Decided catchup on some anime i've put on hold for a few weeks:

Afro Samurai Resurrection

I actually found this more enjoyable to watch than the Afro Samurai mini series, it works better with a run time of under 2 hrs than having 5 episodes of 25 mins each.

Boogiepop Phantom eps 7-9

In a similar situation as above i enjoyed these episodes more than the previous 6 as there actually seems to be connecting plot now whereas the previous 6 just felt like standalone eps just set in the same city.

Actually, I Am... ep2. This is getting into it's stride already. It won't be groundbreaking, but it will be a lot of fun.

GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There ep1-2. Brilliant! I'm liking the character work so far, the MC's apathetic attitude towards his work in particular. It looks like politics might play some part in the story as well as battles, which is hyping me up even more. I just love the whole concept of this show.

Non Non Biyori: Repeat s2 ep1-2. Perfect, absolutely perfect. I didn't expect it to start as a prequel though.

SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist ep1. Another series using the concept of government censorship as an excuse to be as outrageous as possible... and I love it! A spiritual successor to Daimidaler, without the mecha parody.

To be honest, I don't recall ever seeing a season of anime that has had me as excited as this one. The next twelve weeks are going to be awesome.

Overlord (Japanese Dub) - Episode 02
Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Japanese Dub) - Episode 01

So far the shows I'm watching from this season are:
- Classroom Crisis
- GOD EATER
- Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Actually, I am)
- Monster Musume (Everyday Life With Monster Girls)
- Okusama ga Seitokaichou! (My Wife is the Student Council President)
- Overlord
- Prison School

I do plan to watch the following at a later point this week:
- Charlotte
- Gate
- Rokka
- School Live!

Last night i finished off:

Boogiepop Phantom eps 10-12

I decent end to the series, if you like creepy retro vhs-feel horror you'll like this if not i wouldn't bother. It's one of those you'll either love or hate shows i think, i found it ok but appreciated it more for it's style and what it was trying to do, it could work well in a live action setting as either a film or a mini series.

Later i'll be starting BTOOOM! & Zetman :)

I've considered watching Boogiepop Phantom before, I suspect it's not for me though based on what you've said.

I watched Hanasaku Iroha episodes 3 and 4. It's a very interesting show, kind of wacky but with a nice bit of thoughtfulness in there. It seems that one of the main themes is about how people perceive each other and what their actual intentions are, at least it comes up a lot in the first few episodes. It was pretty interesting, where one person sees complaints another sees helpfulness and what someone took as generosity was actually just dedication to the person's own goals. Exploring the subject also appeals to me on a personal level because I often hesitate to make suggestions since I know that I usually seem to come across as being critical and it's generally easier to stay quiet than try to be understood.

I thought it was interesting that Ohana is treated almost the same way by two different characters but sees one in a more favourable light than the other (and it's the one that seems most hostile that gets the positive interpretation). It's funny how little things influence our perception of people.

I also liked the way that the characters are often learning more about each other. I think it does a good job of representing the idea that even when you know a few things about a person you can't just assume that you have them figured out. It makes the characters feel a bit more real (even if some of the situations are a little strange). I guess the fact that most of the characters are willing to go out of their way to understand each other (if sometimes grudgingly) might be seen as unrealistic but I don't think the story would work if they weren't and it doesn't feel unjustified.

I'm secretly hoping that Jiromaru's interpretation becomes reality by the end of the show. I suppose it could be interesting to have the characters never quite get over their differences, although I'd probably prefer the more positive outcome.

I still don't like Ohana's grandmother. I think I get where she's coming from a bit more but I'm not sure I'll be able to like her unless they address the earlier incident. I'm not sure you're supposed to like her yet anyway but it'd be nice if she got a bit of development and an opportunity to grow and improve herself. She hasn't really been a villain since that one incident so hopefully that's a step in the right direction (though I fully expect her to cause conflict in the future).

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace e.1-2 - This is lacking in neither oddball comedy nor freaky imagery. If future mysteries are afforded slightly more time to percolate, it could be really good.

Himouto! Umaru-chan-Episode 2

A fairly decent episode. I'd probably say it's my least favourite show I've picked up this season, not that it's bad, it's just nothing special really. I'm only 2 episodes in and I can feel it's a 7/10.

[New Gundam announced today!! Very interested to see what they do with the franchise this time, needs a bit of a boost after AGE and Reconquista in G :?

So, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans directed by someone with no mecha background and series composition by the woman who composed and scripted M3 The Dark Metal, one of the biggest piles of crap I've seen in years, not a great start but I quite like the look of the trailer and the design of the Gundam Barbatos, roll on October!

School Live (Gakkou Gurashi)-Episode 2

This show is pretty great so far. It manages to walk the fine line between comedy and horror and manages to do both well. I will say I think the horror elements work better than the comedy elements, managing to be very creepy and genuinely tense in places. Not to say the comedy is bad, it got a couple of chuckles out of me, it just isn't the highlight. It makes me hope there is an episode or two that is completely horror focused throughout. I also hope they give back stories to all the other characters as they did with Kerumi in this episode, as that part was the highlight of this episode for me. Looking forward to seeing more of this. Even though it's early days, I'd say this show is tied with Charlotte for my favourite show of the season so far.

Gundam Seed-Episodes 41-45

Episode 41: I'm not entirely where the plot is going to go from here. There isn't really a set goal at the moment. This epiosde they just kind of miandered for a bit.

Episode 42: As glad as I am he's back, I need a damm good explanation of how Waltfeld survived that explosion.

Episode 44: Good battle episode. Looking forward to learning some stuff in the next episode.

Episode 45: Well that was quite a bit to take in.

Only 5 episodes left. As much as I am enjoying the series, I think I'll be glad once I finally finish it. I'm not a huge fan of watching really long series, I feel like I get burned out on watching the same series.

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ - Episode 6 (Blu-ray)

Forgotten how repetitive ZZ starts with the sixth battle between Mashymre and Jadau in six episodes and still inside Side 1, needs to move on now.

School-Live! [Gakkou Gurashi!] (Japanese Dub) - Episodes 01-02

Alright everyone on this thread is talking about it so I figured I'll see what the fuss is all about.

And the result is basically HOTD: Moe Edition. Imagine Urobuchi getting involved and killing off all of them one by one.

Then again it's Nitroplus. Of course it's going to be dark! Any show done by Nitroplus has a dark tone in some way (people may argue that Super Sonico doesn't have one but if you think about it, she has to put up with those headphones for the REST OF HER LIFE and yet she's still cheery). Don't know why I made that comparison.

Last night I watched:

BTOOOM! eps 1-2

Pretty good starter eps, looking forward to watching the rest once I get it on blu-ray as I do like survival situations like this whether it's anime or live action, like Deadman Wonderland, The Hunger Games etc.

Zetman eps 1-5

This is a pretty cool series that's quite close to the superhero genre that ends up being these 2 guys fighting against monsters, one has superpowers and the other is a rich kid that uses technology in a combination of armor and guns.

Today I watched:

Hal

An enjoyable film, wasn't expecting the twist at the end where it's revealed that Kurumi is actually the robot not Hal. This definitely added more to the film for me and just shows how in love he was with that he would completely shut down and believe he was the robot just so I didn't have to remember her dying.

Zetman eps 6-8

Just keeps getting better, my only worry is nothing will be resolved at the end of the series as there's only 4 episodes left after these and there's been quite a few plot threads started that I can't see ending this soon such as what does the company that created Zet plan to do with him and who is that guy that creates the rules for the players/monsters yet also convinces them to keep attacking Zet.
