It's kind of funny because @Anime in France (The french branch of Anime Limited) released Treasure Island last year on Blu-ray along with other classics like Ie Naki Ko under an 'Anime Classics' label. I guess shows like this just don't sell in the UK and outside of Japan/France etc. I think a lot of people in Europe and Asia grew up with a lot of the 'World Masterpiece Theater' series on TV when they were growing up so it holds more weight there from a nostalgia point of view. I'd love seeing series like this and bloody Space Adventure Cobra which they also released in France get released in the UK but I know that in the end, it won't sell at all. Manga released Sherlock Hound back in 2010 on DVD which was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and I'm still pretty sure it tanked sales wise. A cruel world we live in :p

It's not all bad, we do get some great releases from time to time so I can't complain too much, but as a fan of the older stuff it can be difficult.

Death Parade (Japanese Dub) - Episodes 11-12 (Complete)

This show got really good at the end though there was one plot point that was pretty much pointless to cover (the guy with the flower head). I'm going to miss this show.

That's what I'm talking about...

Look at Romeo and Juliet and the counte of Monte cristo... these are old classics and was reimagined .... And I wouldn't mind see what France has for licences.

I mean some of us has class too you know......

On MAL I saw le miserable the anime and to be honest I wouldn't mind having that in my collection..... I mean I love reimaging anime......

Gundam Seed-Episode 25-30

Episode 25: Kind of weird to start and episode in the middle of a battle. I genuinely thought I missed an episode or something. Weird. Half way through the series now (Not counting Destiny) and I'm pretty surprised at how fast I'm getting through it. Also, despite the fact I thought it might be coming, nothing makes me not want to continue watching than watching the preview and seeing it's another bloody recap episode next.

Episode 26: Another bloody recap episode.

Episode 27: I don't believe it. Right after a recap episode there is an episode that consists of more than 50% recycled footage. Jesus Christ. I really hope the next episode actually does something.

Episode 28: YES KIRA. YEEEEEEES KIIIIRRRRA.

Episode 29: Pretty bummed that Cagalli stayed behind in the Orb country. She was quickly becoming my favourite character. Also, that was a great ending. The next episode is going to be intense.

Episode 30: Tolle, we hardly knew thee. In this episode I also realised for the first time that Nicol was supposed to be a male. At first I thought the subs made an error but then they kept saying he and I had to look it up. That was one female looking and sounding man.

Treasure Island (Takarajima) - Episodes 9 - 11

Kidnapping, mutiny, pirates, betrayal, Treasure Island! It’s all here in the next 3 episodes! Really enjoyed these three episodes and pretty much everything I said earlier continues to hold true here. The music continues to be fantastic and the art style still looks really pleasing to the eyes. Plenty of pastel freeze frames and again as I mentioned previously, a myriad of effects and cinematography techniques are utilized in order to foster a unique atmosphere. It’s easy to say that I’m enjoying the series from a visual standpoint as well. I also have to say that I laugh quite a lot while watching Treasure Island and a lot of the humor is down to the mannerisms of the characters and it's subtle but highly entertaining. It’s good stuff and reminds me a lot of a series like SDF Macross but for kids and I like it a lot. It’s less preachy compared to other kid series like Romeo which is a series I loved a huge amount but was definitely going for a more education route with moral dilemmas and such, not to say that they don't exist here! Sea shanties all the way!

In the end, the show continues to be great and I’m super into it. Can’t wait to watch more!

Hell, there is a distinct lack of moe shows in the line up, I wish there were more.
Thinking about it, I'm not sure there's a "cute girls doing cute things" show with a physical release here other than K-On (though there's also the more recent announcement that Hidamari Sketch Season 1 will be released). I guess Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh were both released in the past, although I'm not sure how easy they are to get these days.

I assume that's the sort of thing people tend to include when they say "moe" (though definitions seem to vary wildly). It's certainly the kind of thing that I'd like to see more of.

I watched the first episode of Non Non Biyori Repeat, this "filling in gaps" thing seems like it could work quite well (I'm a fan of Hidamari Sketch and it jumps about all the time, at least for the first couple of seasons). The downside is that we're unlikely to see Hotarun's confession. I suppose it's still possible that this could all be an alternate timeline though, that could be it's own kind of interesting but I doubt it'll happen and I'm not sure I'd want it to. Anyway, I'm glad it's back (and it was nice to see Hika-nee again, she's like a slightly less cool Koma-chan-Senpai).

I've also started watching Love, Election and Chocolate (Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate). It's a bit odd, I'm not really sure what kind of show it wants to be. It starts with a bit of dark drama then ignores that for what looks like being harem comedy and then it kind of drops that for a light-hearted but somewhat considered look at an election process. The first episode almost seems deliberately designed to put people off, especially if you strongly dislike fanservice, lolis and/or loli fanservice. Even if you like fanservice, there's very little after around half an episode. I'd probably say that the characters are a bit underdeveloped too and while there is clearly a fair bit of backstory there's very little time spent on the dramatic elements (at least in the four episodes I've watched). I could also imagine people being put off by the discussions about election strategy.

I think the strangest thing about the show is that I'm enjoying it for some reason. I guess I'll like anything with a loli-catgirl in it.

I can't say anything about Lucky Star but Azumanga Daioh is quite hard to find past the first couple of volumes. I've looked. It would be way easier and probably cheaper to import the US or AUS versions.

Wouldn't Clannad & Puella Magi Madoka Magica count as moe? Those are two i've always thought of as moe, never really thought of K-On as moe though lol.

Haven't seen Clannad but Madoka is definitely not. You could say the art style is but the contents of the show itself is so far in a different direction it's not even funny.

I suppose a Blu-ray re-release of Azumanga Daioh is unlikely, I can't imagine it would be a dramatic improvement anyway (I don't think Azumanga Daioh is known for it's amazing art, although I'm quite fond of it's style). I was lucky enough to be able to pick up all of the volumes at quite good prices a few years ago, which was pretty much the start of my addiction I guess. I also have a copy of Lucky Star, although I was holding off on watching it since it apparently references Haruhi Suzumiya quite a lot and I haven't seen that yet.

Just to note, I would absolutely buy a UK (or US, I suppose) Blu-ray release of Azumanga Daioh and I'd buy a new UK DVD release too (for a backup and shiny newness).

I haven't actually watched any of the three yet (for various reasons) but I've often heard of them all being referred to as moe. I guess K-On would be moe in the "aww, cute" sense, Clannad would be "don't they grow up fast?" and Madoka would be "Oh god what have these kids gotten into?". Something like that.

It might not be as dark as Madoka, but Clannad has it's own particular way of utterly destroying you emotionally - in many ways I'd almost say it was more harrowing than Madoka because the way it strikes a certain chord of nostalgia within you is kind of terrifying at times. It certainly reduced me to a wreck.

Himouto! Umaru-chan-Episode 1

A fairly funny first episode. Umaru herself is incredibly cute when not chibified. Would recommend. Also, I need to stop picking up new shows before it gets overwhelming. This is the fourth show I've picked up this season and God Eater makes 5.

Kill la Kill - Episodes 17 & 18

So much for Senketsu's moral quandary. That said, this half is shaping up to be much better than the first. I wish I'd bothered to write down some of the predications I'd made for posterity, because most are coming true.
