I quite enjoyed the film, I thought it was kind of trippy and quite deep at times.

Yeah, it was the psychedelic atmosphere that really stuck in my mind as well - it's like the animated equivalent of one of those pulp sf novel covers from the 1970s. I also think it's one of the best showcases for Osamu Dezaki's directing style.

Hunter x Hunter-Episodes 65-67

Episode 65: Wow, they could have EASILY turned Killua talking to those Kirikos into a recap episode if they wanted to. I'm very glad they didn't.

Episode 66: Killua absolutely destroying the Hunter exam was very satisfying to watch.

Durarara!! - Episode 01-12

Sat down to watch one episode, and before I knew I'd wasted the entire day. Damn that blasted feature that autoplays the next episode. I blame AL.

But I did notice an intriguing anomaly, present in the light novels and the series, which is weird for a series that has it's timeline in order. Mikado says that he'd never left his hometown before moving to Tokyo, but Mika says she sat next to him in the entrance exams. Did the school accept him, and did he move house, before he had even taken his entrance exams? That seems risky.

To prove I'm not making this up, here's the relvant quotes from the LN:
"I was the girl sitting right next to you during our exams! The boy on my right had this crazy name like Ryuugamine,"

"It was his first-ever trip to Ikebukuro on the invitation of an old friend. To be more precise, it was his first trip to Tokyo at all— not just Ikebukuro— in his sixteen years of life. He’d never been outside of the town where he grew up, and he’d stayed home for his class field trips in both elementary and middle school. He knew it was no way to go through life— and then he got accepted at a private high school in the Toshima Ward of Tokyo."

Watched the first 12 episodes of welcome to the NHK over the past few days. Really interesting show that has given me an insight in to a lifestyle I know little about (though which is surprisingly similar to mine lol!)

Space Cobra - Episodes 1 - 4 (out of 31) (1982)
So I just got done watching the first 4 episodes of Space Cobra. It's been a long time coming and I've wanted to watch it for years but since I got the BD recently I thought that now's as good as any other to jump in. Now I'd usually try to be all eloquent and talk a bit about the show with some cold hard facts...but holy ******* **** this show is absolutely incredible. Bloody hell I have tears in my eyes and a huge grin on my face. This show, its everything I hoped it would be. The best way to describe this show is a mix of Takrajima art-style with Dezaki's post card memories and painterly visuals topped with a stunning jazzy soundtrack, hot babes and the slickness of City Hunter with an equally lovable protagonist, just man what an amazing show. Jesus this could end up being in my top 5 if it continues. The voice acting is incredible, the show is just oozing character and damn the ED has my heart fluttering with butterfly's in my stomach, I think...this is what it feels like to fall in love.

I really like Cobra, it's one of my favourite shows. Are you watching it in English, as a matter of curiosity? I just ask as I wasn't aware of there being an English-equipped BD out there.

If you're enjoying the series though, and you like Dezaki (as I rather suspect you do), I'd highly recommend checking out the film at some stage. It adapts the same Royal Sisters arc that makes up the first part of the tv version, but it has quite a different take on the material, pushing away from the 'Lupin in space' setup into something more psychedelic and dream-like. I say this so much it's practically a mantra, but I think it's also one of the best examples of what Dezaki was capable of doing as a director, when given the right material and sufficient resources to properly indulge his distinctive style.

Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. I do indeed intend to watch the film too, I just always find it strange where to start so I decided to start with the TV series so I can get accustomed to the world, the characters and such so then I can further enjoy the film, just like I did with Patlabor and DYRL :) The movie sounds really interesting, very excited to watch it once I wrap up the TV Series. Like you said, I'm a fan of Dezaki and I really feel at home with this series. Really does feel like Dezaki's City Hunter and who'd have thunk it, I really like that type of series!

As for the BD, I imported it but as you'd expect it's not English friendly so I've had to remux it myself. Bit of work, sure, but it looks great. Thanks again!

Honestly that moment was excellent.[/spoilerbutton]

Watched Episode 19 of My Love Story/Ore Monogatari.

Another really great episode this. It was nice to see some development for Takeo's parents.

I wasn't entirely sure which way things would go, I probably should have guessed but I guess I got a bit caught up in events. Still, the actual events themselves probably weren't quite as important as the thoughts, comments and feelings involved.

I'm really enjoying this show a lot.

Also watched Episode 6 of Himouto! Umaru-chan.

I'm also enjoying this one, it'd be easy to just have Umaru be a horrible selfish person and try to make jokes out of that but I think part of the reason the show works is because it doesn't take that route. She may be an "annoying" little sister but it's the kind of annoying that you'd miss if it was gone (though you might not think so while it's there). There's also more to her than just the "annoying" aspects.

I really like the Brother/Sister relationship in the show. I know that little sisters are a popular subject for different reasons but it's nice to have a show with a well developed family relationship. It's funny really because the word "imouto" in the title probably puts some people off and that could cause them to miss out on something good.

GOD EATER - Episode 2

This show is really weird, it seems to go from being really fantastic, to absolutely crap within seconds for seemingly no reason. The excessively stylised animation looks good half the time, and absolute pants the other half. The score sounds good during some scenes, and then just seconds later they use a weird soft rock song during a funeral scene. The protagonist is incredibly stupid, cocky and annoying half the time, and then minutes later he's showing emotional range, he previously didn't have only to lose it again in the next line. I still feel like it could go somewhere though, so I'll probably give it another episode or two.

Also, I think Eric's death scene might be a strong contender for most ridiculous death scene ever. It's so excessively contrived and stupid that it goes all the way back around and becomes amazing...
