31 Days of Halloween Day 20: Phantasm (1979, Don Coscarelli) A cracking little horror film with great atmosphere and a nice score-this coming from a flick featuring deadly flying Christmas tree ornaments. This also led to a further four sequels, all of which are housed in a nice LE set from Arrow Video.

You're Under Arrest OVAs 1-4 and TV 1-12 rewatch

That was like one solid 8 hour session and it's now 8:00am. RIP sleep pattern.

Episode 1 of the TV show really struck me this time (no doubt due to all the things that have been in the news since the first time I watched) as surprisingly prescient in dealing with issues faced by transgender people (even down to the staff arguing about which changing room she should use) and dealing with a lack of understanding and empathy from even normally kind characters like Miyuki. It's true Aoi's crossdressing is played for laughs sometimes but no-one should really be off limits for comedy as long as it isn't hateful, which it certainly isn't - YUA is probably one of the warmest shows out there when it comes to humanity. Indeed one of my original criticisms of the show was that everyone seems a bit too nice, especially to say the characters are cops dealing with criminals (even the criminals never seem to do anything too terrible). But Aoi is actually a quietly strong character who doesn't see why the problems other people have with her should even be problems, which I think makes her a pretty decent trans character especially for 1996.

There are still the niggles of the tediously repetitive will-they-won't-they Miyuki x Nakajima shenanigans (the main reason I don't think I will ever be watching Oh My Goddess) and the realisation it's a Strike Man episode will still make me roll my eyes, but I can definitely say time has improved my view of the series. It does strike a nice balance between procedural plots and slice of life and of course, I appreciate Fujishima's love of machines that always shines through. Rewatching feels like returning to comfortable surroundings that you've missed, which is probably why I spent so long there in one sitting.

Black Clover - Episode 3
Inuyashiki - Episode 1-2
Juni Taisen: Zodiac War - Episode 3
Real pity that it seems to follow the same formula each episode, but still enjoyable

King's Game - Episode 3
Just when you think it couldn't get any worse...:p
Is there anyone who genuinely watches/enjoys this show, and not in a "so bad, it's good" way?

King's Game. Omfg -_-

Makes me glad I dropped this after 2 lol

Love Live! Sunshine!! Season 2-Episode 3

Some great character moments here, and I really quite like the song at the end. Would go so far to say it'd make a good OP, better than the kinda meh one we have.

The Anchient Magus' Bride-Episode 3

Another absolutely fantastic episode, the visuals and music especially made this another home run. Genuinely beautiful.

Blend S-Episode 3

That out of nowhere Kinmoza/New Game cameo caught me off guard.

Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond-Episode 3

Found this one to be pretty underwhelming. Too scattershot.

Katanagatari-Episode 9

31 Days of Halloween Day 21: Phantasm II (1988, Don Coscarelli) A so-so sequel that takes a more action-orientated approach. Has a chainsaw duel that ends with a saw to the balls so there's that. It's No Dennis Hopper vs Leatherface though...

Psycho Pass season 1 complete
Brilliant show. The sort of sci-fi series I've been looking for since GitS.

Stranger Things ep 1 & 2
Starting the countdown to season 2 with a rewatch of season 1.

I have started two more shows from the current season and are up-to-date.

Juni Taisen: Zodiac War (Japanese audio) - Episodes 1-3
King's Game the Animation (Japanese audio) - Episodes 1-3

Kizumonogatari Part 1 and Part 2

About to watch Part 3

Then head off for more Trains, get back to the flat and start Ancient Magus Bride.

No Mind Game for me
