Dear world: Banter is not a catch all term for "talking" it is lighthearted, often amusing discussion between two parties. What Shiroi posted is not banter AF, consider yourself warned :p For appropriate use see Durial's use of the term.

As for the wider community, something "random" or "funny" you did, does not constitute banter. Going out, getting wasted and jumping in a lake is NOT banter. Thank you for your time.
Dear Sparrow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_change :p
Just because it's happening doesn't mean I have to like it.
So you'd be positively gay if words ceased to change their meaning over time?

No, that's not what I'm saying. I just think Banter is a stupid word in its new context because of the laddish culture it came out of. It's fine if a word changes its meaning, but I doubt 90% of the people who use it in the newer context even know what it means in its proper usage.

Wait, 'banter' supposedly has two meanings now? What are both these meanings? I only know of one.

THe original: lighthearted chat, often amusing between two or more parties
New: Just about bloody anything, usually some revelry of excess, it's a catch-all term for "stuff I did on a night out that I think is hilarious". Someone will detail what they did on a night out and then say "It was proper banter."
