UK Legal Anime Streaming Service launching April

How much are Americans paying to watch Tiger and Bunny on Hulu?

Zero and any anime we run via YouTube will be the same as well as when we embed elsewhere will be too :).

The goal is to have one series free per season as well too - but I guess you understand the difference in scales between a project like Hulu and having to start from scratch in the UK ^^;.

Long term as I say - we want there to be ad-supported across series for everything but until we can break out beyond just the web - that isn't really that realistic to be honest initially. There's a degree of gritting teeth about that I know - but all I'm asking for is some trust and time to develop it.

At least its my project - so you guys know me and my willingness to listen to what *you* want. So you'll be able to have your fair say on matters for sure :).

Andrew,
Finally feeling less jetlagged...^^;

I'm guessing that this first stream will be free (first few episodes at least) and the subscriber stuff will come later?

Mind you I'm more than likely to subscribe anyway, this is a brilliant idea and I think it should be supported.

Tiger & Bunny is now available for free stream, I really enjoyed. I think I encountered some blackouts but that could be the anime itself.

Same here with the blackouts...

I've got the urge to watch Mystery Men tonight. Tiger and Bunny is an interesting show in a similar vein.

Had to restart my browser to avoid jerky playback though, probably just me. Although I am surprised that there was no visible watermark on the video stream. Unless it's secured in some other, less obvious way, that will probably change.

Hmm I'll give it a try as I was planning on picking up that show anyway.

The problem here is that I barely manage to follow one full show each season with CR, and I already pay for that. My habits will change as DVDs continue to sink into rescues and series I'm not that into, so I'm very glad this kind of thing is being launched; I'm just worried that it may be a while yet before there's room in my own schedule to give it proper attention ^^

Sorry if I missed a post asking this, but is there gonna be dubbed anime aswell as subbed?
Subbed, dubs if/when made.
It's normaly a 1-2 year gap between the two.
One of the main reasons us sub only people hate on dubs is due to the huge delay in releases caused by making them.
Subbed for now - we'll preview the dub when it is available too but that is in addition to, not instead of, subs .

Character and mechanical designer for Big O is working on Tiger & Bunny, eh? Might give it a look.

IT'S SHOWTIME!

I will be willing to give AOD a chance and even support it. I like the business model they have. Also, I feel major distrust towards Crunchyroll due to their past.

Hmm, I enjoyed Tiger & Bunny far more than I expected to. It's probably wishful thinking to imagine that a certain gambler might feature in the shows being streamed, but I'll certainly be interested to see what the rest of the lineup is like.

No problems with playback this end either; my only gripe with the player is that I miss being able to pause it with the space bar - I like using my wireless keyboard as a glorified remote control.

Just watched episode 1 of Tiger & Bunny. Waiting for £10 to land in my bank account. You know it's good when I sit watching it thinking "I should steal this concept" xD

Any word on when the introductary offers will end?

Been brought up before (and I actually bumped it for good measure now there's something I can watch on it) and there is a new version of the player coming soon so hopefully...

I had no issues with the playback at all, and in some ways it was tighter than CR's. I did find all of the surrounding stuff more distracting (I don't watch fullscreen) though that would be mitigated if I paid for an account and had a big version I guess. Which I may well do if they announce more stuff.

The actual show I quite enjoyed; different to what I'd been expecting from the preview articles I'd read but still enjoyable. And they weren't kidding about all of the sponsorship space.

Tell you what, punch Toei in the teeth untill they let you show Fist of the North Star and Digimon Tamers and I will give you all the money you want.

That's my chalangé.

Was going to add "Don't forget GE999 and Captain Harlock", but hand on heart, I don't see the audience being big enough to make either viable.

I think I'm on first name terms with most of them :(

I feel the same way toward CR. My only problem is availability of when I have time to watch something if it's limited. Another reason I watch rented DVD's is so I have them to watch when I'm not busy doing other things that need doing before hand. That might take a few days, or a few weeks depending. So this streaming thing might not be convienient for me if it's a must-watch-it-now-or-lose-it type deal. Might be alright when I retire in a few years time. Good to know that whatever is streamed ends up as a DVD later though.

Actauly, just give me a photo of someone from Toei being physicality punched in the teeth and I'll get on the crazy train.

The ambivalence is killing me on this one. On one hand, I have to cross my fingers and pray that *nothing* about this makes me wish that CR were simply streaming all the shows to the UK (or to put it another way, that Japan doesn't arbitrarily decide to hamper UK streaming in ways that it doesn't "usually" hamper US streaming these days... or maybe just that we don't see the usual time lag between the stabilization of new media in the UK compared to the US), and also the fact that I *loathe* ANN and wish this wasn't associated with them at all.

On the other hand, this sounds potentially amazing, and far more than I was hoping for when I raised the question of streaming at the Expo last October. I am very excited to start using the service, and to see where it goes in the next six to twelve months.

Question for andrew, from your twitter:

To clarify too for simulcasts - we're working with the whole UK industry but we're also licensing simulcasts directly :)
I take it that means if Manga etc... had simulcasts - they would be on AoD too?

I'm excited for this.

It means exactly that - we're excited too :)!
Excellent, the main problem with the current US streaming situation is definitely the market fragmentation so this is great news.

I keep saying this to the juvenile offenders who come around selling cleaning products and they just look at me funny. :(

Nah, you wouldn't, you'd just find something else to moan about.
