Due to to your hesitation to post your supposedly controversial opinion I am going to try and guess and post the theory you can't currently voice.
Ahem,there is a possibility that lesbian pornography is so popular among straight men due to the fact that many men sub-consciously or consciously desire and fantasize about being able to have a sexual experience as the sexually superior gender: females. Men throughout the ages have sub-consciously or consciously resented the fact they are sexually inferior to women and lose vitality through the ejaculation whereas conversely the female only ever gains energy from sex (and thus can sustain having much more sex), some even believe this is the main reason in nearly every civilization throughout history the man has always strived to oppress the female and thus bitterly try to compensate for their sexual inferiority.
Thus perhaps many men have long desired to experience sex from a female perspective, but obviously with them being straight they don't want to identify with the women having hetro sex.
To be honest I'm sure this does not actually fully explain the popularity of lesbian porn, and definitely does not explain why women like watching two guys going at it but hey...

Personally I'm not really into the whole lesbian fantasy myself, What I really don't get is why some guys want to watch their own girlfriends having a lesbian experience. That would be the ultimate insult to me, I personally do not want to witness or think about my woman getting any kind of sexual pleasure not from me.

Ahem, anyway, when I read BL I don't actually tend to visualise myself as either of the guys (though some girls certainly do, and create weird weepy bishounen characters, which isn't my thing). I have nothing against heterosexual fanworks as well, it's just that female-orientated heterosexual material is relatively rare and of poor quality in comparison. One of my favourite circles does straight Gundam 00 books aimed at women readers. They are like gold dust on the used market. However, a lot of female anime characters are very much designed to pander to men, and I can't identify with them at all, so I would rather watch two grizzly, honest guys making out than a guy with a youthful dojikko blushing and being cute (or a temptress being overtly slutty in a way that doesn't quite work for me).
Also, there's the whole kinky forbidden love element, which I'm pretty sure guys who like girl/girl stuff can appreciate from the other side (the trope of persevering with a difficult but passionate relationship against the odds has been popular since forever).
