Arslan Senki - Episodes 11 - 13
Nisekoi: - Episode 11
Fate/Stay Night - Episode 25
Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront) - Episode 1

I really liked the epilogue episode for Fate/Stay Night. It was a really nice way to end the series in my opinion. Having finish FSN I decided to start on Kekkai Sensen - a show which I've had my eye on all season. The first episode was pretty promising and had a sort of Baccano vibe to it. I'm definitely excited to see where it goes.

DanMachi e.13 - It's easy to forget how close this show skates to being totally derivative trash at times, because hot damn was it entertaining from end to end. Second cour expected and demanded.

Non Non Biyori e.1 - Well this is just a dee-light. I look forward to picking off an episode or two here and there over the next few weeks.

After giving myself a day to recover, today I'm diving back into Anime again. First order of business, catching up with the Simulcasts I missed while I was away.

DanMachi-Episode 13 Complete

A very entertaining finale but one that didn't really resolve any dangling plot threads and if anything opened up more, especially with that last Hermes line. If this show doesn't get a second cour or a second season I'd be very surprised.

Sound! Euphonium-Episodes 12 and 13 Complete

Excellent last couple of episodes but I have come to expect nothing less from this series. Easily the best show that I picked up this season. AlsoSeason 2 Confirmed, right? I hope so any way.

And with that, I have finished all the shows I picked up this season. Well all the ones I didn't drop anyway. Out of the 4 shows I ended up watching, I loved 2, liked 1 and thought 1 was garbage. I'd say the best was Sound! Euphonium looking at it subjectively but I think my favourite was Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic. I'm a tad biased. The worst was easily Ninja Slayer, considering it was my most anticipated show this season, I'm glad Sound! Euphonium came and blew my expectations out of the water to soften incredible disappointment. I hope Trigger gets their **** together for their next show.

School Days - eps 1-12

I'd heard a lot about this one defying usual harem conventions, so wanted to check it out, and certainly glad I did. It's big, dumb fun, and horribly exploitative, with every female character pretty much there to service the male lead - but it's totally griping from start to end. What starts as a pretty by the book will-they/won't-they love triangle rapidly goes out of control mid-series as the male lead becomes more and more of a jerk, transforming into some kind of twisted sex addict who proceeds to sleep with pretty much every girl at school. And that ending... crikey. I wish more harem shows were like this.

Wasn't quite sure why everyone's blood was black at the end - was that for censorship reasons, or was it symbolising they were all horrid sinners or something?

Sekirei season 2 - eps 1-3

Definitely a considerable improvement on the first season - and while it's overall still not quite as good as other big-boobed battle girl shows like Freezing or Ikki Tousen, it's certainly the funniest. The famous 'dare desu ka' scene is comic brilliance.

Death Parade (Japanese Dub) - Episodes 09-10 ~ Due to Viewster maintenance, many shows are missing episodes beyond 10.
Triage X (Japanese Dub) - Episodes 07-08 ~ Despite its flaws, I'm enjoying the story and PLOT.

I decided to start re-watching Non Non Biyori before the second season starts (so exciting). I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea since I just watched it a little while ago but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed watching the first episode again. I guess one of the good things about Non Non Biyori is it's kind of an experience so just remembering it doesn't really compare to watching it.

Episode 2 is possibly my favourite (at least until Episode 3) so I'm looking forward to watching more. I should have more time to get fully caught up later in the week (although watching one episode a day could be kind of nice, I might try that some time).

Kill la Kill - Episodes 2-4

I can appreciate a work that has its own style, but Quick. Jarring. Cuts. Does. Not. Style. Make. They only work to take me out of the action, especially when used as a framing device for Mako's unwanted interjections. Bring it down a notch, because it's hurting a series that does have a nice look to it, ignoring certain gross aspects of the fan service and Ryuuko's charming glove.

My jaw dropped when she first activated her uniform.

The fourth episode was my favourite of the bunch, welcome respite after the action-packed, but ultimately lukewarm second and third. The first episode really nailed it for me, and I'm hoping Kill la Kill doesn't lose the rest of its steam and fall into the dreaded 'villain of the week' paradigm.

It's interesting to see someone label the fan service in KLK as gross, as I never really saw it that way. I mean, flesh is certainly flashed a lot in that show - but in my eyes it's always done to make a specific thematic point, as opposed to some of the lingering male gaze stuff in other shows.

I can see where yourself and other viewers might be picking up on how the use of fan service is being used to reinforce a certain subtext, and maybe certain elements are handled better down the line, but right now it's all very clunky.

Much as I liked KLK, I did think it took its fanservice to some uncomfortable extremes at times. Would agree that it has a point to make about what it's doing, but I also think it was a show that was determined to have its cake and eat it when it came to fanservice - however clever they were about it, there's no denying it had an awful lot of it.
