I feel Viewster is going into the wrong direction by not explaining the streaming details and forcing customers to buy the whole package. They should have just followed Crunchyroll and Funimation's lead and add separate options.

There are many people out there who just want the streaming part, like myself, so it's going to be a problem. A lot of people are already bashing the service over the lack of HD content.

If they don't fix this problem immediately then it will most likely damage their reputation for a long term and push away customers even more.

So if I want ad free HD content I need to sub to a box of complete tat that I don't need nor want? I mean, what if I didn't like Kill la Kill? (I do, but making a point here lol) Why on earth would I want to pay for a box of crap relating to it? Ahwel, I'll carry on not using Viewster then, they've certainly made that a easy choice.

I'm on the fence about this one,I do want ad free HD streaming but I don't want a box of crap sent to my house every two months. It's the streaming people have been asking for not the loot crates.

So if I' ve read this correctly Viewster is going to start making some anime content subscriber exclusive with an added box of crap?

Screw that, their encoder isn't good enough to justify charging anyone.

Ugh. Definitely stopped me subbing by the streaming side of things not being their own option. I'd much prefer to be able to choose between having one or the other or both. As it stands I couldn't really afford to put that much money toward the full package, especially when I'm not massively interested in the random box of merch.

I think they're taking this in completely the wrong direction and as others have already stated, they should have followed the example of Crunchyroll and let the user choose what they want to be paying for. The idea of anime being exclusive to this deal doesn't really make me happy either and it's just more likely to keep pushing me away from the service when I've otherwise been pretty happy using it (although they're in need of a PS3/4 app so I can watch stuff more comfortably).

Not best pleased really. :/

No, Bad idea. I hope they change their minds.

I just want HD premium streaming, that's all. No fancy stuff through my door.

If it was £15 or so, so I wouldn't get hit by customs and then have to pay £8 - £14 in handling fees on top, then I might of tried it as a once off, but sadly I think I'll just stick to being a free user and hope that they change their mind.

I decided to find out how much it would all cost with shipping included and it's an extra $19 taking the total up to $48(£31 and that's if it doesn't get hit by customs)well bollocks to that I say,no idea what Viewster are thinking.

The $19 is for shipping and VAT for those purchasing in the UK, so VAT is being pre paid before it has even left its destination which means you shouldn't get stung for taxes and handling charges when it reaches the UK.

I'm another in the list of people who really want to pay Viewster for an ad-free, premium anime but don't really want to receive a box of random merchandise (which I have to physically go and collect from the delivery office) every now and then...

In principle it also screws over all of the other countries Viewster supply anime to who aren't eligible for the boxes for logistical reasons. It's just a pain.

I just want ad free HD video streaming. I am quite willing to pay Viewster as well as CR for this, but I don't want to have to pay vastly over the odds for a box of stuff which I might have no interest in whatsoever in order to get said video streaming. I'm curious as to how well it'll do. My guess is "not very." Hopefully they'll back down soon.

Considering a CR subscription is £40 per year IIRC, this is pretty poor value IMO.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I'd be up for this. It does suck they aren't splitting the service but I am the opposite of everyone here, I don't watch anything at all on viewster but I'd be up for a box of Kill la Kill themed merch so long as it isn't cheap rubbish. As long as they announce in advance what Anime the next box is based on before shipping them out, I'd be interested in getting these every so often so long as I like the show the box is based on.

It does seem silly to force people to get both or neither. They've been adding some good content so I'd look into getting a subscription for the HD and ad free benefits but I don't want to sign up for the merchandise delivery.

I can't imagine anyone is happy to be forced to choose between both or neither. At best some people will not be bothered because they were planning on getting both anyway while there'll be plenty of people who wanted just one or the other and are annoyed.

I'm guessing "exclusive anime content" just means something similar to the restrictions that Crunchyroll has, although the change over might be a bit rough for some people. I don't think it'd be a problem in itself but making the merchandise necessary to get some of the anime seems like a bad idea.

I have to admit, the marketing speak doesn't help. They might think the two go together but I'm sure they'll find plenty of people that don't think the same way. I'd much rather have had a genuine reason (if there is one) and acknowledgement that people might be disappointed.

Wouldn't it be better for you if they were separate too? If you're not interested in the Viewster content then there's no real need for you to pay for both services.

People who want both will be fine but surely it'd be better to also have people that just want one service or the other as customers too.

That's true but those who only want the streaming are paying a huge premium for the box that they don't want whereas the streaming part of the cost is probably quite minimal in comparison to the box.

I expect a lot of people who want the merchandise would also want the streaming (or at least be happy enough to try it) and, as you say, it'll likely be the cheaper part so it'd be easier to get away with forcing people to sign up to stream in order to get the boxes. Still, It could be something like £5-8 of a difference, which is a lot for something you don't intend to use. If that puts enough people off then it'd be better to have all three options.

I'd be very surprised if they're better off without at least having the streaming benefits as a separate option.

The thing that bothers me is that Viewster is a streaming service and yet the way they've been marketing omakase it's always been about the box with the HD streaming being an afterthought. It would have been better if they'd introduced a basic subscription and then added a more Premium option at a later date, also has the Hd service actually gone live yet?

Also, as long as you can't choose the contents of the box you get each time, there is a very real risk it will be something you're not interested in. With the amount of money they're wanting for it, that's not a risk I'm prepared or willing to take.
