HAL looks gorgeous, pre-ordered as soon as it went up on Amazon and just checked and it's been knocked down to £25 (which is the price I was hoping to get it at).

Never watched it, but the same can be said about every AL title excluding Durarara and my Wings of Honneamise pre-order. I'm just blind buying to give them as much support for what they do as I can.

Hal gives me Absolute Boyfriend vibes, I hope the pain I feel isn't as large as when I read that Manga.

Stunning set, it's all sorts of cute.

I saw HAL at the Leeds Film Fest last year. Don't think it's worth all the hype to be honest...

They showed it at the BFI's anime season earlier this year too. It's pretty good, and definitely deserves the ATL treatment - though I#d definitely bring tissues as it has all the feels. It's a pretty depressing film, in a good way.

Apparently the run time is 60mins, is this true? If so then this is a pass for me.

It's 60 minutes on IMDB & Letterboxd.

Think we might need some confirmation from Andrew here.
He did address the runtime thing here. (as a sequel to my initial comments)

Or for the lazy (probably everybody), to quote Andrew:

Hal -> Firstly the runtime is closer to 60 minutes, not 50. Secondly Funimation is an Amaray release with reversible covers and a non-rigid sleeve plus a few artcards. Our release is rigid casing, neat Digipack AND we've gone the full way and translated the full 20-page booklet (which contains an interview so good part a quote will end up in the Anime Encyclopaedia I hear). The booklet includes the translated mini-manga as well.

Extras will be the same as the Funimation discs too - so you're getting value for money there. Wish we could charge less but I can't really have us losing money either!

At a £24.99 SRP you'd not have the translated booklet or collector's packaging - and for a work I loved dearly I really couldn't justify that. Sorry!

It's programmed into me to be a stinge when it comes to films, especially those that cost a fair bit. Thats why Journey to Agartha and The Garden Of Words are not yet in my ownership lol.

I half used to be that way with anime but not anymore :) I don't go for any collectors/special editions though as I'm not too fussed by art books so in retrospect they're deemed a rip off to me lol plus most of the collectors/special editions are BR anywho which I have not yet moved on to. I swear DVD is the modern day VHS now. I'm old school :p

Bit of a mess. The "Complete Collection" is just floating there and the I in the word "HIP" is barely readable.

Basically just the Madman design withe logos changed.

MVM could easily just repurpose Funi great design. What the hell is this mess.
I'm glad I got the Funi release all those years ago because this definitely falls under FLCL bad = Would not buy.

I was so hoping MVM would use the blu ray release of Samurai Champloo to rectify what is possible the worst anime cover in the history of human kind... They haven't. But hey at least you can read the title on the spine and the back doesn't look like it was designed by a blind autistic 3 year old. Small steps right :)

Edit: on a side note, how is it Anime Limited have to jump through so many hoops with cover submissions and MVM get away with the cluster f@ck that is the DVD of Champloo? (God I hate that cover)

I would think you answered your own question there Jon. By using the same cover as the DVD collection (which was also used by Madman for their DVD and Blu-ray collections), MVM don't have to resubmit the cover for approval. Anime Limited are often doing different releases compared to other regions which often results in more submissions for approval.

Yeah, I was guessing they wouldn't have to resubmit for the blu ray but was wondering how the DVD even past in the first place :p

Christ, that's pretty bad, isn't it. I think my problem is more with the spine and the back though - it just looks so... bland.
