Metropolis
Had been meaning to watch this for ages. I'm not sure how much of a fan of Tezuka's artistic style I am, there's bits of it I love, and some of the facial animation is remarkable, but there's other bits which look silly - like the overly chunky legs and fingers.
Still, I enjoyed this more than I thought - it feels quite dated like a lot of early 00s stuff does, and perhaps a little afflicted with what I call arthouse cinema bloat - ie. a certain cache of anime films from that era that felt like they were really shooting for international releases (appealing to an arthouse/international cinema audience as opposed to an anime fanbase).
Nice soundtrack and some pretty stunning visuals in places though - and surprisingly dark in tone.
