Detective Conan episode 1166 Something off.

Food for the Soul episode 11 Christmas in June.

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Season 2 episode 12 Festival. (Complete. I’d say this was on par with the first season which I also enjoyed.) 3.5/5

Kowloon Generic Romance
episode 12 Traces.

Mono episode 11 Beat the heat.

SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary 2nd Season episode 22 Truth. (Complete. A stronger season than the first and a worthwhile storyline to follow.) 3.5/5

The Dinner Table Detective
episode 12 Aspiration. (Complete. Not one of the stronger mystery/detective series I’ve seen.) 3/5

Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers Legend of Kikoutei
OVAs 1-4, The Message OVAs 1-5 (Complete. A fun adventure sci-fi franchise to explore courtesy of another winning Discotek release - the OVAs were more of a mixed bag though. I seem to have timed this pretty well with a sequel series coming in 2026.) 3.5/5, 3.5/5, 3/5, 2,5/5

Legendary Brave Swordsman Yaiba
episodes 1-12

Friend showed a couple of random things for us last night:

Wanna-Be’s (1986, rewatch)

There’s not a lot to it, but I still kind of like this one, it’s very much ‘we wanted a film about ladies wrestling, but we got John Carpenter to write it’. Does make me wonder why we’ve never (to my knowledge) had a full series about ladies’ wrestling, it feels tailor made for anime.
You could try

Wanna be the Strongest in the World!

Obviously loads of fanservice but it does portray the horrible journey a newbie has joining a Japanese Dojo pretty well.

Me
Suzakinishi the Animation
A bonkers series of shorts from 2 VAs who play these characters on a radio show at 1.30am. That'll give an idea of the humour.

Under Ninja
Still great. Did you know they do a survey in Japan of the most popular names each year and Otomo is always in the top ten.

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid
A damning indictment of the treatment of women who are different. Of course, they put a man in charge.

One of the reasons I like anime in general, and why I will never watch dubs, is that I really like the foreign culture aspects of it.

But that said, I guess this show was just too foreign for me and I could not get into it. I had the same reaction to Wave, Listen to Me and Vtuber Legend. I found all three to just be irritating and any humor went over my head as I didn't find anything funny about them.

My Hero Academia (Season 7) (Japanese) - Episode 156 - 159 (Complete)

This was a fantastic season of MHA and may now be my favourite season. There was a lot of great moments from start to finish and ended on a real cliffhanger of a fight. Really looking forward to the final season, it couldn't come sooner.

My Hero Academia: You're Next (Japanese) - Movie (Complete)

Unfortunately this movie doesn't match my enjoyment of S7. This was a fine movie but definitely not as great as the first two movies (I especially enjoy the second movie a lot) and I'd say I enjoyed it the same as the third movie which I found just fine as well. It had some interesting ideas and some cool scenes still but nothing to write home about.

As the late, great Phil Silvers said
You're a comedian in a stage show. What guarantee have you got that the audience will laugh tonight.

Oh! I almost forgot about Wave, Listen to Me. I bought the Blu-ray for that series from Rightstuf three years ago, but I still haven't had the chance to fully watch it yet; I only saw a couple episodes streaming. I bought it mainly because of the adult-aged characters, so hopefully I will enjoy it. I'm not big on comedy at all unless it is a very dry humor, so maybe it will suit me, then. I do agree wholeheartedly with your first line about appreciating the foreign culture aspects and never watching dubs because of that, though.

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai Season 2 episode 12 No matter what. (Complete. I have to admit this sequel season fell a bit flat for me, for lack of a better term, despite some fun episodes.) 3/5

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
episode 12 Step in and strike.

Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin episode 13 Hectic.

Zatsu Tabi: That’s Journey episode 12 Travel stories (Complete. As much as I gel with this kind of anime ZT wasn’t one of the stronger examples from recent years but was a pleasant enough weekly Monday viewing.) 3/5

Legendary Brave Swordsman Yaiba
episodes 28-38

Didn't you have some neighbors that come see you to watch things only dubbed or am I thinking of someone else?

They haven't been over to watch anime for well over two years now, and they just recently separated. We did have to watch most of the anime in English for the girl, who was unable to read subtitles, and that was extremely grueling for me to handle. I just had to deal with all the cringe and squirming around in my seat listening to all of that. It was like the Spanish Inquisition even with the soft cushion and the comfy chair, lol. Fortunately I had seen all the anime subtitled long before I watched any of them with the neighbors, so I knew how they were actually supposed to sound.

When I am watching anime alone or with my mother or one of my two daughters, we always watch anime subtitled, as none of them will do anime in English either, so that works out just fine. One time my mother and I tried to watch Kamisama Kiss on Crunchyroll, and for some reason it was English-only with no subtitles available, so we turned it off within the first minute and looked for something else to watch.
