Yu-Gi-Oh GX-Episode 17

Well that was kind of a meh episode.

Hunter x Hunter-Episode 97

So Feitan can literally just conjure a Sun? That seems a little overpowered. Oh well, I don't think the Troupe will be in the show much more after this anyway.

Isn't his ability that he can make the person feel the equivalent pain of what he specifies? So he doesn't actually conjure a sun, but makes the person feel the pain of being scorched by the sun - which is kind of more scary in a way!

I dunno, I mean if that was the case, why would it potentially harm the other troupe members and set the nest on fire if a sun wasn't really there? I may have to do some googling .

Actually, I Am ep8. So good.

Mobile Police Patlabor: The New Files ep1-4. Good fun overall, but I can't help thinking a well placed air strike would have resolved all this much quicker. There was a military-grade weapon on the rampage after all, so it should be the military's responsibility to deal with it.

Non Non Biyori: Repeat s2 ep8. More kawaii goodness.

It's not been that long since I watched it so I really should remember but doesn't it specifically stay close to civilians so that they can't do anything like that? I think there was an explanation as to why the military don't get involved, it might have been during the TV episodes though and I'm not sure if it completely explains it.

Let's see, I watched Non Non Biyori Repeat Episode 8.

Another great episode, especially the bits with Koma-chan-Senpai (and Hotarun). Hotarun has impressive plushy making skills. I'd have thought that she could make Koma-chan-Senpai plushies with a wide selection of outfits to get some variety, there were even a few good potential inspirations in the episode.

Himouto! Umaru-chan Episode 8.

More great Bomber moments. We even got some information on Onii-chan's female colleague, I have to admit it wasn't exactly what I was expecting (except maybe the parts about how she feels about him). It was also interesting that Onii-chan and Bomber apparently knew each other from their school days. Come to think of it, it seems odd that Onii-chan doesn't seem to know who Bomber's sister is if they've been friends for so long. I guess it's not a given that they'd have met before.

My Love Story/Ore Monogatari Episode 21.

I liked this one a lot but I'm not used to the story not being finished by the end of the episode. It's a long wait to see what happens next and I'm very curious. There are a lot of different ways this story could go and I could see several of them working quite well so it'll be interesting to see what does happen (maybe something I haven't thought of).

The new character was really great, especially with those stalker/pervert moments. I'm hoping that they'll appear quite often in the future, although I suppose that'll partly depend on how this story goes. It's kind of a shame when you have a good character that ends up going unused and this show already has one in Saijou (who wasn't around this time). I guess it can be tough because the characters aren't always suited to every story and this show tends to use it's characters quite efficiently. Now that I think of it, I'm not sure there's really been a time when a character would appear just for the sake of appearing.

And Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Episodes 1-6 (or 27-32 if running on from the first season).

It feels a bit different from the first season, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm still enjoying it so far anyway and some of the episodes were particularly good (the "heist" and Togusa's investigation, at least).

I'm not so sure about the new main story so far, I don't think it starts as strongly as the one in the first season. It also seems to be slightly less obvious which episodes are story and which ones are what used to be called "stand alone", the new distinctions are a bit odd. To be fair, the story does seem to be more closely tied to the "stand alone" episodes so maybe there is just supposed to be less of a distinction at all (and the story in what seems to be "stand alone" episodes tends to feel a bit stronger).

The ending music makes me feel sleepy for some reason, it's probably a good one to watch at night. On a related note, I'm not sure why I didn't mention the music before because it's great (including the music from the first season). I suppose maybe it's because the music is done by Yoko Kanno so there's probably no need to say more than that.

Space Cobra - Episodes 25 - 31 (out of 31) (1982) (COMPLETED)
I finished Space Cobra, and at the end I couldn't stop crying because holy **** that ending...I can't stop laughing....haha yes! YES! I can't believe something like that wasn't spoiled, holy ****, that was gold! Holy crap that was amazing. After watching the previous episodes I'd usually do a little write up complete with screenshots, but I don't want to spoil anything so I'll leave it at that. But seriously, what an ending, woooow. Tears dripping down my cheek. Thank you.

I'll have a review in the next few days for something more, in depth *ahem*. Man oh man, I still can't get over that ending. Masterpiece.

