The main issue I had with the original cover was that it features characters who won't be introduced until the next volume.
(And let's not mention the lack of OVA in the first release. Please try and sort that out for the second volume, or even a standalone release please Sentai).
I suppose it's still early days but I do worry about Shirobako being unjustly treated poorly (you could argue that's already happening). I do hope that it gets the recognition it deserves some day. I'm used to great shows that I like being ignored because of their genre but I think Shirobako is the kind of show that goes beyond genre and has something for almost everyone. It's not necessarily that it's "better", just that it has some particular unique aspect that makes it worth watching regardless of the types of shows you normally watch.
I could be wrong, of course. Maybe at some point in the future I'll look at it and feel that it's missing some essential element that could make it truly endure. Still, at the moment it very much feels that it has something special and I find it kind of sad that so few people are likely to ever get to experience that.
It's difficult to say without knowing the circumstances of the deals but it feels like Sentai could have made a bit more effort to try and push Shirobako. If they could get people watching the show, then it should be able to speak for itself. I guess that could still end up happening but I can't help feeling somewhat disheartened.
