Love Com - up to volume 12

The first seven books of this series had me thinking it might possibly dethrone Maison Ikkoku and become my favourite manga. Truth be told, there's more chemistry between Otani and Risa than there ever was between Godai and Kyoko, and the development of their friendship then romance was so perfectly paced.

Since then it's not been quite as brilliant, though the manga is still worth a place in my top 3. Aya Nakahara has wheeled out love rivals for both Risa and Otani, and both have been more or less cast aside following their moment in the spotlight. She does has a lot of fun with Mimi, the teenage model obsessed with Otani, to whom she lives next door, but the arc in which Kohori vyes for Risa's attention fares less well, mainly because it's too reliant on improbable coincidence.

But it does serve to create tension in Risa and Otani's relationship, forcing them apart temporarily, and prompting both of them to think about how they're treating one another. Love ain't easy.

We're now onto side character arcs which, given how low-key most of them have been throughout the series, feel a bit tacked on. They've also taken the focus away from the primary relationship, though I imagine that'll get back on track soon enough.

What I love about this series is that the characters (particularly the leads) are so loveable, and Nakahara never lets them wallow in angst. Even though they have difficulties with school and relationships and whatever, it's never long before something funny happens to lighten the mood. The dialogue is brilliantly sharp and witty, the facial expressions are priceless, and the touching moments are incredibly meaningful because of how sparingly they're used. Top stuff.

Up to volume 23 of Fairy Tail... some epic epicness it has to be said. Mashima clearly pulling the story together from dreams and cobwebs, but managing it a lot better than most do. And with his humor and range of female characters this series is just too easy to read.

Anyway, having reached 50 volumes, this is quite a special occasion, after all not many manga out side shonen serials break that mark it seems, so I think a re-read from 1-50 is very much in order now.
Not many series make it at all! And which anime is "************"?

I suppose this is a good example of why I love manga, it doesn't need much words to convey the story, just good art, the only manga I can think off that does a better job at that is "Biomega"
I kind of agree and disagree. Naruto often looks like a paint-by-numbers book. There's gotta be a nice meeting place between it and One Piece.

Nooo. My point was that what happens in one chapter of Naruto is what happens in one or two pages of One Piece. One is too empty, one is too cramped.

Scrapped Princess vols. 2 & 3. I liked it although I forgot some of the characters from volume 1 after a month's gap.

Alice Academy. - I was vetting this for a young reader and there was a scene where a guy steals a girl's panties. Whilst she's wearing them. Up until and after that point, it was mildly amusing.

I'm reading Qwan now and it's pretty good. I love the art.

Got one more chapter of Higurashi: When They Cry: Eye Opening volume 1 to read.

Two volumes per story arc? If so, there's a truck load to fit into the next volume.

2 for each question arc. 4 for each answer arc.
The games were significantly longer for the answers.

Nope that's right, the answer arcs came out crossing over each other in Japan as well.
They're techniacaly all different series and not from the same magazine or publishers in Japan.

If only all narrative was like this.

EDIT: Just finished it. It made the anime look rushed beyond comprehension.

Just about to read vol 9 of Real. A great manga but I believe Inoue has only released 10 volumes in Japan so far over the 10 years since he started it, so Im gonna try and savour this as much as I can!