It's been quite a while since I've seen it, but if memory serves, I think the early part of the 2nd Gig does have a more noticably downbeat mood to much of it, compared to the first season. They do certainly make a much greater effort to link all the episodes back into the main story as well, but I don't know if it was really necessary. I think sometimes that does feel a little forced in and I'm sure there was more than one instance of their leads not taking them anywhere. That said, I remain utterly convinced that the 2nd Gig is the better series and, arguably, the franchise's finest hour to date.

Don't know how interesting it would be so long after the fact, but we actually did a simulwatch of SAC several years back, if you feel the need to see what everyone thought about it: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13649

City Hunter 2 (1988) - Episodes 1 - 6 (out of 63) (First Impressions)
I wasn't exactly sure what to watch, and as such I had both City Hunter 2 and Giant Gorg in hand, but after watching the OP for City Hunter 2, a sense of excitement and happiness overcame my whole body and I knew at that moment that I'd be watching City Hunter 2. So here I am watching City Hunter 2, the sequel to the phenomenal City Hunter and I've just wrapped up the first 6 episodes, and man it feels great to be back.

It's no secret that City Hunter is one of my favorite series of all time, and after finishing the fantastic Space Cobra I had an urge to go back to City Hunter and get some more 80’s in my system. In case you're wondering, City Hunter 2 is a TV series by studio Sunrise and directed by Kodama Kenji, who is known for directing shows such as Kekkaishi and Detective Conan Case Closed. Right off the bat the sequel clicked as I became reacquainted with the cast and crew. The first thing that you see is the intro, so I'm glad to say that the OP for City Hunter 2 is fantastic and sets the tone for the rest of your viewing experience. Its slick, it’s stylish, it’s awesome. City Hunter is back, and it’s awesome.

City Hunter itself is a show the follows Ryo and Kaori, the duo who go around helping people, mainly acting as bodyguards when people feel like they are in danger. Of course, as the series progresses they find themselves in all sorts of situations and protecting all sorts of people. The dynamic between each character is what makes this show an instant favorite.

Episode 1 throws you straight in. Both Ryo and Kaori are on the streets looking for anybody who will hire them, since it’s been a month since their last job. However, as usual with Ryo being Ryo he's busy eyeing up all of the cuties. I've said this before and I'll say it again, nobody does character designs like Tsukasa Hojo, and man the girls in this show are stunning and absolutely beautiful. Ryo himself has a reputation of sorts, one of a sexual deviant and can often scare the female clients away, which is a shame since he only accepts work from females! Of course Kaori is pissed and scolds Ryo, which is also hilarious, seeing this hulk of a man beautiful man sulking with puppy eyes as Kaori pulls out a 100 ton hammer and smashes it in his face has me rolling and wiping my tears each and every time. The reaction faces in this show are second to none.
As Ryo roams the street he hears the distressed cry of a girl and saves her from a bunch of thugs. This must be his lucky day, right? Well it turns out that the damsel in distress is in fact only fifteen years old, ooops! What makes matter worse; she says that she wants to get married to Ryo because of some horoscope that she read. Ryo manages to run away but later gets a call for a job. The job in questions is protecting a cute model, mokkori! He thinks that the lady in questions looks hot too, but it turns out that the girl is the fifteen year old girl from earlier and she’s hired him to protect her. Makeup, a different hairstyle and a swimsuit goes a long way for Ryo. How cruel. He accepts the job, begrudgingly but as always Kaori is always watching, making sure he doesn’t lay a finger on her. The little brother of the girl also objects, convinced that Ryo has a Lolita complex. In the end it’s a hilarious episode with sweeter moments that reminds me just why I loved City Hunter so much in the first place.
Episode 2 continues the story as they figure out who is trying to kill her. The reason as to why she’s being targeted is apparently to do with her accidentally taking a photograph of him and thus he wants her killed and the negative. In the beginning, the girl lied about wanting to marry Ryo due to the fact that she didn’t want to become an idol, as her heart lies with photography but maybe as the episode progresses her feelings for Ryo become genuine? Another great, hilarious episode with a touching ending that managed to tear me up and for such a silly set-up, it manages to be mature and grown up, par for course with City Hunter I guess.

