Moonrise (Japanese audio) - Episodes 17-18 (Completed)
Tower of God Season 2 (Japanese audio) - Episodes 25-26 [Workshop Battle Eps. 12-13] (Completed)
Moonrise is an alright but pretty messy series. The story and premise had a lot of promise, with a solid first episode and I was happy with how it ended in general. That said, the structure of said story is very messy. For example, there's bad pacing in the first act so you have a random time jump which makes the characters you do like become so unlikeable akin to how Shinji was treated in Evangelion 3.0, which despite the flashbacks not long after adding some context, left a sour taste throughout. It also doesn't help that one of the characters is such a bitch that just got worse over the course of the find third of the series (which funny enough that whole portion also reminded me of Code Geass) and it felt like they weren't punished enough (same goes for another character as well). Despite being 18 episodes, there are also a lot of unexplained plot points but at least everything else was decent enough in terms of animation, voice work and action/music.
Recommendation: Watch at least once and don't pay AL CE prices for it.
Tower of God Season 2 was split into two story arcs (one per cour). I watched the first cour last year and now finally got back to watch the second cour recently. I'll start with the negative first - there is unfortunately a downgrade in production here, as we went from TMS Entertainment's Telecom Animation Film studio (Blue Box, Lupin the Third Part IV) over to The Answer Studio (Anne Shirley) which led to pretty messy animation especially during the action, one of the big parts of the series in general. Despite that, the non-action portions are pretty decent and while I wish there was more effort in polishing them up, at least the pacing of the show was decent and kept me going. The story and characters are based on the Korean WebToon's Part II storyline and I liked it a lot. Bam is still intriguing and the side cast are all pretty welcoming as well which is nice since a lot of anime tends to make you wish more screentime was on the MC. The music is still as strong as ever thanks to Kevin Penkin returning and the theme songs were great as well. No clue if they'll ever continue the adaptation but I hope they do because I really dig the story and where its going, but I do wish they put more effort in the uality of the end product so that it doesn't end up being a waste of an IP.
Recommendation: Worth a watch.
