The New Files OVAs are a direct sequel to the TV series, and feature characters who only appear in that continuity (the first OVA series and the movies form a separate continuity). It wouldn't make much sense to release the New Files before the TV series but, well, stranger things have happened.

I am not into Patlabor stuff at all but I think its correct what I have done. Assuming there are 2 series of ovas and 1 of them has already been released, I thought the other one was the missing one to be released.
And yes, looking at anidb patlabor diagram, its a sequel to the series. Like you said, strange things can happen eheh

So if the ova is a sequel to the tv show, surely it's pointless to license that but not the tv show. Also the show is only 47 eps, Slayers was over 100 eps and mvm had no issue releasing those.

I think the US release is scheduled for October 21st (via DVD Planet) so you should get it before or around then (just a guess though, I actually don't know when distributors get the dubs for their authoring).
