Tenchi is the infamous lead character from Tenchi Muyou!, which was one of the progenitors of the current harem genre.

I like Monogatari but I couldn't help but laugh at "Monogatari is a pretentious Tenchi Muyo.". It's pretty much spot on.

Personally, I quite like Arararagi for being less spineless than most formulaic leads. His vampiric powers (and willingness to get involved with things in general) sets him apart in a universe of demotivated, boring guys. Also he's quite good looking (potential vampiric magnetism aside), which is something which always annoys me about these generic leads in other shows - it's completely implausible that they'd end up surrounded by girls in the first place!

Also his 'vampire girlfriend' is my favourite character. Sorry Vash. Though it's pleasing to find three people who aren't keen on Hanekawa all in one place.

By vampire girlfriend, I'm guessing you mean Shinobu? She's definitely my favourite too, with Senjyogahara coming in second. I know a lot of people like Hanekawa, but I've never got that so much until the later arcs in Season 2.

I like how someone on Twitter refered to Monogatari as a series that had 'unlimited waifus' - It does feel a little like that at times, as far as 'harem' shows go, if you can even call Monogatari a harem show - it does an excellent job at building its characters in neat little sub-contained arcs, only to then develop them further as sub-characters in other arcs. One of the reasons Shinobu is my favourite is she dominates in terms of screen time, even in the arcs that are ostensibly about the other girls.

There's an interesting point about how for much of the series Araragi and Shinobu are essentially immortal, so the show becomes less about will they 'win', but how will they win.

But yeah, I enjoy Araragi largely just because he seems like a particularly 'active' protagonist - he gets properly stuck in and engaged with whatever's chucked his way - unlike most harem leads that are bland to the point of being a cardboard cutout.

Gintama-Episode 25

Wow. I never would have thought an anime could have a full 20 minute episode 100% dedicated to eating a hot pot and not only make it funny but thoroughly entertaining from start to finish yet they some how managed it. Also, not really liking that new OP. The new ED sounds fine but nothing will ever replace Mr. Raindrop.

City Hunter (Episode 6 & 7)
Not much to add to my previous comments other than the fact that I really love this show and the cast! Man the voice acting is seriously amazing, as Ryo goes from slick and professional to goofy and pervy at a drop of a hat. Episode 6 was a lot more comedic, but it wouldn't be a City Hunter episode without those heartfelt moments. An episode about a woman who wants to kill herself due to losing her lover and not being able to move on, Ryo is tasked in becoming her bodyguard in order to save her from the man she hired to kill herself as she has second doubts. Great episode all around.

Episode 7 was a lot more serious, but very similar. Ryo doesn't take on work that comes from anybody other than a beautiful woman, so when a depressing looking man asks for a job, he at first declines. His tune changes however when he comes into contact with the mans young daughter, playing alone in a playground. Her farther has thought to have killed himself after he had to take the blame for a hit and run his boss took part in, and thus has not been able to see his daughter ever since. Ryo makes a promise to the little girl that her Dad will return home and intends to keep that promise! Ryo will try and stage an assassination of him in the hopes that his boss finally forgets about him and the man can finally return to his family and daughter. An emotional episode that demonstrates the protagonists other side, when his heart flutters.

Triage X - episode 4

'Hot beef injections' - I needn't say any more...

Seriously, this show is absolute garbage - but I can't stop watching.

Ninja Slayer-Episode 3

Okay so I think Ninja Slayer might be going somewhere now. Every episode has less and less of those flat, barely animated scenes and they are finally attempting to actually tell a story now instead of just having a 10 minute action scene and calling it an episode. This episode was the make or break for me, if this episode was like the first two I was going to drop it, but this episode got me interested. I'm actually looking forward to next weeks episode to see what they do to tie in this week's episode with the prior two, as the titular Ninja Slayer wasn't in this episode and it felt like the start of the show. If you ask me, they should have reworked this episode slightly and just started here. Despite this, I still can't stand it when they cut back to Inferno Cop style animation every now and again. It completely breaks immersion for me and really takes me out of the show.

Watched a few more episodes of City Hunter, and it's honestly a hard show to talk about without going into specifics, because I feel like I've already said all that needs to be said. It's just so good and consistent, from the voice acting which I just absolutely love to the characters themselves, their designs and the plots that they find themselves in coupled with the awesome soundtrack and great art style. Episode 8 deals with an old female acquaintance of Ryo's as she seeks for one more favour from him. She's hot, he used to love her but moved on, and now he’s in love with her all over again, and thus this is what influences him to help her out time after time, with his reward always vanishing away before he can get his hands on her.

Episode 9 follows a gifted croupier who works for a syndicate she wants to leave, and hires Ryo to protect her as she deals her last set of cards for a game between two syndicates before she’s allowed to leave, but only if they win. She has an ability to read cards to a near 100% accuracy, and this is why they are reluctant to let her go, and why the opposing syndicate want her dead. Probably the funniest episode yet, with many laughs and hilarious scenarios, all topped off with a beautiful ending that only a show like City Hunter is capable of dealing.

Episode 10 has Ryo looking after the daughter of a Yakuza boss after he owes them money, and she wants nothing to do with him! A leader of a school gang, she does everything in her power to get rid of him, but in the end maybe she's fonder of him then she wants to admit.

Another episode where Ryo is set up to look after a girl, only she's seventeen years old! Ryo doesn't want to babysit but convinces himself that she might be cute anyways, until he sees her. But what at first glance appears to be a 'standard student rep type', she appears to have more under belt than he thought...a leotard! Donning her leotard, and with her hair down, she becomes a vigilante of sorts at night, leaping from building to building, looking for an item she needs help obtaining, and where she sees Ryo as that help, he just sees is a flying tush. Episode 11 is another good one.

Finally episode 12, a young boy and his beautiful teacher, a revolutionary girl escape a war torn country and hires Ryo in order to protect them from the secret services. The young boy becomes a man as he slowly picks up the habits of Ryo, as Ryo tries to get him to do his dirty work, which includes taking photos of his teacher and maybe even getting him her panties while they stay at his place. A strange episode where the man after them resembles Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Overall a bunch of great episodes, and my love for this series never wavering. Mokkori!

You should! I'm having a blast watching this show. So funny and silly and lovable. The show is so optimistic at times as well, the way episode 9 ended put tears and a massive smile on my face, I mean seriously its the little things. What a beautiful show :)

I wounder if I should get it

I'm half tempted to start watching it again as well - I've still never watched all of the second series.

My only complaint with the anime was that it doesn't quite do justice to the delicate quality of Hojo's character art - the attention to detail in the manga is astonishing. Saying that, I do think the action scenes flow better when they're animated.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet ep 1-13 (complete). Been watching this over the last few days and I'm actually quite impressed. Normally in anime like this new opponents would predictably emerge with similar powers for Ledo to fight, so the simple fact that Chamber was and remained the most powerful weapon system on the planet (until the last few episodes) got a lot of my respect. I liked the mecha design which reminded me of Eureka Seven for some reason. The whole 'emotionless warrior discovering his humanity' thing has been done before but I felt it was well handled here, as was the day to day life of the Gargantia fleet and the interactions of the crew. That said, I do think the Gargantia crew's complaints about killing the pirates was hypocritical, as they were happily blowing everything up in the last episode. Speaking of which, the hidden mass driver was an incredibly forced plot point. Otherwise I enjoyed it.
