What manga are you reading now?

It's not Libre thankfully. It's DMP I'm worried about... I do hope Sublime rescues all the Libre titles and rereleases them.

I, too, am worried about DMP and have been for several years (since the hiatus of 2013 which they're kind-of catching up with only now.) I hope SuBLime will come to the rescue!

Probably going to get the evil eyes on a lot of people, but I decided to look elsewhere to read the Golden Age and Lost Children arcs for Berserk (due to Dark Horse pricing and certain volumes going up in price yet again). That's volumes 4 to 16 aka chapters A10 all the way to 121, which is literally near the end of 2016's second episode.

First things first the 1997 anime does a really good job adapting the source material. Pretty much nothing was skipped (aside from some childhood nightmare scenes for Guts) prior to Guts leaving the Band of the Hawks. Once he left, the anime modified/skipped certain things while the 2011/2012 films did the same. Here's what I remember [MAJOR SPOILERS to 1997 anime, 2012 film The Advent & the Manga]:
[spoilerbutton]
  • Guts' first introduction to Skull Knight was in fact straight after he left the group. The 97 anime omitted this, while the 2012 film The Advent moved the scene until after Guts & Casca had their honeymoon.
  • When a bunch of randomers witness an Apostle walking in the distance, this was omitted in the 97 anime and was shown in the 2012 film The Advent. However the Advent replaced the Baron (the Snake-like guy who was shown in the first '97 episode and Chapter 1 of the manga) with the Female Apostle that Guts first kills in the manga (who was also from the first chapter).
  • Guts' relaxing non-lethal fight 1 year later was actually against Silat, the middle-eastern fighter with the crazy rings and wipping-sword. In the 97 anime it was a random person while the 2012 film The Advent omitted this.
  • The events on what happened after The King placed Griffith in prison was not shown in either anime adaptations (probably due to its mature and creepy tone). This was a minor plot point as it explains why The King keeps going after The Band of the Hawk 1 year later.
  • Casca & Band of the Hawks crew against Silat was shown in both anime adaptations, however the 97 anime omitted Silat while the 2012 film The Advent only briefly showed him off. Silat does survive the encounter.
  • Guts' sword training before re-uniting with Casca & co. was shown later on in the manga but was placed in chronological order in the 97 anime. This was skipped in the Golden Age trilogy.
  • Guts' getting PTSD over his childhood and explaining what happened when he was younger to Casca during their honeymoon was omitted in the anime adaptations.
  • During the rescue mission Charlotte talks about an Emperor (implied to be Skull Knight). This was not shown in the 97 anime, but it did make an appearance in the 2012 film The Advent alongside the scene where the dead bodies at the bottom of the prison have the brand mark on their heads.
  • When the crew are escaping a whole ton of content was skipped:
    • The King discovering Charlotte helped them.
    • The King orders an special skilled assassination group, called the Bakiraka, to retrieve Charlotte and kill the others. This entire fight was cut in the anime adaptations.
    • The King promising to leave Griffith alone (while lying about it) to Charlotte after she recovered from a Poison dart (that a Bakiraka member shot after Charlotte saved Griffith's life during the escape).
    • The King orders another group to pursue them; The Black Dog Knights aka Wyald and the group of criminals.
    • Guts & co. got the horses & vehicles from a family folk who admire Griffith. The Black Dog Knights meet soon after, and the whole family gets killed with one of the girls getting raped by Wyald. In the anime adaptations, the crew randomly get the horses & vehicles.
    • The entire fight against Wyald was cut in the anime adaptations. This was understandable as Miura felt he revealed too much as he was building up to the eclipse.
    • When Guts defeated Wyald (which was in Apostle form), Zodd appears to finish him off. Both Zodd and Wyald hint at the upcoming eclipse to both Griffith and Guts.
    • Wyald was the one who revealed to the Hawks the condition Griffith was in. In the anime adaptations it was a different bunch of people.
  • Rickert and the group of Band of the Hawks had been wiped out by a batch of apostles. Rickert was then saved by the Skull Knight. In the 97 anime this was shown but the outcome (aka Rickert saved by Skull Knight) was completely omitted. The 2012 film The Advent skipped this entire scene which was my main issue with that film.
  • Rickert is eventually transported to the destination that he and the rest of the Hawks would meet thanks to a circus-like crew whom Puck was tagging along with before getting captured and saved by Guts. This was remixed in the 2012 film The Advent; Rickert arrived at the destination to witness the Skull Knight vs Zodd fight like in the manga (but omitted the circus-like crew scenes but they and Puck made a cameo appearance when the Apostles were leaving the Eclipse tornado).
  • The Skull Knight vs Zodd fight appeared in the 2012 film The Advent. The outcome however was omitted, which was basically Zodd agreeing to a cease-fire between the two while also commenting on Guts surviving the Eclipse.
  • The events after The Skull Knight brings back Guts and Casca was briefly shown in the 2012 film The Advent but the rest of the scene (like Rickert healing their wounds and tagging along with Skull Knight) was omitted.
  • Everything related to Guts after fighting the ghosts out in the field with Skull Knight (i.e. Casca's demon fetus, a random apostle attacking the crew that introduces the Dragonslayer, conversations with Godo) was not included in the anime adaptations.
[/spoilerbutton]
A lot of stuff was cut from that part of the story. The main reason for reading this was because the 2016 anime is adapting a certain part of the story that you really can't watch unless you have read the Black Swordsman arc, the Golden Age arc and the Conviction: Lost Children Chapter arc.

Once Dark Horse plans to release the manga in Omnibus format I'll pick them up, the same goes for Gantz especially with the upcoming Gantz:O movie that I'm curious about. I think I'll watch the Gonzo anime first.

Just finished the last volume of Cardcaptor Sakura. I've absolutely adored this series, easy 10/10 for me. I haven't read a lot of Manga, but this is easily my favourite. I just really fell in love with the characters, they were all fantastic, the art was amazing and the story was brilliant too. Cannot wait to get my hands on the anime.

Volume 5 is out already?! I need to hurry up and get volume 4 and then catch up, it's such a fun series.

I've spent tonight reading the first volume of Complex Age. I really like it, so will be keeping up with this. :)

Just finished Goodnight Punpun Omnibus 2 and it continues to be amazing. Wasn't expecting such a huge focus on Yuichi but these volumes fleshed out his character so much, and the rather ambiguous ending makes me wonder how he's going to end up. Punpun himself remains as depressingly relatable as ever and the series is still blackly comic in a way that got a few laughs out of me. An amazing series that I urge everyone to check out, so long as you don't mind things getting pretty dark.

Due to the new D.Gray-man anime I decided to re-read the manga. Just finished vol 24, don't know if or when vol 25 will be released as its releasing very slowly in Japan and it's been almost 2 years since vol 24 was released.

Noragami Volume 14
Noragami Volume 15 - Really liking the direction the story is taking, looking forward to picking up volume 16 sometime soon. :)

Your Lie in April Volume 8 - Still very much in love with this series.

Just finished both omnibus volumes of Magic Knight Rayearth. Certainly not CLAMP's best by any means, but definitely some of their more charming stuff, and it's always nice to see the classic 90s style - it's striking me more and more these days just *how* much their style changed as they moved into the 00s and got into Tsubasa etc - so much detail was lost in the process (as much as I love xxxHolic)
