the most violent thing I've ever seen in a shonen series and major kudos to the anime for not censoring it.

Also, I'm not sure if I was ever able to verify this - but unless I'm much mistaken, Pitou is only person Gon has actually killed up to this point? Everyone else he's just knocked out or Killua has killed for him.

I think that's right. I'd actually not thought about that. It gives the scene more impact in hindsight.

Non Non Biyori Repeat Episode 12.

This was quite an interesting episode. For the most part it was almost reminiscing about what we've enjoyed about the show but in a way that didn't feel like it was just repeating things. It's not a clip show or anything, it just seems to be designed to highlight stuff you probably like about watching the show by making references to past events along with what's going on now. I guess in some ways it's really not doing anything different than usual, maybe just the fact that it's the last episode of the season makes it feel that way.

You could maybe say that the episode is also about moving forward, there might have been a lot of fun behind us but we can hope there'll also be more fun ahead. I quite liked the reference to the events of the first episode (before Hotarun had even arrived) and the way it subtly highlights the passage of time. Subtlety seemed to be the watchword for the episode, though I suppose it often has been for the show in general.

I'm really going to miss Non Non Biyori. I'd love for there to be more in the future, although I guess there will ultimately be a point where it might be best to let it end. It's tough to say when that would be though, I could certainly see at least another season or two working out.

Continuity fans might be happy to know that this episode is almost entirely set after the end of the first season, so at least we got to see a bit of what happens afterwards.

I wonder if Hika-nee is secretly super popular or something, she's appeared in quite a few episodes this season and even gets some decent time at the end here. I have no complaints but I do find it interesting. I'd have expected Kaede to be the most popular outside of the main four (or Suguru maybe, he get's some of the best lines).

Yeah that film series has scarred me in some ways when I was younger, had nightmares for days and I'm quite frightened when I'm on a plane and they take off...

Isn't the whole point that you have to have cheated death? If you haven't had a near death experience any time soon, you should be fine

Hunter x Hunter-Episode 136

And that is the proper ending to the Chimera Ant arc. I must say, this arc has been absolutely phenomenal. I'd say it's tied with the YorkNew Arc as the best arc of the show. Whilst I think this arc had higher highs than the YorkNew Arc, it also had lower lows whereas YorkNew was more consistent, which is probably not surprising considering the mammoth size of this arc which takes up almost a third of the show IIRC. I thought the training stuff was a little tired in this arc, especially considering Greed Island had a bunch of training too and not to mention it had quite a few episodes devoted to it too. That's pretty much the only complaint I have with the arc. The new characters, especially the Royal Guard ants and the King, are some of the best characters in this show so far and the attack on the Palace is a series highlight in terms of action sequences. Absolutely superb.

I do wonder what kind of tone this next arc will take. I suspect it will be a shade lighter than the last arc as I'm not sure you could go much darker. I also wonder if Gon will be in this arc much at all seeing as he is hospitalised. I hope he is, it would be sad if the main character of the show wasn't present for it's final episodes. I'm also going to hope Leorio and Kurapika come back in some capacity and that the Phantom Troupe story is wrapped up somehow. Since the end of Greed Island their story hasn't been touched upon despite making a brief appearance in the Chimera ant arc. I'm not holding my hopes up given how the end of the show isn't the end of the story and the manga is ongoing.

Yeah, the irony is that even though the HxH mangaka finally got round to doing some more material last year, he went on hiatus again after only two months, so in the end there are literally only about 10 chapters of the manga that aren't covered in the anime.

Non Non Biyori Repeat-Episode 12 Complete

Well that was a good episode. Really sad this show finished, it was just a really nice, heartwarming, occasionally funny and just really fun and relaxing show, not to mention really pretty. I couldn't ask for anything more from a SOL. A season 3 would be nice but even if there isn't I'm still glad we got 2 seasons.

Hunter x Hunter-Episode 137

Cameos! Pretty happy to see a lot of people make brief appearances from the first arc. Bisky also appeared to have her twin drills back AND there was a bunny girl. 10/10 episode :p

Yu-Gi-Oh GX (Subbed)-Episode 28

Overlord (Japanese audio) - Episodes 11-12

One more episode left :(

That entire scene with Pandora's Actor was hilarious.

EDIT: Someone actually made a 1 hour version of Ainz buffing up. Cracks me up.
