Be Forever Yamato

This is the first of the Yamato movies I've not seen before. Unbound by any previous TV limitations of any kind this is certainly the most cinematic of the Yamato films so far and it does have some gorgeously framed scenes.

Pretty much all of the key creative staff that worked on this film were also the same key creative staff on the Odin - Photon Space Sailor Starlight movie, and you can clearly see story and visual cues in Be Forever Yamato that would be reused and developed in Odin as well. It's a long film as well and it sometimes doesn't use the time well, another problem that would affect Odin too. I was always intrigued by the aspect ratio change halfway through but it didn't feel as odd as I thought it might have.

Despite it's flaws I did enjoy it, I love space operas from this era.

Macross 7 Plus - Episodes 1 - 12 [Final]

First watch of this ahead of reviewing it on the next mecha podcast.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Episodes 4 - 7

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX - Episode 5

I'm quite enjoying this I think. I like the drip feeding of the divergent story from the original Gundam series but I wish it wasn't another recent Gundam series that's framed over a Gundam battle competition.

Guardian of Darkness OVAs 1-3 (Complete. Despite looking promising from the outset I didn’t find this particularly memorable.) 2.5/5

I still have the CPM DVD of Takegami, I've seen it several times (but not in a long while) and remember quite enjoying it. It's something I have always wanted to cover on the podcast as the director did quite a bit of interesting anime through the 80's and 90's and Masami Obari was an animation director on it which you can clearly see in some of the action scenes.

Fire Force Season 3 episode 54 Freedom.

Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE 2nd Season ONAs 19-26 (Complete. Both Divers and Re:RISE are amongst the weaker Gundam anime I’ve watched to date and though ha their moments aren’t ones I’m likely to revisit - I did find Re:RISE a slightly better watch though. 3/5, 3/5, 3/5

H2O: Footsteps in the Sand
episodes 1-12 (Complete. A relatively bland teen finds himself in a dramatic harem situation and mediocrity ensues - not even the supernatural elements could make this all that interesting for me.) 2/5

Hana Yori Dango
episodes 1-4

Anne Shirley episode 6 Peddler’s plight.

Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc episode 6 Control.

Food for the Soul episode 5 Food drive.

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Season 2 episode 6 Test of strength.

Kowloon Generic Romance episode 6 Faux nostalgia.

Mono episode 5 Ham and haunting.

SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary 2nd Season episode 16 Breaking down.

The Dinner Table Detective episode 6 Confession.

Hana Yori Dango episodes 5-25

Ghost in the Shell: Arise ~ Alternative Architecture ep 9-10

My original thought was to go back and finish the Arise OVAs, but to my surprise, I already did (at the time, I apparently said they were unmemorable, so that was on the money). Despite remembering next to nothing about the finer points of the story, I managed these two bonus episodes added in for the TV broadcast just fine. I think the set up for the series has progressed enough by this point that, if you squint a bit, you could be watching a self-contained two-parter from the Stand Alone Complex, but I don’t know, maybe that was the problem. Other than de-aging Kusanagi, there’s not much left to give Arise it’s own identity beyond Ghost in the Shell: Perfectly Adequate Anime.
