I think it was a big deal because Toonami were on the production committee, rather than it necessarily being a big or popular show.

With Gurren Lagann, I was confused as Madman's site describes it as having the same extras as the UK release and when I looked at it all I found was 2 digipacks inside a slipcase. No artbook and the only disc extras were the movies, parallel works and the openings. There might have been something else, but it was no where near the list of extras the UK release had. Weird.

Ugh, then again I do own a few non subbed anime.

It sucks because what they should have been doing is adding English subtitles to their releases due to the whole Harmony Gold trash.

It's possible that Harmony Gold themselves told the Japanese crew to not include English support or else it damages their sales - if that was the case then that is low, really low, like 'Konami' low.

A US distributor who is pretty much taking the Macross franchise hostage.

They trademarked the name Macross so no one can use it outside of Japan and although they got the rights to Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (the very first series) they don't own the rights to the other Macross titles but they still claim that they do. They used the contents of SDFM to make Robotech alongside Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada (Super Dimension Century Orguss was originally going to be part of the Robotech saga but was skipped thankfully). The Japanese companies who own the franchise haven't even bothered to file a lawsuit against them to get the franchise back.

The only way for Macross to be free again is to make Harmony Gold bankrupt, force them to give up the trademark or have the Japanese aggressively fight back so they get wiped out of the map.

Considering Anime Limited have helped bring the original visual novel over to English, it's possible that they have also licensed the movie versions of the anime series (Remember MVM doesn't license films anymore).
