Yeah that's what I'm hoping for tbh.

To be honest, I'd just want the booklet and the discs, they can take their random assortment of crap and go inflate the price of some other release...

Yeah I meant akagami- it's an amazing show unlike like danmachi who's only redeeming factor is episode 8's sakuga...

Yeah I read it as akami ga for some reason! Damn these Japanese words!

Those Japanese Snow White With The Red Hair volumes look absolutely gorgeous; hopefully Anime Limited's release looks something like that.

I'm not feeling anything from the Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? volumes though.

Why can't JP BDs all be english friendly *cries* - i hope Comet Lucifer isn't dubbed because i wanna pick up the JP volume releases and I don't wanna feel like 'ah, missed out on the dub' after lol

I'd be interested to know how well Pony Canyon's USA releases actually sell. I really can't see why anyone would spend £60-70 (going by UP1/UP1USA) for just 4 episodes which ends up being around £200 for just a 1 cour show.

I'm heavily turned off by both the packaging, and the fact that PC's releases aren't even Japanese quality when it comes to on disc content.
When you're charging £60-70 for four episodes, you really should not be cheaping out like that in any way at all.

I don't think anyone knows what the hell Pony Canyon USA are doing - even themselves. AoA's model works and it works well - especially considering they have a lot of strong IPs under their belt. They put their titles up for streaming in as many places as possible for the casual/wider audience and release high quality physical sets for the collectors market. They get money from streams, they get more money from the shrinking physical sales market and they don't upset the parent company in Japan.

Pony Canyon on the other hand stream on CR only, put out more expensive unattractive sets for mediocre niche of the niche shows AND cheap out when it comes to the discs. I don't think I've seen one positive comment about PonCanUSA since they started, and I honestly don't see them hanging around in the US market for much longer unless they start taking constructive feedback on board.

On the artwork for part 2 itself... all I can say is that the person who runs the PC twitter account will be happy.

Ouch, I didn't actually realise they were coming in at those kind of prices. I kinda ignored them when they first popped up as they didn't have anything I wanted. Now I'm hearing that some of these releases are sub par quality.

I've supported AoA on a select few titles, which while expensive, are cheaper than Pony Canyon's and always deliver on quality.

To answer the possibly-rhetorical question I was pleased when Ponycan announced a premium edition of Cute High Earth Defense Love as I really enjoyed the show. I was less happy when I bought it all and discovered that compromises were made to make the release worse than the Japanese version; there were even locked subtitles on something so expensive, which is just rude. I don't even mind the dorky packaging, but deliberately reducing the quality of the on-disc content is something you cannot get away with at that price point.

Aside from the locked subtitles, were there any actual problems with the disc or was it simply not a Japanese disc? Because I can understand creating a new master for the English market (theoretically that's exactly what Aniplex of America do), but why they wouldn't max the specs out on the discs they do create is beyond me...

It wasn't so severe as the Sentai-style video downgrades; there were complaints that the previews were truncated abruptly. I know it's nitpicky but they're charging a small fortune and I'd rather go for the Japanese releases from now on if I can't have faith in the quality of what I'm buying, especially as their own marketing team has promised that their mission is as follows: "We would like to bring high-quality animation that was produced in Japan to North American fans while keeping the quality intact as much as possible."

If it's only 'as much as possible' I expect to see a full itemised list of downgrades before preordering so that I can make an informed choice :/

I'd rather they just used Japanese discs and sold the same discs in Japan with the English subtitles attached to give everyone a choice. By the time you take into account the availability of highly desirable bonus items in Japan versus the cost of importing through a grey import company, the Ponycan USA versions aren't a good deal for Japanese customers anyway.

Did anyone check the broadcast masters? Often previews will end abruptly anyway, it might not actually be a flaw of the disc, but of the show. It annoys me when I see it too, but I get why they do it.
