There is no reason you'd ever use the UK site. All the US orders dispatch from the same UK warehouse and you don't get charged any more, it's just cheaper overall.

A few reasons:

1) UK accepts Paypal
2) Some peoples credit cards may have high foreign currency charges (UP1USA charges in USD I believe)

I know a friend ordered using their credit card and the discount from the USA site was more or less negated due to his high fee's

Well that's news to me, great news.

I've only used UP1 once and I don't recall getting a charge. I guess it depends on who your bank is/who your credit card is with.

It seems like something of a bold statement to put "Sentai Selects" on something with that cover. I suppose they're no strangers to fanservice shows (and fanservicey covers even for less fanservicey shows at times), so it's not unreasonable that they should also have shows they'd select from that group. I'm not really sure what "Sentai Selects" is supposed to mean though, someone's personal favourites maybe? I wonder if they have a voting system of some sort within the organisation. More likely, it's just a budget line of sorts with a questionable name.

More importantly, the Shirobako cover seems like an odd choice. Three of the characters on it barely appear in the first half (I'm fairly confident that one of them doesn't actually appear at all). I suppose it could be difficult to have a cover that represents the content well, which is hard enough to describe in words that do the show justice. Still, even if you're just going for something nice with some of the characters I think there'd be better options (you could use the image for the second collection). The cast is pretty big and there are quite a few important characters so it wouldn't hurt to get some of them on there on at least one collection (maybe that'll be the second one though).

Personally, I'd have gone with Aoi and Erika in a loving embrace although some might argue that doesn't really represent the show (especially if they've seen it).

The difference between the DVD and Blu-ray versions of Chaika is interesting, it could be just a coincidence but I wonder if they're trying to say something about the tastes of people who buy one or the other.

Sentai Selects™ will showcase anime that have withstood the test of time to remain popular and memorable works of their genre. A wide variety of titles have been included in the line to assure that something fresh and different is available for every release, while also being curated specifically to give fans an opportunity to discover new experiences without breaking the bank. This new line of titles will offer reversible cover artwork and other features where applicable.

“The Sentai Selects line was created for those who have recently become interested in anime and wish to expand their libraries with classic shows, as well as those who may have missed their chance to own these titles during their first run”, said David Del Rio, Vice President of Sentai Filmworks. “Our hope is to provide an ideal situation where both new and old fans alike can enjoy these must own anime at an affordable entry price.”
.

Ah, thanks. I wonder if I should be trying Indian Summer then, maybe depends what genre it's a popular and memorable work from. I wonder how they're defining genres.

I think in all honesty watching shows with the idea that because they're 'Sentai Selects' that they thus meet a certain standard other than being old and out of print, you might be left disappointed. Of course you can watch whatever you want for whatever reason so if the sentai selects labeling attracts your attention that's fine, not dissuading you from checking it out and maybe the Sentai Selects label will draw your eye to some actual hidden gems but like always these labels tend to lose their weight not too soon after launching and just because a means to print old series and sell them from a lower price. Basically don't be true trusting of the moniker :p

Indeed, I may not have been entirely serious about trying it based on it being a Sentai Selects title. I am curious what they'd consider the genre of the title to be, I don't know if "Ecchi" (which it seems to be) counts as a genre and while I'd say Harem probably does it doesn't seem to quite be a Harem show. I guess Genre is a difficult term itself at times. I'm probably over-thinking it, it's more likely that they haven't really thought about it.

The "quality" of shows being a subjective matter, I suppose you can't really rely on any grouping that claims to have the top shows (or something along those lines). At best, you might find a particular group that tends to agree with your tastes. Sentai Selects seems like it might have a somewhat wide selection so I'd imagine there may not be a lot of people that will love every title (though there may still be some).

I have to admit, "Popular and Memorable" seems like a particularly odd phrasing to me. They're quite good words to try and twist to suit different meanings though, I suppose.

I'm not trying to say anything against Indian Summer specifically, by the way. I may well pick it up and give it a go at some point just out of curiousity and maybe I really will find an unexpected favourite. I'd be interested to know if anyone has seen it and what they thought, at least.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I'm pretty sure that Tsubaki, Sato and Kunogi don't appear at all during the first half of the series; only working on The Third Aerial Girls Squad, which was episode 13 onwards.

(I also really hope the series has reversible covers for Exodus and The Third Aerial Girls Squad).

I'm fairly confident that Tsubaki and Satou both appear during the interviews, which I think happened in the first half. The interesting thing being that they seemed a little different, though perhaps that's understandable in the circumstances and may have even been a deliberate point. I don't think Kunogi appears in the first half at all (though maybe I missed something).
