The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

The characters really felt more human than in most anime, because they had even the smallest reactions. I found the normal Yuki to be absolutely adorable, and I found the fact that Haruhi had stayed with Kyon in the hospital for three days really touching.

This movie had its thoughtful moments, its dramatic and shocking, and its adorable ones. Truly a fantastic film; the only negative I'd say about it is that it goes on for quite a while (about 2 and a half hours).

Yeah it's a fantastic fan movie (in the sense without seeing or knowing of the previous material, you won't 'get' the film).

It's also very good looking in HD. I actually thought the length worked in its benefit as it gave it the time to work its plot through properly rather than rushing segments of the film.

You're right though, normal Nagato was extremely cute as a character, as was the section at the end with Haruhi (the tsundere kicking in seconds after she'd woken up, as soon as she realised she was actually being direct/honest :D)
Did you watch the brief scene at the end of the credits?

Definately one I plan to own at some point, just not decided how yet (Manga UK release if it has no issue, no region limitations, or US import which I can only play on some of my viewers)

I watched it upscaled on my BD Player. I saw some SD clips on the bonus disc, and boy does it kick ass in HD (I'd even go so far as when comparing HD and SD, SD sucks). I do agree with the length - every little bit was necessary.

Yeah, for some reason my mind told me to go to the end of the credits (the song during the credits was pretty boring). That scene at the end with Haruhi was definitely one of the cutest moments of the film; Kyon joking about drawing on her face and Haruhi asking if he'd did it really highlighted their relationship to me.

EDIT: The scene where this song is played has to be one of the most perfectly executed scenes I have ever seen. Just as you thought the series was going for the calm conclusion route, BAM! Asakura is there stabbing Kyon!.

It seems to me that a lot of anime movies are just for fans. They make little attempt to bring general audiences up to speed, I noticed this trend with the Trigun and Gundam 00 movies too and even Advent Children. I'd say Evangelion suffers a little too but it's not like the main show doesn't expect a fair amount of research too :p

Trust me when I say its a film that really looks great in HD, (in a clean/detailed way, as it's not a 'flashy' series) hence my resolution to only own it in BD and not an inferior version :D

Yeah, it was a good scene when you take it in context of the series and characters. Reminded me of the evolution we saw following Endless Eight. Subtle, but there :)

Yeah, loved the scene, was extremely endearing in it's own way. Who know's if they'll ever 'make' it in the series/books, but to say the potential and hints are never there would be a plain lie :)
It was the whole way she was obviously concerned and caring, and then suddenly realised what she was doing that made me chuckle the most though. It was very...'Haruhi'. Heaven forbid she actually belies her usual facade :D

I'm a romcom fan though (the inner sop in me) so this element was always aimed at viewers like me :D

That whole scene was kinda /facepalm...'I damned KNEW it' when I saw it.
Again nice though, in fact I thought it was kinda sweet how the whole Human Nagato side of the story hinted at her own feelings about him :)

@Sparrow
True, I just feel like Dissapearance was perhaps more focused than a lot of films in this dimension.

Whilst you need to know something about the background for a lot of anime films, a lot of them you can get by with the self contained plot, whereas this film I feel almost hinges on you being familiar with the material to get much out of it.

Final Fantasy is a terrible example of a film to give too as that was 100% a fan film and more a way to show off characters than a real film hehe

Also, was I the only to smile the first time I saw the film and heard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYf6f6Vc ... re=related
to have it evoke nostalgic memories of watching the series about 6 months earlier.
Felt like watching a 'higher budget' version of the original :D (which kinda is what the film is heh)

Mirai Nikki 3-4

Now, people were saying what happened at the end of episode 2 was unexpected...this entire episode was pretty predictable if I'm perfectly honest. I mean, really predictable. Oh, and they jus had had to tease us with a boob press didn't they? Either show us everything, or show us nothing!

Episode 4...well I'm not sure "Kill the corpses" was the correct way of saying it xD

Witch Hunter Robin 5-6.
The show is still in the new plot each episode stage. Am hoping it will develop more overall main plot focus once the formative episodes are done.

Oreimo 1-6

Aside from some borderline cringe-worthy melodrama in the second half of episodes 3 and 5, I absolutely loved these first half-dozen episodes. The sixth was probably my favourite owing to Manami's batshit Grandad. I shall elaborate in the "out of 10" thread when I'm finished, no doubt.

If only the box wasn't so disturbingly green... I swear it glows at night.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Holy hell the characterisation in this film...I love how easily it came across how weird Kyon must have looked when everything first happened. It's awkwardly hilarious to watch, but that's what's so fantastic about it ("Hey Mummy, Kyon's gone crazy - he's talking to the cat!" xD)

My enjoyment of the film was inhibited by the fact that my little brother and his friend would not either A) Shut up B) Get out of the room. If I turned the volume up, they started to obscure the screen! Luckily, the friend's Mum picked him up before the second (and most epic) half of the film.

The characters really felt more human than in most anime, because they had even the smallest reactions. I found the normal Yuki to be absolutely adorable, and I found the fact that Haruhi had stayed with Kyon in the hospital for three days really touching.

For once it was nice to see a story that revolve completely around Haruhi; nice to see her take a bit of a back seat for the other members.

Find's out Kyon is the slider