The M&M's marketing continues. Some things never change.
In Episode 3, although the previous girls’ job is done and concluded, the man who wanted to kill her, known as Silver Fox is still on the run, and wants revenge on Ryo for making a fool out of him. His plan to get Ryo back is to target and kill his partner, Kaori whom he mistakes as his lover. Of course Ryo objects at the notion of being in love with her, and of course Kaori is upset and angry. The truth is, Ryo loves her, but tries to push her away since he feels as if he isn’t enough to protect her and doesn’t want to further endanger her, but she takes offense at Ryo, thinking that he doesn’t care for her at all. She tries to grab his attention by wearing sexy outfits, to which Ryo asks why she sounds as if she’s got a cold when she tries to talk sexy to him, and when she tried to do aerobics in front of him, bending over and stretching he exclaims that it’s a good idea to exercise because she’s gained a few pounds. I have to admit, the scene where she’s stretching in that leotard had me both laughing and aroused. You see, I love Kaori. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing, and it exemplifies just why I love this series. After going on numerous dates with other women in order to convince Silver Fox to stop targeting Kaori, he fails and Kaori is almost killed but it turns out to be a ruse. In the end, Ryo pushes Kaori away, firing her.
Episode 4 continues the story and although Kaori has been fired, she’s determined to get back, but whenever she’s snooping on him, he pretends to talk **** about her behind her back in order to further push her away but in the end she just becomes more enraged and decides to fight Silver Fox head on herself in order to prove her worth. In the end, maybe they’re both inseparable and maybe Ryo comes to terms with his love for Kaori after all.
In Episode 5, a novelist wants to learn more about the underworld and hires Ryo and Kaori in order to protect her. She doesn’t know that he’s the famous City Hunter himself and just sees him as an incompetent pervert. As she gets deeper into the world of Yakuza, it’s Ryo’s job to protect her.
Finally Episode 6 deals with a lady who steals a painting from a gallery. Apparently it’s a fake and she knows because her father is the original artist. As she is being chased by the bodyguards, Ryo bumps into her and saves her, inviting her over for some Mokkori time but of course their hunt for her and the painting is far from over. She’s really cute, but even Kaori admits that she’s a bit of a pervert. It’s a great episode yet again with everyone finding themselves in hilarious situations as always, for example Ryo convinces the girl that Kaori is in fact a boy, big mistake.
City Hunter is without a doubt one of my favorite shows of all time, and the sequel retains everything that I loved about the original. The characters are hilarious, with pitch perfect voicing all around from main characters to side characters, the set-ups are interesting and imaginative, the music is fantastic and it goes without saying that the series contains outstanding character designs. I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing through the whole thing and I’m glad that it’s back in my life. MOKKORI!

The fact that Ryo now manages to shoot down a helicopter with his magnum before the end of the opening credits basically tells you everything you need to know about the show.

Haha pretty much, I loved City Hunter as you're aware and I was ready to jump into the sequel as soon as I finished it but I decided to wait it out and watch some other things in my backlog. As weird as it may sound, watching City Hunter 2 last night started off a bit unceremoniously. I usually build it up and get all excited and hyped, a new show to watch! But I honestly didn't know what to watch at all. I narrowed it down to either Giant Gorg or something short like Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai, but at the last second thought "Maybe...I could just jump into City Hunter 2?" and as soon as I started it up my mind was settled, and I'm glad. I didn't want to commit to a 60 episode show right now, but damn it I can't resist Ryo. It was great to be back, Cobra was amazing and I'm glad that I watched it, but it feels good to back back. The series is just perfection.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Episodes 05 & 06

Feels like a huge disconnect between the last episode, which ended having seemingly just defeated the first of what seemed to be many monsters at a mansion, and this episode, which starts at a farming village with no mension of the mansion. I'm guessing they dropped a connecting chapter there, which is weird given how much time they spent on Tarukus and Blueford's completely irrelevant backstory.

The score to this show is really interesting, it seems to leap from mid 00's videogame electronica to dubstep to more traditional orchestra score music in quick succession, I'd love to know what the logic behind it is (if there is any logic behind it).

Heroic Age Episodes 1-7

Watched some last night and some this morning (week off from work). Rather enjoyable so far, wanted a good space faring show and this was cheap enough. Interesting premise and I look forward to seeing how the story plays out.
